As in previous years,
It's simple: you pick the team that wins each series and in how many games they do it. Top half of contestants move on each round until we're left with a few at the end.
For the first two rounds, I will only count exactly correct series length for people who chose the right team. After that, I'll explain further!
Pick away!

Hi Slozo,
Apologies but I had to change the name of your post so it is not confused with the official 2013 PickupHockey.com Fantasy Pickem' game. Thanks! |

Sure hope i'm reverse jinxing my Canucks but for some reason i just don't feel comfortable with them this year. Was gonna pick Hawks in 4 game sweep but Backstrom is playing well and could steal the Wild a game (or more and make it a series?). |

No worries at all! After I posted, I thought of that name thing, but could not for the life of me remember the name I wasn't supposed to use . . . my apologies.

So, just to be clear on the rules folks,
1st and 2nd Round:
We each count how many correct series out of 8 we got correct, and get 1 point for each series. Additionally, we will choose series length as a tibreaker in case too many of us get the same number of series correct, and it becomes difficult to cut the number of participants in half for the next round. Only a correct series length for the correct team will count . . . we don't give prizes for wildly incorrect here!
So, if I say Vancouver in 7, and San Jose wins in 7 . . . I get no point, and no tiebreak point either.
Got it? Good.
2nd Round, we keep our first round scores and tie break points, and we add on in the 2nd round - but this time, correct series guesses get 2 pts each. Then again, after that round is done, I cut away approximately half the field (I will always tend on making that cut-off over 50%, so if it's 9 people say, I'll try to only cut off 4, keeping 5 in).
3rd Round, same thing . . . again, we keep the accrued scores from the first two rounds, and add on - but this time, correct series predictions are worth 4 points, and getting the series length correct is worth 2 bonus points.
4th and Final Round, We will probably be down to between 2 - 4 people. Correct pick will count for 6 points, and a correct series length while picking the winner will get you 5 extra bonus points. At this stage, to prevent "strategies" from taking place . . . we will make the submissions confidential, and hopefully our faithful admin will help me do that by receiving submissions and forwarding them to me.
Sounds fair folks? All the rules clear? Any glaring ommissions? Let me know before the drop of the very first puck please.

17 entries, and although I made not have made that clear for the newbies . . . once the games start, entry is closed. It'll be the top nine or ten statistically that make it through the next round, depending on how many are tied in the middle of the standings.
Sad to see that Beans and Andyhack missed this one . . .
GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!!
May the best puckhead win.

In reading Beans many postings on this site over the past few years, I completely trust his integrity.
But in making your picks today Beans (after the first game has been played in six of the eight series), could you have at least picked one team which lost their first game of the series? :)
I know the winner of the first game does not always win, but it's a definite advantage.
Again, I completely trust you Beans, and if you say these were your original picks, I will vouch for you! :) |

Golfing Beans? When i first looked at those numbers you threw out there, i figured it was the first 8 holes on the front nine! Of your local mini golf of course.
Up to Slozo, but his picks are good with me too. I don't see any shockers in there. After a road win, the noted Canuck hater, if cheating, would have prob had SJ in 5 or less!!!
Then again, with a huge prize on the line, maybe it's not fair that he's in.
Enjoy your time off Beans....... |

If I wanted in, I should have posted early. I appreciate the trust of my fellow posters I don't want Slozo to put me in. I'm the kid kicking the ball up and down the pitch while the big kids are playing soccer.
I'm just in it for funsies. |

Beans, as you know, you're only in for fun, but as an esteemed and well known poster, thanks for putting in your picks anyways.

Ouch, my late not counting entry only went .500. I never expected a Hitchcock coached STL team to fold, Ovie completely disappeared in the playoffs, and Montreal took over for Vancouver as a team more interested in press conference complaints than scoring goals.
Oh well. My failures will continue into the 2nd round.
Chi over Det in 6 LA over SJ in 5 (LA looks scary again) Pitt over OTT in 6 BOS over NYR in 5
PS, Joshua, I lost a bet to you. What were the stakes?? I think you have to give me a signature to use for the rest of the playoffs, no?? |

Dont know if I am on to round 2 as i also went 50% in round 1, but here are my picks.
Chi over Det in 5 (Chi is just too strong, Detroit is not strong enough) LA over SJ in 6 (tempted to pick San Jose as they have no pressure) OTT over Pitts in 6 (gotta do it, but I think it can be done) BOS over NYR in 6 (the Bear has woken)
Signature for Beans would be:
Ottawa, the best coached team in the NHL with the best Goalie in the NHL, will win the Cup in 2013! Chris Neil for MVP
"I now realise that the Toronto Maple Leafs, Canada's finest hockey team, is better than the Ottawa Senators - and always will be. PS - LOVE that Dion Phaneuf! " |
