Yes he should be suspended. I think one of the flyers did the same thing without the elbow and got suspended.

Ellis or Mason?

He was suspended without pay for 1 game.

I saw the hit on Sportsnet news at 6:00 pm EST.

I think he should of had more, but it is his first offence...

Of coarse you know that this means war!

There was malicious intent and he missed the better part of that game because of the game misconduct, so I think 1 game is about right for a first time offender. It's not right to compare him to regular offenders like Simon though . . .

My thoughts exactly, other than the malicious intent. Kovalchuk is selfish. How does taht benefit him in this case? Would the goal scorer in the NHL care so much about winning that he would knock out a player in a harmless first period play and risk missing the rest of the game, thus not only harming his team's chances to lose, but also lose a chance to get a goal or two?

I think he was aware of the time (about a minute) and was trying to just finish the period in a tie. He wanted to get the puck out quick. Those are my thoughts on the play.

I personally think it was a gutless act. Did you see him run away as soon as he elbowed him from behind. A very dirty play in my mind.

It was pretty bad in my opinion. Roszival had his back turned completely and it looked like (from the clip nash provided) that he left his feet before making contact. It's not like Roszival turned his back to him at the last second, it was a pre-meditated and vicious play. To me that was textbook boarding/hitting from behind. A game suspension seems perfect though (for a first timer).

The Hartnell hit was ugly too! wow!

How about the hit on Ponikarovsky in Toronto last night. Two minutes for boarding? It was a blatant two handed cross check from behind and Poni is gone for six weeks with a shouder separation. Oh well, it's only a Leaf, who cares? Tonight again Antropov is cross checked into the boards by Erskine and Antro almost breaks his neck. The guy gets two minutes. How can these refs detect an almost invisible tap on the pants and give out two minutes and give both those absolutely ruthless infractions two minutes as well. Oh well, it's only the Leafs whinning again, who cares? The point is that both of those infractions were just as bad as the Kovulchuk hit and deserve at least the same suspension. I have viewed them all a few times now. I also see that clown Kostitsyn in Montreal is still playing dirty as well. He tried to take a guy's knees out the other night but the guy just manged to side step him even though he still tripped over the back of the idiots skates.

You want to know why the refs aren't calling those penalty's. Because they are just as annoyed as I am of hearing about the god damn Leafs!!!

If I'm not mistaken this is about Kovalchuk, who plays for Atlanta. Why does every topic now have to have Toronto involved!?

Because I'm pissed ok. The point was that Kovulchuk got a game for hitting that guy from behind and Pemminger, or whatever his name is, hit Ponikarovsky last night in Toronto exactly the same way and got a two minute penalty for boarding and played against us tonight. Poni has a separated shoulder and is out six weeks. That's the frickin' point. It started with frickin' Downie at the start of the year. If it's a Leaf that gets poleaxed nothing frinkin' well happens. I can explain them all in detail if you like. I am not the only one talking about this in our area. Bloody Maurice is afraid of Betthead and talks in circles on the subject.
