When are the Bruins going to accept that this guy is the team MVP and stop wasting money on "starting goalies"...Have you seen this guy in action this year? 94.1 save % and an average under 2...WOW!! He usually gets well over 30 shots a game!!! He's a great guy too, and I guarantee all the boys in the room love him. I just wish the coaches/ management in Boston would believe in this guy, and let him do his thing. I think it's b/c his "style" is as weird as they come. But hey, that's what they said about Hasek in the early 90's and I think he accomplished something, eh? All Dom needed was a team that trusted him. I hope Boston does the same some day.
Sugar Ray over Hasek any day!

I agree, why would they waste all that money on Fernandez. Raask has now played a couple games too. I would keep Thomas in net for this season and maybe we can talk Raask next year.

personally, i REALLY like Tim Thomas too. He seems to have A LOT of heart and you always see him on the highlight reels. Not because he's a showoff but because he will do anything to stop the puck. |

Mixed feelings on this question. I really like Thomas too (he is a great story actually) and his unusual style adds an extra fun element for viewers.
BUT, from what I saw last year anyway, I got the feeling that, over the long haul, he is not going to be a guy who is going to take the team too far. Now the Bruins are likely not going too far this year anyway, and maybe that's a key point here. With a potentially good young goalie there already, it may have been wiser not to sign any goalie last summer.
It depends on your view towards this year. If you felt last summer that the Bs actually had a chance to make the playoffs this year then perhaps signing someone then was the right move tactically (my guess is that the Fernandez move was based on the same feeling I have on Thomas over the long haul). Personally, I don't think Fernandez is the answer, but I can understand the thinking of needing someone.
Having said that, I think the premise that the Bruins have a chance this year was probably the wrong starting position for management (I hope I am wrong though!). They should have just accepted that this year could be another write-off and rode the waves with Thomas and taken their chances on Rusk coming into his own in the next couple of years.
Don't get me wrong. I agree that Thomas is playing GREAT this year. I hope he can keep it up. I have my doubts though. Also, just a side note but I think the Bruins made a good move getting Julien. Aside from thinking he is a good coach, I also feel more comfortable with his face behind the bench, as he doesn't resemble a notorious character from last century (if you know what I mean).
