I don't watch a whole lot of Flyer games since Big E. left, but I've seen two of their games in the past two weeks, because I never miss a Pens game, and they've played each other twice in that time frame.

I have to say, I am super-impressed with Mike Richards. He scores goals, make nice passes, wins draws, kills penalties and plays the point on the power play. He's also assistant captain already, so he obviously has leaderships skills.

A couple of years ago, all the talk (okay, most of the talk) regarding the Flyer youth revolved around Jeff Carter. He's okay, but I think Mike Richards might even emerge as a HHOF-type guy, especially now that he has become more offensive. I know that's very premature, but the league needs another Trottier/Messier type guy, and he might fit the bill.

Thoughts?

I tihnk mike richard is the total package, how you could you not from the season he is having right now? I think it would be better for him if he had a season with Drury, and we must remember that Mike Richards is not play off proven just yet

That's a very premature assumption at this time. He had only 34 points last year in 79 games. He's off to a good start this year, and yes he is a fairly well rounded player. But i'd not talk HHOF for him just yet. Decent rookie season, decent start this season. But, what do we really know yet?

I admitted it was premature. I'm not reserving his name at the 2025 banquet just yet. What I'm saying is that he fits a mould that is quite rare - the ultimate complete player. It's like finding a blood diamond, or a complete T-Rex skeleton in your backyard. Those types of guys are rare birds. Okay, those are weird analogies, but give me a break, okay?

Richards did have a poor year last year, but that old sophmore jinx has gotten more than just a couple of guys (just ask Jordan Staal about the second year blues).

I know Richards was highly touted by guys like Pierre Maguire, but I didn't really see it until now. Now I'm thinking Mr. Monster was onto something.

I agree entirely. I also have not seen him play almost at all until recently and he does everything -really well.

We shall see how much better he gets but right now -i see him becoming great.

remember fly, you saw 2 games. I think this is VERY, VERY Premature. I don't think he will be HHOF material.

Fair enough, I only saw a couple of games. But he's all over the ice. Plays every situation, and holy crap is he good on faceoffs. he owned Sid on the faceoffs.

Of course it's premature, but sometimes you get a feeling about a guy.

That's why I am an NHL scout.

Okay, that's why I should be an NHL scout, if someone was smart enough to hire me.

Bob Clarke said that Mike Richards is a better player than he was. That's a pretty big compliment. And who cares if he got 34 points in 79 games?? The thing the Clarke said (and I agree with) is that Mike Richards has the ability to go out and do whatever the teams needs to win the game. Score a goal, kill a penalty, block shots, you name it, the kid can do it. The think that may get him into the elite is that not only does he have the ability, he had the desire to do what ever it takes to win.

I agree that Fly is a little premature with his HHOF comments, but I can see his point. That's the kind of guy that does make the Hall.

It's a long time to go, but Richards does have the tools to get there.

Wayne or Bobby?? How about both!!!

After I started this thread, I went and watched the end of the Pittsburgh/Philly game, and with only a few seconds left, the Pens pulled Fleury. Richards got the puck, crossed the red line, had an open net, but passed it off to Scott Hartnell. Hartnell shot it in for his first goal of the year.

Not a huge deal, lots of guys show class like that, but when you realize that he did it because Hartnell has been struggling bigtime offensively, and Richards is thinking that a goal, any goal, might get Hartnell some confidence back, you know what a great leader he has the potential to be.

I can't say how impressed I am with this kid.

I watched a couple of Flyer games recently, and also saw the Flyers on NHL on the Fly. It shows the game live and Richards was grea.

There is a site that is trying to get him to the All Star Game. It is similar to the Rory Fizpatrick thing of last year. I would love to see Richards get in. Here is the site and remember to vote

Richards isn't dirty like Bobby Clarke, and I think he might end up better offensively (Bobby Clarke's own words).

Toews is the new Trottier? And people say I'm jumping the gun saying Sidney is the Next One. Comparing Toews to Trottier is WAAYYYY more a jump. Does Toews have Trot's grit? I haven't seen that yet.

I only got to watch the first period of the Black Hawks-Oilers game and I must say I was quite impressed with Toews. He was throwing his weight around quite a bit just in that first period. I also watched Kane and he was very good too, very patient on the boards when breaking out. And Peter Mueller from Phoenix looked really good too. He was working the boards down low very well.

But Fly, I think Toews has quite a bit of grit. Unfortunately I don't know what Brian Trottier's grit was.

How many games have you seen Toews play Fly?

This is pretty. Just thought I'd share.

3. He was good in one of them, very good to great in the others. He's a terrific young talent who is forever on my "nice" list for his World Junior performance last year. But calling him Trottier already? Slow down guys.

Fly, no disrespect but I don't think after watching 3 games of him you can really have an opinion. Same thing with Carey Price and Pascal Leclaire. It's way too early for anybody to tell if toews is the next Trottier or not, it maybe even too early to tell with Richards.

I'm actually starting to see Richards turn into a Bobby Clarke.

Ellis or Mason?
