I actually heard that both are coming to TO!!!!!

Then Burke is going trade them both to Vancouver for Sundin....then the planet of Toronto can finally rest again.

Sorry Hanley, couldn't help myself, but it sounds about as plausible as yours....

Well Hanley your TO dreams keep coming. I will say that the Kovalchuk rumour is and has been lingering. Most of that is because most insiders are saying Kovalchuk is tired of playing in a deadbeat hockey town and wants to go where people cherish their hockey. However the price for him is likely to high for TO as Atlanta will want prospects and picks.
Pronger rumour is only because of Burke being in TO. Pronger does not fit the rebuilding model TO is shooting for. They do not need a 34 year old d-man even if he is currently one of the best. They will not have enough time to rebuild around him.

It is fun to dream but that is all that either would be for TO.
I will give you this, if either of the two were by some miracle to be dealt to TO, I would say it would be Kovalchuk. Still has plenty time left for a rebuilding franchise with him as the centre piece. I think he is only 28?

Maybe Pronger, but from Burkes history, i cant see Kovalchuk becoming a leaf...
He doesn't seem to be a fan of european players, so Kovalchuk coming to toronto seems unrealistic. Who exactly could the Leafs trade to get one of the best defencemen in the league, and then go and get one of the elite scorers in the league from a team who without him shouldn't be in the league?? I would LOVE to see Kovalchuk get traded to a Canadian team, because i dont think he gets enough credit for how talented he actually is. Playing in the hockey hot spot that is TO, he would get coverage and fan support. I dont know what place toronto is in, but im sure if they got Pronger and Kovalchuk, they may be able to make a late season push. If Burke was really good, he could get Little over in Toronto too haha. Very unlikely, but i guess this is why fans dream at night. Although Pronger is getting old, and if Toronto is actually rebuilding then i doubt he will be sought after.
(Kovalchuk is 25 by the way, so still young and cabable of leading the leafs to the cup haha )

Sorry, but I'm having one those days where the world is full of oppurtinities for me and my smart mouth to blather.

If what you stated is true....what are the Sedins?...Inuits?, or french-canadian like Selanne?

No problem, point taken. But when he first got to Anaheim, i believe he did move a fair amount of european players i think. This is only what i have heard, i dont really care what happens in anahiem too much

A 34 year old Pronger rather than a 38 year old Brad May would be the perfect experienced veteran to help a young rebuilding team like Toronto Pronger would provide leadership the perfect Captain skills Toronto lacked since the Doug Gilmour days... Pronger would help a rebuilding team for sure. That being said Pronger still has a few more great seasons left in his career and is exactly what Toronto needs and should be looking for to help a rebuilding franchise

1. I can almost guarantee Pronger won't be moving anywhere, no reason for Anaheim to move one of their most valuable pieces.

2. Kovalchuk is a different story - this year could be the one where he gets out of Atlanta, but I don't see the Leafs getting him. If we're talking about acquiring a star player to build around, I think he'll be looking for someone with more leadership, grit and playoff experience. Or, potentially, someone younger.

That being said, I'm not totally gainst Kovalchuk - he's got massive skills, and can dominate - but I haven't seen that real fire/edge you need from your team leader. Maybe it's because he's been on a crap team his whole career, who knows.

For players that might be dangled out there in trades, I am more excited about the potential of a St. Louis, Spezza, Kariya, Frolov, Wolski, Svatos, etc. These are actual possibilities, as opposed to dreams about Pronger.
