Poll Question:
Last nights Vancouver VS. Chicago went to a shootout. Ryan Shannon scored the winner spinning around the goalie, which wasnt a bad move. but a lot of poeple are saying that Nikolai was interfered with so he couldnt make the save. do you think he was interfered?
Here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evl59relDZs
ps. Khabibulin punches Ryan in the head after

Its pretty close but Shannon was not in the crease and he already had momentum going across the net. Khabibulin moved out towards Shannon and got caught up with him, Shannon had no control over how Khabibulin positioned himself. Granted there was contact but it was because of Khabibulin reaching and going for a poke check. |

Here's the thing. Shannon slipped. If he wouldn't have slid into the goalie, he would have scored anyway.
Arguement based on the rule?? Yes, the goalie was interfered with. However, it wouldn't have mattered. |

Great goal, this is the type of imagination that should be what the shootout is about.
Completely legal - it was reviewed, and agreed that it was completely legal. Case closed.
Nikolai was just frustrated at the embarassment. |

If he pulls off the move without running into the goalie...then yes, it should count. But as Shannon was spinning around, he almost took the goalie out of the play (you could see Khabibulin trying to reach back to make the save) and that should be a no goal.
Just look at the goal last night that they took away from Detroit because Holmstrom was just standing there. Yes, it wasn't a shootout goal, but as the rule says...if you effect the goalies ability to make the save, it should be interference.
I'm all for imagination...but the goalie still needs to have a chance at the save. |

I never seen Khabibulin trying to reach back. The contact with the goalie had no bearing of the puck going in or not. The goalie had already slid across the crease before the contact was made.
At least that I was I seen. |

Guest4840 I guess if everything should just be taken for the way it is...we should shut down all forums and debates and not think about a single thing that happens in the world? maybe we should do that....since you obviously don't think for yourself.
Beans - It looked to me like he was trying...maybe that's just how i saw it. I just back to the same move he pulled on turco where he didn't run into turco and he sprawled back and made the save.

That could have happened here if Shannon didn't run into him. That's all I'm saying. |

Listen to the commentator. He basically said ''enough of the whining Nik''
I personally think Nik was frustrated he let it in, and in a glimpse tried to play on the rules and have a re-do because in theory he could have said he was interfered with. It is a tactic I have used a couple times though it is baseless most of the time and comes out of frustration at oneself rather than at an opponent.

If that was interference by Shannon then it was also tripping on Bullie. one word, goal. |

Khabibulin was at fault believe it or not. If you take a close look at the video he attempts a poke check on Shannon. He does not make contact with the puck first before Shannon is interfered with by Khabibulin's stick.
This play is no different than when a defenceman makes the diving play to knock the puck off of an offensive players stick. If he makes contact with the puck first, and then the player is tripped it is a good play. If he trips the player then makes contact with the puck he will get two for tripping.
Khabibulin never makes contact with the puck, and his poke check causes Shannon to fall...The goal is good according to the rules...
