So today i will talk about the Calgary Flames, one of 7 teams who have made the playoffs the past 4 seasons. They have recently acquired mike cammilari, rene bourque, reaquiring mark giordano, and curtis glencross. Daryl sutter appears to be taking a build inside the organization plan. THIS IS PURELY MY OPINION

This link goes to their websites projected lineup, and they have a few problems, and a more plusses.
Starting at the back end Kipper is as solid as goalie as there is and has the potential to be a vezina winner again. His last season was down a notch to what he is usually, but he still gives you a chance to win every night. And this was his first year not as a vezina finalist since joining the boys from cow town. Curtis Mchlennny as a backup is relatively unproven, but has had a fairly solid carreer on the farm, and with the ammount kipper plays, does it matter?
Their D also seemed to be weaker last year than usual in the sutter reign. They had quite a few fresh faces, and it seemed that they needed to get used to Keenans system. With another year under their belts, they should have a way better year, and if they play like they started to in the end of the season they should be one of the premier d corps. Lets start with the extras warrener and erricson, both are old and not expected to get much use. regehr and srich are great defensively and against the sharks played unbelievable, but they are known to be streaky. with godard gone vandermeer is the resident tough guy on the flames, not affraid to go with anybody(fought cris simon last year) and will provide an edge and toughness. Aucooin is not very good anymore, but could provide a bit of offense with his booming shot. Giordano is back from Russia, and looks to continue on his play from two seasons ago when he should promise in both ends of the ice. Phaneuf should improve this year again, and in the next few years become the best D in the league, with lidstrom and the two ducks, getting older, he should have a good chance this season.
Their forwards as always are a question mark. Their top line is awesome with superstar iginla, solid center langkow, and budding scoring star cammilari, their first lijne is set for another high scoring season. Line four is the only other line that seems to be set wwith primeau glencross and brandon prust to provide some edge speed, and abraisevness. This leaves lombardi conroy boyd nystrom moss and borque for the second and third lines. they look to lack scoring and a vetern prescence. This is one of the big qquestion marks, but the young age and speed may be taking a chance for good or more than likely bad.
Needs. At this point they need second line calibur players, and it is rumoured that naslund and bertuzzi could be in the mix, or sutter might make a trade. Owen nolan is also a possibility
Draft Calgary picked some projects once again in the draft, but the big news was their trades. Which i believe is a plus, because tanguay struggled here and cammalari is more likely to do better under the hockey mad stress of calgary.
KEY LOSSES IN FREE AGENCY Huselius, godard, joesph
Leaves them with out a fighter and a proven back up. Huselius is an enigma. He is great in the start of the season, but when it gets to a pressure situation, he crumbles. In the playoff race and playoffs even with lots of power play time, and playing with iginla he continued to not produce points. He was not a good fit with keenan, but should excel in columbus where playoffs are unlikely and pressure is low.
Projection 3rd in west They should contend for the NW title, with the revamped oilers, and wild, but the avalanche and canucks have to many holes this season to contend with them.
CUP chances? They will always have a chance at the cup with the great play of iginla, solid D, and the chance that kipper can steal games for them.
SO... There will be growing pains with all the new players, but with a weakened divsion they should make it through alright.

while the oilers are much improved they are to young and unproven to think that they could win, but with that youngness comes the possibility for a surprise, justm less likely. also vishnosky is way over paid for his play, and some of their players are likely to have worse seasons then last year, good chance to make playoffs. poor to finish any better than third in the div. Only all star in edmonton is hemsky and possibly garon |

actually makes some good points on the team, although its not certain, rene bourqe has been talked about around the league lately as a decent 2nd liner with great speed for a bigger guy |
