Bring back the French Connection line! Bring back Dave Andreychuk. Bring back Craig Ramsay. Hey - bring back Don Luce! The Sabres can't score!

After 49 games, the Sabres have scored 92 goals. Geez - Gretzky scored the same number of goals for the Oilers in the 1981-82 season.

The Sabres GF average is 1.88 right now. Only once (unless you go back to ancient times) has a team finished an NHL season with less than a 2.00 GF average. That was Tampa Bay in 1997-98, when the expansion Lightning franchise scored a measly 151 goals, which tranlates into a 1.84 GF average.

And while the last place Sabres can't score, their defensive play (and with Ryan Miller in net) puts them in the middle of the pack in the NHL, with only half the league ahead of them in number of goals against.

Chicago has allowed more goals against than Buffalo at this point in the season. (146 compared to the Sabres with 142.)

Big difference though - the Hawks can score! Chicago has scored more than twice as many goals as the Sabres!

Who has the most points in a Sabres uniform this season? That would be Cody Hodgson, who sits in 159th place in the NHL in points (25), and 129th place in goals scored (11). (Matt Moulson doesn't count. He played part of the season with the Islanders, but even so, he's south of 100th place in points.)

And to give you another example of how bad the Sabres are playing this season, even the first year Sabres (1970-71) were better than this year's rendition with a record of 24-39-15 in 78 games played. As for the Sabres offense their first NHL season, they scored 217 goals in 78 games. But it must be noted that GF and GA stats are relative to the era in which these teams played. (I suppose like all statistics.)

Still - 92 goals scored in 49 games so far this season is abysmal! Except for the fact that Buffalo sits south of the Canadian border, this would be more noteworthy. (Or noticed.) Not picking on the Canucks (who joined the NHL season the same season as Buffalo) or the Leafs, but these three teams lead the NHL in consecutive number of years without a Cup!

Wow, crazy numbers indeed! It's amazing just how tough it is to win it these days when you think about it. You def need some luck along the way, both in games and in drafting, but as a Canucks fan, it's still really frustrating being in that position! Having made 3 finals ('82, '94, '11) is little solace and in fact, the two game 7 losses hurt the most!!!

Getting back to Buffalo though, man, imagine if Miller wasn't there or wasn't playing that well? It could be even uglier! It'll be real interesting to watch the fire sale that is inevitable in Buffalo leading up to the trade deadline!!!

Just wait until Moulson and Miller leave...
I think the only question in Buffalo is who do we want to take with our 1st overall pick? And can they handle leaving them in the minors for a year so they can also select Connor McDavid next year?....
