Complicated, but here's my take....

If you are in the Toronto organization, you're perogative is not what is best in the long run, it is what will get the local media and Leaf Nation off your azz as quickly as possible. Therefore, you make decisions based on short term fear, rather than long-term progress. (Ex - we need a better goalie - let's trade Tuukaa Rask who may become a superstar....for Raycroft. Or let's sign Toskala....while Justin Pogge rots in the minors, even though he may be a superstar down the road).

The Leafs have no plan. When have they ever had a plan?

The Leafs are the hockey equivalent of Doritos, when teams like the Devils or the Red Wings are like a spinach salad. The Doritos taste good right now, and you can give them to your guests and they'll be happy for a few minutes, but they'll make you fat and give you gas. Meanwhile, the spinach salad might not make you happy today, but it makes you healthier in the long run, and you'll be happy down the road.

Ha Ha love the last paragraph Fly!!

You said it bang on. They have no plan at all. I love the Leafs but i get so frustrated with some of the moves they make. They need to clean out the whole front office, get a new owner and start a 5-10 year plan. I could care less if they are last for a few years. That is better than being around 20th all the time. They are becoming the Leafs of the 80's now.

The problem with the Leafs organization is a mix of what Fly said, and the fans.

In any other city, if a team is as horrible as the Leafs, the fans would simply stop showing up, except for the NYR, who have similar problems as the Leafs. In Toronto, the leafs have sold out every game since god knows when, whether they reach the Eastern Conference finals, or the finish out of the playoffs.

The Leafs brass doesn’t need to have any sort of plan, because they know that no matter what they do, there will be a butt in every seat at the ACC.

Compare this to other Toronto franchises. The Jays stunk in the mid to late 90’s and people stopped attending games, it forced them to improve their team. Now that they’re better, people are beginning to show up again. The Raptors are getting better, and it shows in their attendance. The Argos? Don’t even get me started on them, they can win the Grey Cup and only half the stadium will be full.

The Leafs are more concerned with the bottom line than they are with winning a championship.

I urge Leafs fans to stop making excuses for your team, and hit them where it’ll hurt the most, in their pockets. If they stop selling out, they’ll be forced to improve their on-ice product, and contend.

The problem with the "stop going" philosophy when discussing the Leafs is that they ARE in a different situation than say, the Islanders (just a random example).

I'm not a Leaf fan, but I want to see them play a game in Toronto some day. They're an institution, like Tim Horton's coffee and Stompin' Tom Connors. There are a few franchises in the various sports where a guy can legitimately argue that the team is bigger than the game. The New York Yankees. The Dallas Cowboys or Green Bay Packers. The Boston Celtics.

People would go out to see them play (me included) if they were thirty games below .500. Same with the Habs.

Trust me, you're not missing out on much by not going to a Leafs game. I've been to a few, and other than the Leafs vs. Pens playoff game I went to, it's the dullest crowd ever.

I went to the Leafs vs. Islanders last year and left midway through the 2nd, because I would have had more fun watching the game at home on TV. Suits fill 70% of the stadium. P.S. I had free tickets, probably wouldn't have left if I had paid for them, but with that in mind, I would probably never pay to see the leafs.

In comparison I went to Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals last year in Detroit. The stadium wasn't 100% full, but the atmosphere was amazing.

I also went to a game in Philly last year, and the crowd was amazing.

It's kind of weird, Toronto fans are pretty loyal and loud otherwise, but it doesn't show during a game. I've been to raptors games where you can barely hear the person next to you, so it can't be the stadiums acoustics.

Besides the novelty of seeing a game in Toronto I'd say save your $75 and go watch a Sabres game instead.

I am a Leafs fan , and if someone does not want their tickets I would take them off their hands no problem.

Do not forget there are two teams on the ice, and you may get a chance to see Crosby, or Ovechkin etc.

This is one of the many problems in Toronto, you can try to drive the fan base away, but there are many inline eating Doritos ready to spend their hard earned money.

I don't necessarily agree with everything I say.

I find it's cheaper, and just as entertaining, to stay at home and boo my cat as he licks himself.

The Oil WILL make the playoffs.

I've only watched NHL games in two arenas, Calgary and Edmonton. Edmonton generally has a better atmosphere.

That is a sad reality of modern hockey, that so many corporate people are in the seats instead of real fans.

As a Sakatchewan guy, it's especially tough. I'd nearly kill to watch NHL games live, and then the other night I flip on Pittsburgh/New Jersey game being played in Newark and it's more than half empty on the lower level. If those jerks only knew how lucky they were having a team in their city. Okay, maybe the Devils are as boring as hell but wouldn't you at least go out and watch Sid, Malkin, etc?

There is no justice in this world sometimes.

As I like to say, Leafs don't do much except get blown around and crushed for most of the year, then they fall and die at the end of the year. And then they repeat the cycle next year...

THEY AREN'T WINNING THE CUP THIS YEAR OR IN THE NEXT 15 YEARS EVEN SO JUST GIVE UP ON IT ALREADY AND MOVE ON TO ANOTHER TOPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After playing in the NHL, it's hard to watch hockey games.

The reason behind the Leafs always selling out regardless of how bad a team they are is simply that Canadians are very big hockey fans and because of the huge population base in Metro Toronto if one person was to give up their seat there would be a zillion people waiting behind to take their place. Toronto could easily accomodate two professional teams and both would no doubt sell out. The difference between Toronto and the New York market for instance is that here we all love our hockey. The teams in all the Canadian demographics would also stay sold out if the population bases were as large as the one in Southern Ontario. And by the way, although the Leafs have not won the cup since 1967 they have had some good clubs over those cupless years. Some of you fellas seem to exagerate a little and that is putting it mildly........Antroman........
