I have two others for my favourite Russian superstar. A liked Mogilny, smooth skater and a pair of the quickest hands ever in the NHL, he was not as dynamic or as flashy or as good Ovechkin but I always liked him.
The other is Tretiak - he had very limited NHL games and not much success but this goalie was the first and best russian superstar. Watch the summit series and you will see why. Outstanding goaltender after which some of the future superstars molded their game, Grant Fuhr to name one. |

Gotta agree with porkchop and axey, I'd take of Kulemin and and i would put Mogilny. Bure is my fav, but Mogilny is close second.

Maybe a simple change of the title will settle the arguement....
Who is your favorite Russian player? as opposed to superstar...Kulemin, Zherdev and Semin aren't exactly what I'd call a superstar. |

This has nothing to do with me likeing the Canucks, It has to to with the lack of good choices on the list, where is Mogilny, Larionov, Gonchar, Markov, Yashin(yes Yashin is better then Kulemin), Khabibulin and Kovelev if your going to put Kulemin, Zherdev and Semin who may be "Superstars" some day but are not today.

| I would say Pavel Bure. Growing up in Edm watching the Oilers in the 80's and 90's then moving all over the country watching games in almost all of the arenas, I am able to see a lot of teams and a lot of players. I was very impressed with Pavel Bure. Entire games revolved around him. Amazing player |

Would have said Bure (Pavel, of course) without hesitation - but then along came Ovechkin, and for me, that makes it no contest. Ovechkin, IMO, has everything that Gretzky and Lemieux had to be one of the very best ever.

Can you make your text bigger? I can't quite see it...
And as for the best Russian ever, I can't say Ovechkin because he hasn't played long enough, but I will go off the board with Tretiak. This guy changed the way a lot of goalies played the game. |
