What will it take for Tim Thomas (Bruins Goalie) to get more Respect ?

It is distrubing how Rick DiPietro is injured and is on the ballot but Thomas is not .....

Bruins fan ?
Listen Tim Thomas is not gonna get respect for a while. At least by the NHL fans.
I mean everyone thought in the Stanley Cup run of the Hurricanes that Cam Ward was this huge uprising star....now look at him. Watch a game when Cam Ward starts, he faces an average of 13 shots a game and the other team will have 3-4 goals on the board. Plus, if youre a youth hockey coach, you should show a film of Cam Ward to your kids, and tell them :"that is not what you do ! "
Thats the thing about Tim Thomas, the fans THINK hes not that special. Meanwhile the Bruins defense is ok, so whos really keeping the score 2-1 Bruins ? It's Tim Thomas ! I respect him, but the fans dont just yet !
They dont want another Cam Ward ahhaa

Yeah that last post was mine. Just wanted to add one more thing.
DiPietro is an Islander with all this hype. Last years all star game had him start with Lundvist .60 below GAA. His shots faced was higher too. Like i said, its the fans of the NHL not yet giving Thomas the respect he desereves.

Well there are a couple of reasons i can think of off the top of my head to think why he hasn't gotten respect yet:

1. Two years ago, this guy was a third string goalie, and people thought this guy's career is over; not so. Because of this, people think Thomas is the luckiest goaltender in hockey.

2. This guy hasn't done anything spectacular. He was on an 8th place Bruins team that struggled to make the playoffs last year only to get ousted in the first round.

Now if the Bruins make a good playoff run this year with Thomas at their helm, then all of the non- believers will start giving him the respect that arguably he deserves. Until then, he'll have to be a write-in ballot at the all-star game

I just don't think he's proven yet, as some of you have said. Reminds me of Osgood a lot, who still doesn't get much respect, and there is even a topic to debate if he should enter the Hall of Fame! Some goalies don't get props because they aren't flashy... I'd go with consistent anyday.

I am completely dumbfounded.

Tim Thomas is as good as anyone coming from the same person who says Toskala is a piece of trash and a horrible positional goalie?? If you want to see the worst positional goalie in the NHL, look no further than Tim Thomas.

Granted, I like Thomas. His athleticism and flexability keep him in most plays. He's a lot of fun to watch play. However, the reason he gets no respect is because he is streaky. Very streaky. And we all know (from Toronto Media specifically) it's not what you have done, it is what you have done lately. Thomas (like any other goalie)will get the respect as long as he is winning and producing, as soon as he slips, the respect is gone.

The guy has put up 3 solid years and is starting onto year 4...Jim Carey wona Vezina for less!! - how'd that work out?
Thomas positioning is like that of a street hockey goalie but it comes with a silver lining - 15 of the Top 20 saves of the year will be by him!!!

I am a huge Thomas fan and in my fantasy drafts I always seem to be in a position where I am looking for help and bang it comes in the form of TIm Thomas...(2 weeks ago legace slips on a carpet - I put Thomas in he plays 4 games, wins 3 and gets 2 shutouts!).

I think the Bruins should ship out Fernandez to someone else - (NJ/NYI/OTT) and clear the decks for the Thomas/Rask era...

Oh that's right Rask - the guy the leafs traded to get a guy that now rides the pine in Colorado.

Well, his style is very rough . . . but he's been quite good for the last couple of years.

The All-Star thing was definitely a snub, but not a huge one. He's a good goalie, great when on a hot streak. If he continues his more steady play of late, he'll take the Bruins to at least a second round, and then he'll have real reason to cry foul. Until then - it's a minor foul.

Tim Thomas will not get respect for two reasons - the first being he has not established himself as a true number one. The second being that bruins have continued to always look for a better goaltender showing the rest of the league they have no confidence in him either

I am interested in your thoughts TimHorton since you posted this topic

You dropping the gloves porkchop ?!!!!
I think he has the potential to be great, my biggest pain point is that Boston is not the hockey town it used to be, I think if Boston was there to support him he would be great.

Tim Thomas has had all the opportunity he needs to show if he could step up and be the out right number one in Beantown. He is hot and cold and not consistent thus not earning the respect deserving of a nod to the all star game.
Boston is still a great Hockey city, there fans are just as crazy as leaf fans.
You have to be careful using the Hockeytown reference it upsets the wing fans when refer to any other city as a Hockeytown.
Question to you TimHorton - if you were to own a jersey of your favourite team what colours would be on that jersey! I guessing you would like a pink leafs jersey.

I would say "consistency". He has been more than a little flakey in the past. He's very hot and cold. And considering his age (34), his peak time will be short, so perceived value is low. But my hat is off to him for looking great in the last few weeks. Let's see if he can keep it up for a full season. For the record, his numbers have essentially improved year over year since 03.

Interestingly here is an recent article on Tim Thomas: http://www.pickuphockey.com/hockeynews.aspx?article=7012990120
