Poll Question:
If you had to choose which defenseman you want on your team out of these players, who would it be?
- Don't just base it on points. Try to pick on toughness, points, defensive skill, future of the player, etc.

I know a good chunk of people are going to take Lidstrom. And I understand that. But I took Chara. He can produce some points and he's tough. You are getting a two in one deal. You get your tough guy and a point scoring defenseman.
Perhaps I am biased, him being my current favorite Defensemen after Ray Bourque. :) heh.

I think this is a no brainer. Phaneuf is very young yet very mature. He has the scoring touch, plus the toughness and grit that you need in your defence. When he's on the ice the other players need to know where he is or their game could quickly come to an end. Phaneuf is the future of D in the league. |

Phaneuf is a complete package at a very young age, he will have a long, successful career, probably in comparisn to Stevens, Leetch, Housley...I am sure u get my piont. He is future HOF material. Just B/C of his age you would have to take him. There is another great YOUNG defencemen that just took a little longer to come around but is getting huge ice time and putting up #'s. Paul Ranger for Tampabay should be on that list, getting 25-26 minutes a night, 23 years old, 13 points this season and a long career to go. |

Your forgot Andrei Markov. Probably the most underestimated defensman in the league today. |

I had Paul Ranger in mind for the list. But, it was not really based on young D's, just more of good d-men that you'd take for your team.
But, Ranger was going to have Carle's spot.

Phaneuf MAY be the best defenseman on there today...but he surely will be for the next ten years.
Easy pick.
Gonchar should not be on the list. I wouldn't take him if he offered to play for free. |

Phanuef for sure, hes got a great shot on the point and hits like nobody else. I think his style of play is great for any team,.although chris pronger is also a franchise d-man he has proven that year after year |

Phaneuf, hes got the age, the shot, hitting power, sees the ice, and is solid in his own zone, I'd choose Phaneuf |

I got it down to Chara or Pronger. I think I will take Chara as he adds something that Pronger doesn't seem to have as much of and that is toughness and meaness. Chara is nasty and mean and if are crazy enough to piss him off he will destroy you. I just think this guy has it all except for Pronger's Stanley Cup rings. |

It's not like it'sx Chara's fault the sens sucked in playoffs. He still has playoff experience. What wiuld make me take Chara is because of his size and strength.
