A lot of people tend to just go with Crosby because he won last years scoring race, but really who do you like better? I feel Thornton is more respectable and more confident player (even though they are both confident players) Thornton is also a more developed player and knows how to handle himself in tight situations even though he has a temper. I just feel Thornton is more well liked than Crosby by people interested in hockey pre-lockout

i meant people who watched hockey before the lock out, not focusing on hockey before the lock out

Crosby, taking nothing away from Thornton. But instead of comparing Thornton and Crosby now, let's look at their first few seasons to see who is likely to be the better player when all is said and done:

Thornton:
GP Goals Assists Points
1997-98 Boston Bruins 55 3 4 7
1998-99 Boston Bruins 81 16 25 41
1999-00 Boston Bruins 81 23 37 60

Crosby:

2005-06 Penguins 81 39 63 102
2006-07 Penguins 79 36 84 120
2007-08 Penguins 17 9 16 25

Sid is currently on pace to score 120 points again this year.

When you look at it this way, there is no comparison as to how much better Crosby has been early in his career. Is he better now, regardless of stats? Yeah, I think that is true, too.

Do I ever dislike Crosby its always Crosby this and Crosby that, if he was out of the spotlight for like 10 seconds everyone could recognize that there are other players in the league who are equally as good or better then the whinny Crosby I hope anyone and i mean anyone beats him for total points this year, weather it be Thorton, Ovechkin, Lecalvier, St.Louis, Nash, Kane, Zetterberg, just anyone so i don't see Crosby all over the hockey news again. please let Pittsburgh finish last or close to last so we don't have to hear about him anymore, Hope Joe does good this year and i sure hope he takes the title....

Fly I am not sure if you are aware of this but Joe Thornton did not get the ice time like Crosby until his third season. His first two seasons were less than 20 min / game.

Thornton Ice time average / game
1st season
8 min Total Ice Time
7 min regular strength
.8 min power play
.2 min short handed
2nd season
15.3 min Total Ice Time
12.5 min RS
2.6 min PP
.2 min SH

Crosby
1st season
20.1 min Total Ice Time
13.8 min regular strength
5.7 min power play
.6 min short handed
2nd season
20.5 min Total Ice Time
14.5 min RS
5.4 min PP
.6 min SH

This makes a huge difference when comparing stats.

When you are not playing 20 min a game usually indicates that you are also not on the first line...

I don't necessarily agree with everything I say.
