To date Mike Green of Washington is leading all NHL defensemen in goals.. (14) I have watched a few Washington games this year and he has excited me just as much as Ovechkin. I think he is just what the NHL needs: A Good Young, very offensive defensman. I only wish that I had known about him earllier so I could say that I saw him play junior, and play in the AHL and already know about his great talent. Did any of you guys have an eye on him coming into the year? Does anybody think he will keep it up for the rest of the year and for years to come?

There's a couple games I've watched and he is a very slick skater. He has potential. I don't know for sure though since I've seen about two Washington games. |

I think that Mike Green has to be treated just like any other rookie. It could be a shot in the pants, or it could be the making of the next great offensive defenceman.
Time will only tell.
P.S. There's nothing wrong with this topic.

Leading defencemen in goals, way up there in points, and with all the ice time and playing for a sub .500 team, he's only a -2. Those stats don't lie, he's obviously having a monster year so far.
But other than that, I can't say much, as I've hardly seen him - he plays in Washington, for crissakes! So - tell us, shinny - how does he look? For me, you have to look at his skating (backwards especially), pass percentage, backchecking, etc. How does he rate as a young d-man?

Honestly slozo, I've only watched about three of his games. He does the little things well. He plays good defensively - isn't afraid of blocking shots, taking/giving a hit - he is great at starting up and finishing plays. He rushes the puck well and looks good on the powerplay. I think it would be a mistake for Washington not to extend his contract another 5 years. For the things you mentioned, I'm going to try and catch the next washington game and watch for those things. As a young d-man I would put him right there with Carle(perhaps the Carle of last year), Whitney, heck, maybe even Phaneuf! |

I've seen the guy play a few times, he's not bad. I've watched about 15 of Washington's games this season and I must say, he stands out in my mind. Any player, never mind defenseman, that can get 14 goals before the all-star break, isn't too shabby.
Ellis or Mason?
