It will be Lidstrom. By far the best D-man in the league. And you see the Red Wings don't do as well when he isn't in the line up. |

Hey, it's good to see other people believe the Norris isn't the Art Ross for defencmen. Props to Lidstrom... he's great, and Detroit suffers when hes not in the lineup, but they also suffer when they're missing Chelios, Rafalski, and Kronwall during the same stretch! Detroit is too good of a team to need him during the regular season. Without him, they might only be tops in their division, not conference! Ooooohh. Calgary's playoff hopes hinges on Iggy and Phaneuf, especially as Kipper has not played up to par (his par). Dion Phaneuf leads all D-men (or is tied for the lead) in shots, pims, ppgs, and gwgs, not to mention 2nd in goals and 5th in points. How 'bout being ranked in the top ten (D-men) in every other important category (except plus/minus). Like 6th in hits with 188 vs. Lidstroms' 23. Takeaways -- 8th with 47 vs. Listroms' 22. Or simply how he plays the game and his presence on the ice. Nick is great.. the best of our era. The closest thing to Bourque or Orr perhaps. But he's getting old.. and it's time to pass the torch. Dion Phaneuf, stand up please, it's now your turn to receive the honor. Our Norris trophy winner.
Okay, I'm slightly biased. I've been rooting for him all year, but I think I make a good case for him. Did you see that shorthanded goal he had a week ago against Minnesota? Check youtube if you haven't. "xxxx yeah" -- took the words right out of my mouth Dion. How about his shot? Breaking two panes of glass in one period! Sick, just sick. My hats off and votes in for you Dion Phaneuf.

Timay in that same game against Minnie Boogard took a run at phaneuf and phaneuf put him on his butt.!!
Where was Maguire with his "Monster" on that one!!
Lidstroms an awesome player but my vote is for Dion.

Phaneuf pher Norris
Dion is good. But Dion has gotten burnt or has been out of position in every single game he has played. If I can use an analogy, Dion is like pitcher with a 110mph fastball, he's flashy and does flashy things. When that fastball isn't there, he and his team is screwed.
Lidstrom is flawless. I have yet to see a game where he makes a mistake or has been caught out of position. Not only that but his break out pass is second to no one (that's why he leads the league in defencemen points and +/-). Using the baseball analogy, Lidstrom is Maddux like. He doesn't overpower you with stuff but every game he plays, he pitches the perfect game. That's why he will win the Norris for years to come. There is no smarter player in the game of hockey right now and arguably ever as Nick Lidstrom. |

The best shut-down defenseman this year in my opinion is Zdeno Chara, he is THE reason the bruins even have a shot at a playoff berth this year, he is keeping things defensively held together, and who's the next top defenseman? Wideman? There's no doubt in my mind that he's one of, if not the best defensively, and he is also very good on the PP. His numbers are climbing every year, he should be a serious candidate for the Norris this year.

I agree, I found this poll could have included some more deserving players, who should actually be nominated alongside Nicky Lidstrom: Mike Green (WAS) Zdeno Chara (BOS) honourable mention: Duncan Keith (CHI)
I voted for Phaneuf, because as a defenseman, maybe only two other guys (the ones I mentioned above) are even close to as valuable to their team. All the other ones have a decent supporting cast.
But Lidstrom will again, undeservedly this time.

Lidstrom, reluctantly because that puts him in the caliber with Orr and coffey, and I personally dont think that is possible |

My vote is still with Lidstrom. Solid defensively, large offensive contribution and a class act. Composed and classy, and Detroit suffers with out him. I like Phaneuf and I think hes gonna be the future of the Norris but IMO Lidstrom has 1 more coming. |
