http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2008/12/29/cherepanov_blood_doping/
i don't know how many of you know all the details of the Cherepanov death, but this article brings up a few points that Russian investigators have brought to light that i was not aware of,... for one they confirm he had a heart condition and should not have been playing hockey, also that he had been blood doping for quite some time,,, that doctors did not arrive on the scene until 12 minutes after he colasp and their difibulator was not functional,, i mean this is error after error that caused a young mans death...

Here is an interesting thing to consider. Maybe the blood doping thing is a potential cover up to deflect some of the other issues. Seriously, if the Kid was blood doping, I have a lot less compation for the loss than I did before. However, I would not be surprised, in a country that has been known for coruption, that the blood doping thing is a cover up.
That being said, the medical staff in NY might have a responsibility as well. If this "heart condition" was as apparent as it appears, they should have and could have caught it. Especially since they would get some kind of compensation in ways of a future first round draft pick if they found that he could no longer play hockey due to the condition.
All in all, from the top to the bottom, the whole thing was screwed up. Hopefully, some positive change will come from this. |

Excellent article and post Pasty, I also must say how did the NYR medical staff not find similar heart condition results during their medicals for the rookie camp. The tests they do are very indepth around that especially after Jiri Fischers incident. I too am having a hard time believing the truthness in the Russian investigation. I still seems too weird. Doping could be possible but I am smelling cover up. There is something that is not be shared by the Russians. |

It looks like a cover up for me too. I mean, Igor Larionov needed a way to show the world that the KHL was a "good league" after the death, and he wholly tried to make it seam like the fact that there was no ambulance or defibrillator on site wasn't as bad as everyone made it seem. I think this blood doping allegation is just a way for the KHL to say "See, it's not our fault".
It just seams fishy to me how the investigation lasted only a few months and how it was handled so quickly. |
