how do you see Mats's Stats in Vancouver?

Couple of things that need to be cleaned up. Mats Sundin signed a one year, $10 million (pro rated) deal with Vancouver. He is not there for 2 years unless he re-signs in the off season.
That being said, he is only going to play about 40-45 games this season. That last report I heard is that is he will be in Vancouver on Dec. 27. If this is true, the earliest he would play is the 28th, being Vancouver's 37 game.
If he gets 40 or more points, this would be a huge addition to the Canucks and worth every penny. Personally, I would think 30-35 points is more reasonable.

If and when the Canucks do not win the cup, I think that would end up putting an asterisk, so to speak, beside an otherwise very good career. For me at least, Mats Sundin is Mr. Consistent. Since his rookie season, he has never had a full length season under 72 points. And he's been on the same team the entire time.
It all goes back to the theory of learning to quit while you are ahead. Sundin is going down the same path as Forsberg, and it ain't pretty.

EDIT: You're shooting 1 for 2 in the proofreading category Fat Elvis. I did mention that he had an under 72 pt season. But I forgot to mention he played with the Nordiques. A bad slip up, but to be sure, I did know that. |

Sorry to be picky, but, , Sundin actually played his first 4 years with Quebec, who drafted him 1st overall in 1989, and he only had 59 pts. in a full season.
To make Mats the poster boy for "have suitcase will travel, if there is a cup there', is really not fair, as mentioned, Forsberg's been there, but I think Mats will not have the same health issues, or chances at the cup that Forsberg has had.
A players career can be stellar, but without a cup on the resume, it will always be thought of differently, than players who have one on theirs. Ray Bourque for example. Of course this can also work the opposite way, a player can be a cup winning maestro, but still a plug ie: Claude Lemieux.
Either way, to think that Mats will take the Canucks to the grail with his presence, is premature and optimistic at best, I just hope he doesn't end up the next Vancouverised Messier.

Not to nitpick (well, actually, yea to nitpick...) I read recently in a Toronto paper that Mats actually took less than the 10 mill and took 8mill pro rated. ANYWAYS, The Vancouver Canucks don't make it past the first round of the playoffs this year and this whole soap opera saga was a total waste of time. I would also put money on Sundin getting hurt before the regular season is over. He hasn't played since april and he was nursing some injuries then. Plus, he has never had to deal with the significantly tougher western conference. I have a hard time picturing this thing working out the way they are hoping it to...

| Mats did sign pro-rated at 8 mil. His career stats are 1.1 pts per game (I think) so there is no reason to expect anymore or less. I like the options Vancouver has now, and would love to see any Canadian team win the cup (except Ott) so I hope this works out for Mats and the nucks. |

| I expect we'll see around 0.9 points per game for most of the season, but probably a bit slower at the start as he conditions and gets used to his new team mates. Whether or not he's enough to get the 'Nucks past the first round is another question. There are two extremely tough teams in the West and really none of the teams that make the playoffs are pushovers. That said, the Canucks have a lot of forward depth now, especially if you include the farm team. It was very smart to not give Sundin the "C" like the Canucks did with Messier. I expect him to be one additional offensive weapon on a team that already has the defensive side of the game covered. |
