In Montreal there is an arrest warrant out on hockey hall of famer Guy Lafleur. Something about failure to report to court about his sons case and lies he told police!!

Hey Pasty, do you have a hyperlink to a story to substantiate this?

This was all I have found so far. Nothing about an arrest warrant yet.

What??? Here comes this arguement again.

How does this disgrace the game or the Habs?? He has nothing to do with the Habs anymore. He is not part of their organization or does he represent them or the NHL in anyway. He is a FORMER player. He runs a helicopter rental company in Tampa Bay for God sakes. How are his action of the past year related to hockey in any way, shape, or form??

Disgrace to himself, possibly. We don't even know that yet as he will have his day in court.

Disgrace to the game and the Habs?? I don't see that at all.

How is it a disgrace to his family when he is protecting his family?

Well I can see the connection and it is obvious Beans...but I agree that it should not be connected.

Although I don't know the details very well, to me it is a father protecting a beloved son. I think that most fathers on the planet would do the same if they felt that no harm could come from it and that ultimately they would sacrifice themselves to protect their children. Good for Guy!

One of the greatest Habs to play the game now has some sex scandal that he allegedly supported associated with him.

The Habs, who made a trademark and franchise player out of the Flower, now have to live with the fact that anybody who thinks of the Habs, and in turn thinks of him, will in turn think of the issue.

Now, I am not saying it is terrible. But for a legacy in the hockey world, anything that ruins the squeaky clean image you work so hard to buid up is demorazlizing, at least as a fan.

Alex,

You're pretty opinionated for a thirteen year old and I respect that.

BUT you may want to seriously rethink one or two things in your posts above and make use of that magical "Edit" function. Why? Well, you have just, on the basis of something just off the press, in effect tried, and hung Guy Lafleur. Edit - though I do give you some credit for saying "allegedly"

Moreover, even if he did do something wrong, you are way over-stating both the wrongdoing and the effect of the wrongdoing, without taking into account some of the Guest's very valid points about a father doing things out of love for his son.

And Beans - other than blowing off Alex's not so well thought out comment, in my view you don't even have to get too much into your "disgrace" argument here. This is SOOOOOOOO different from any of the other stuff we have talked about in that other thread (Rose, O.J. and those other unsavoury examples we mentioned) and therefore, regardless of how you want to classify the "disgrace" here, there are other factors to cause us to treat, and react to, this case very differently from those other cases, no matter where you come down on them.

And, back to Alex, COME ON! The Habs didn't make a franchise player out of the Flower! Even if one argues that they helped in his progression to stardom, still, overall the Hab organization and Hab fans FOREVER owe Guy loads and loads AND LOADS of thanks for his performance in the 1970s. And this shouldn't change that legacy.

Alex, I like your passion, but that post of yours ranks up there as one of the more objectionable posts I have seen in my time here.

Hey Guys, it is not like he murdered his wfe and friend (OJ) or got caught backing dog fights, or was doing illegal drugs like Spinner Spencer or some other serious crime? He only told a little white lie to protect his son and somebody down in Quebec wants to make a name for themselves or grab a little spotlight. It is not that serious......Period!!!!

Of course I agree with the fact that it is not by any means a big profile case. We may never hear of it again.

I just feel tainted as a club to see one of the greats involved in such a thing. Look at I think it is Beliveau, touring the world to promote peace, and Dryden becoming a politican, and the Flower unfortunately having his name associated with this...

I guess you might have to be a fan to feel the passion

Even others associate him with it, which only time will tell. YOU don't have to. And I guess in the end, that's all that counts for you.

Alex, the world isn't perfect. Things like this happen all the time. Why would you presume hockey players are immune to family problems.
If you choose to let something someone does reflect on anything else but that person, that's up to you. That's pretty small minded in my opinion.

Hey Alex, I can relate to your feelings toward your team and the disappointment with having one of their most storied members in a spot of trouble but it is not that serious really. Putting out an arrest warrant for someone with the personna of Guy Lafleur was really very much over the top and totally unnecessary to say the least. This is just so much "small potatos" as the saying goes. You will hear more regarding this thing just because Lafleur is who he is. It will pass and I'm sure no one will think any less of him or his great accomplishments. Don't fret it Alex.

i think the big thing people are missing here is the articles are made to shock people,,, first off i don't know if there is anyone else here who works in law enforcement,, you can have an arrest warrent out on you for speeding tickets,, as antroman says this one is over the top because the legal reasons you would put a warrent out on Guy are the following,, they have failed to present themselvews to their court date or hearing....(didn't happen) if he was a flight risk,,, or if he could easily hide in public. also this warrent is just to insure that he himself goes to his court date/hearing and they're not gonna show up at his house with handcuffs and bring him cops style,,,, the warrent may never actually be legally exacuted

This is what happens when you "swear to tell the truth the whole truth, and nothing but the truth"

If there is information that surfaces that you perjured yourself, whether you are protecting you family or not you have to pay the consequences...

What does this have to do with hockey? Nothing, it is a family issue that the media will bring out into the news, because he is a famous retired hockey player...

How many other people in North America had the same warrant put out on them for the same reason this week? I bet that there were hundreds in the US alone, but none of them make the news...

Champions take chances, and pressure is a privilege.
