Hey guys. I thought this would be a really fun game. When the playoffs start (or maybe we can take a vote and add a twist by doing the draft before we know definitely who makes it to the post season) we should have a hockey pool incorporating all members of the forum who wish to participate. You guys will help me find an appropriate maximum players.
We should pick 3 centers, 3 left wing, 3 right wing, 6 d men, 2 goalies, and 1 IR. Of course, the farther your player goes the more points you likely to amass which is a big part of the decision.
I would say keep it simple in order to allow everyone to join: 1 pt goal / assist of any kind, 2 points goalie win of any kind, 1 point goalie OT loss, and 5 additional points for a shutout.
Tell me what you think and if you are interested.

I like the IR idea. And I like keeping the stats basic like if we incorporate +/- it could get too complicated. Also will we be able to do trades? and How will the draft order be determined?

Well us 13 (your 13 right?) Im sure would be the bottom dwellers in that category. So I trust everyone on this forum not to cheat us over and you or whoever wants for that matter write names on popsicle sticks and draw them out and that'll be the draft order. Or atleast something along those lines.

Here's my only advise. Keep it simple. The more complex and more thing you add into it, the more difficult it becomes to manage and understand.
I would be interested if it was a straight up pool. Goals, assists, maybe PIM. Wins and Shut outs for goalies.
Also, I think you have to wait to know everyone who is going to be in the playoffs before you draft. I also think you can't really draft as much as set a number of players and let people pick who they want.
Just my take. If it's a draft style, done before we know who is in or out, and to complex, I'm out.

My preferences include a draft. And should we include PIMs, I would like to see a specific position (i.e. enforcer) slot.
The rest I am flexible on. The point is to get a lot of people involved

No, no, no, no. Don't pass this off to me. Your idea, you run with it. I was just giving you my opinion.
I don't want to run this. Not even sure if I want to get in on it.

I suggest you use a Random Number Generator online to produce the draft picks, of order.
You can assign all players a number, IE 1thru 10, if 10 players. Then randomize those numbers to our assigned numbers. :)

Also, I think five is too much for a shutout. 3 sounds better. I would also like to get started on this within a week. Thanks. |

I would suggest this.
Once the Playoffs are set, each person who wants to be involved must submit their team to Alex 24 hours before the first playoff game starts.
The team is comprised of 20 players. 12 Forwards 6 Defense 2 Goalies
Points are awarded for all goals and assists. 2 Points for a goalie win and 3 addition points for a shutout.
Nice, simple, to the point.

I'm not saying no draft, I'm just saying that with the amount of time between the end of the season and playoffs, organizing a draft might be more than challenging.
For the record, if it's a draft, I am out. I just don't have the time.

Make goals worth more than assists. I always felt that goals should be given more weight than assists, as only one guy can get a goal, but two people can get assists. In my pool goals are worth 1.5 and assists are just 1. So in other words 2 assists are better than one goal, but 1 goal is still better than just one assist.
There's my two cents. |

You realize to make a 20 member team in a draft, assuming you found 10 participants, with your idea, each participant would have to make a list of at least 200 players? Possible, but vary unlikely that each would invest the time for that kinda thing.
The Oil WILL make the playoffs. |

Sorry Alex, I say no good. OILINONTARIO is right, that would take a list of 200+ players.
For the sake of time, I would say that everyone just picks their team. If I want Heatley and everyone else does as well, then so be it. It's actually just a difficult to pick that way as it is to draft. If Ottawa is a hot team (for example) then it's likely that most people would take Alfie, Heatley, and Spezza so they cancel each other out. It's the dark horse player who has a hell of a playoff (Pisani two years ago) or a dark horse team (the Oilers two years ago) are the one's who win the pool.
Again, I don't really care. I'm not saying you shouldn't do a draft. Just giving my opinion and letting you know I am out if it is a draft.

I would be glad to make up a Box selection pool, I am making one up with my friends so I could use the same one if you like...
The draft does take a while. Some members may remember the G.O.A.T. draft last year. It was a lot of fun. We had 10 members, selected 12 Forwards, 6 Defence, and 2 goalies. The draft started on 03/03/07, and ended on 03/23/07...20 days, the playoffs would be in the second round by then...

I think it was 2 years ago. When I was newbie to the forums. That they tried the draft idea for the playoffs. Bablabloushka was very busy for that month. I'll be in it if it is a box selection. |

Hey Alex instead of having the 3 center, 3 left wingers, 3 right wingers and 1 IR. Just have like 9 forwards of any kind and 3 defense, 2 goalies and 1IR |
