Do any of you have plus/minus configured in your pool? Last week I discovered that the plus/minus system here didn't quite work as I expected, and I'm curious how other people have their pools configured and what they think about how the plus/minus system works.

I had my pool configured with a 1 in the plus field and a 0 in the minus field for defensemen. I had expected that this configuration would result in, at the end of the year, when, say i had a D that finishes the season +10 would be worth 10 points, and a D that finishes -10 would be worth 0 (i.e. it would result in no negative point values for D players). However, the actual calculation is more complicated.

How it actually works is this:
say in game 1 a player is +2, then in game 2 the player is -2, then in game 3 +2. in nhl.com stats they show as +2, but that is worth 4 points for plus/minus points when you configure it with a 1/0 (1 for plus 0 for minus)

I ended up changing my pool to have a 1 in the minus field as well, and we are manually calculating if we have a player who is negative for plus/minus.

I guess my question is does anyone out there actually use a plus/minus config that is anything other than a 1 in both the plus and minus columns, and does anyone actually want the behavior I described (in the 1/0 point situation)? I had a long chat with the admins and they said there are people out there who have configured their pools this way, but I don't really understand how a pool configured that way would work. you could end up with 2 players at the end of the year both finish +40 in plus/minus but in reality be worth a completely different amount of points, and it would be very difficult to verify if there are any calculation errors.

thanks for your comments.
