Poll Question:
So Alexander Ovechkin was the first to crack 50 goals in 07/08 (52 goals in 67 games) Who will be the next this year?

Pittsburg doesnt have enough games for Malkin to score 13 goals. and Crosby is playing tonight. My guess is Ilya

Ilya has enough of a lead and is the only scorer in Atlanta. But without Hossa you can be sure it is hard...
Iginla is my pick, followed by Kovie and Malkin in close seconds, Malkin because I think he could have an amazing next few games, Kovalchuk for the opposite reason, he is leaning on enough to tide him over.

I have to say Kovie because he is the closest and the best goal scorer then any of those guys on the list.
Good defense is good offense! |

I voted Malkin because if you look in the last 10 games he has about 15 points and about half of them are goals. If he keeps that up he's he next one to get 50 goals.

Malkin, with Crosby back in the game, and Hossa soon to come, he should be the next one to 50. The way Kovalchuk has been sliding, I can't see him making it before Malkin, if at all...

But the thing with Malkin is that he scored all his points for that reason. Crosby and Hossa weren't there. With those two there, the scoring will be spread out, with those two out, Malkin had to step it up a bunch, and he did, but when they are back, everyone wont rely on Malkin to convert, he will be top three, not top one.

I went with Kovie based on pure puck hogging ability lol, but when you consider Crosby is back, and is more of a set-up man than a goal scorer, it makes a good case for Malkin to get there first. Perhaps even more so now that he has a guy like Crosby feeding the puck to him. |

I went with Kovalchuk but i don't think anyone else will reach 50. Kovy just hasn't been the same since that knee injury. But you never know with him he could get on a hot streak and have a couple of multi-goal games. |

That's true, but we've seen what he can REALLY do...that happened to be when Sid was out. Who knows how much he can score WITH him. Crosby is more of a playmaker anyway.

I know the feeling let me explain since I have been in Malkin's shoes.
When you play with a guy like Crosby you have a tendency to want to pass the puck. It just looks bad if you do not every so often.
Now, if Malkin plays with a bunch of pylons, he does not feel like he needs to pass. That way, he can make plays by himself and not worry. Same with Crosby. But when they play together, they are too selfish to be selfish if you know what I mean.
It happens all the time in house league, that is why no line is stacked. You need the good dominant guys to be alone. Or with an overachiever. The minute they have expectations, they start to diminish. First year Thornton Cheechoo - no problem! Once Cheechoo is considered a superstar, he feels pressure, so does Thornton, and you have what they have now. It is hard to understand if you have not been there

Hopefully a few. I've got Kovy, Zetterberg, Nash and Gaby in my pool! Should've weighted the goals a bit, I guess! Ilya will do it, though.
The Oil WILL make the playoffs in 2009. |
