Ok I have been thinking of which sites are valuable for us forum members in our discussions. So I devised a short list of sites that I have used when gathering information for an online hockey spar here at www.pickuphockey.com (the greatest free hockey pool site on the planet!) I thought I'd share it and also invite you to post your valuable resource sites. Please make a note or two on why it is a good site and what resources can be found there.
Note: NO SPAM!!! It will be removed!
www.nhl.com (yes the mothership) www.nhlpa.com (the NHL Players Association web site - I use it to look up player's salaries) www.hhof.com (this is a gem! past player stats, records, awards, great history!) www.hockeydb.com (past player stats - beware of the pop up ads!)
  What do you use?

although not specific to hockey I find www.wikipedia.com very quick, informative and easy to use. Plus thanks to the site I just found out that Paul Coffey preferred his skates to fit as tightly as possible, and wore two sizes smaller than his shoes. They were tied with two sets of laces, one laced from the bottom to half way up, and the other from the halfway point to the top. The skates were so tight that rather than untying them trainers cut the laces to remove his skates after every game.
Now where else can you find bull s*** like that? |

This has to be the best site for stats I've seen. Snoop around it for awhile. There is a ton of info here.

These sites by Pucknuts, and leigh's sites just about cover all the web sites I go to. Pucknuts even hits a couple that are my private faves (nhlnumbers for example)
However, I have a couple other resources that are not websites: I leave Home Ice (XM 204) on all the time, and have been subscribing to The Hockey News for eons. These are just a couple good alternate, non-web-based resources for either up-to-the-minute, or, behind the scenes info.
Another interesting way to put things into historical perspective is to read old books about the league. It will really surprise you to find out that a lot of the problems and, subsequently, the efforts, on the part of the league have been going on a LOT longer than any of us realize. If anyone cares for a few examples, just ask....I could go on ad nauseam!
Oh, and if you think you know triv...try this:

                       Some good sites.
http://www.stats.hockeyanalysis.com/- Stats for the hockey buff of today's age. These are not your typical set of stats on NHL.com however. Takeaways, giveaways, hits. All there. Ever wonder how your team fares against the top teams? Middle teams? Bottom teams? All here. Great site that gives you stats not normally known.
http://www.hockeybuzz.com - Great site with articles by people who write for the team. Gives you insight to teams in the NHL you don't know well. Covers most NHL teams.
http://www.spectorshockey.com - The best site for hockey rumors. |
