It'll be a close race between Stastny and Malkin this year. I have somebody to add to the list, Anze kopitar. He may surprise people.

I don't think anybody will vote for him though, Malkin and Stastny will dominate!

In the future I think that Kopitar will become a good team leader. He has everything you need in a captain except the experience. |

Stastny will be the popular vote, so with that said, I'm going with Kopitar. All indications point to him being a very good player for a long, long time. And from what I've heard, he will be a captain of a team someday. Statsny is a very good player, but reminds me more of Tanguay than Iginla, if you know what I mean. |

Ryane Clowe makes the list, but not guys like Vlasic, Radulov, Zajac, etc? Anyways, I'd say it's a close call between Malkin, Stastny and Kopitar, but a few other people here, I voted for Kopitar. Slightly less offensive potential, but brings a much better defensive game, and is apparently a great leader with captain potential. |

Would have included all of them, but there wasn't room for all. That is why there is an "other" column. |

Radulov? He's the new Zherdev. Man, when will people learn not to trust Russian hockey hype? All flash, no substance.
In Malkin's defense, though...he is playing very well lately. The big guy has impressed me, and it takes a lot for a Russian hockey player to do that. |

Malkin is simply sensational. The guy is overshadowed by Crosby, but 85 points in a rookie campaign is nothing short of amazing. When you play alongside the biggest 1st round pick of the decade, for whom they created a whole new system, and who got 102 pts in his rookie season... fine, you don't get as much attention. But Malkin will be one of the Russian greats, mark my words.

I just realized there are two calder trophy winners on the same line in Pittsburgh. That about sums up the team. If they can lock these guys up long term, I see them as a powerhouse.

And they also have a Calder candidate in Jordan Stall.
But to the point I think Anze Kopitar. He has the best size for a centerman. He is on the ice for almost every penalty kill. Did I mention his size? Just an all around complete player and he's the one who will bring LA back to a contender.

Jordan Staal will not win it. Kane, Toews, Cogliano, Kopitar, Johnson, all of 'em... Staal might one day be better, not for now though.
