It sure is refreshing to see the 100th season of Habdom come crashing down on their heads. It is a cool and cloudy morning and it looks like rain but the sun has been shining brightly in my world since the Bruins shoved the "Less" Habitants over the proverbial cliff last evening. Where was all that class crap in the stands last night? Booing the U.S. anthem? Booing young Carey Price? A very selfish penalty to end the game? The modern day Hab fan is as sore a loser as there is in hockey and it just proves that all that "Glorioux" stuff is a pile of manure. Hey, guess what? The Leafs and Habs are tied in playoff wins this year and we pick before them in the draft!!!! LOL.....

Early morning drugs this morning bud?
Montreal did bad. But the Leafs did brutal. Trust me you are in no position to chirp the Canadians right now. Have fun with that draft pick, it won't get you too much. Hedman is pretty good, Tavares is over rated and teh rest are ok...no franchise players though. Make playoffs or win a cup in the last 40 years and I will allow you to have the satifaction of chirping.
Crosby is not the Lord & Savior of the NHL, get over yourself McGuire. Gretzky has never once high-sticked a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Kicking the habs while they're down... that's cold. What about St. Louis, they had an equally futile playoff run. I guess that's what make's a rivalry... A leafs fan cheering for a Bruins team to beat the Canadiens.
I was hoping for at least one win out of montreal, just from a fantasy perspective (need more Bruins games to collect their points), that's why I'm upset with the habs. |

There is no class. This has happened before (Patrick Roy) and will happen again. They even picked on Gainy. For shame! |

Everything just fell apart for Montreal. The lack of class from the fans is just frustration. The hype coming into this year was totally overblown and expectations were way to high. The habs at least have an opportunity to wipe the slate clean and create a new identity for the team. Next year they could be a much better club depending on who they sign and if the kids from Hamilton step up, or they could very well enter leafs territory and drop down the standings and try to rebuild the club withing a year or two. I can't beleive im saying "habs" and "rebuild" after the season they had last year but face the facts, this year could really set them back significantly.
Reeder, you dont know for sure if there are any franchise players this year. Wait until some of these kids play a year or two in NHL before passing judgement on that. While I don't think there are any Malkins or Ovechkins in the draft, Tavares, Hedman and Duchene could all be front line NHL players. Cowan, Ellis, Kadri, Paajarvi-Svensson,Kane and Schenn could also turn out to be studs in the NHL.

In don't think the hype on Montreal was too big or overblown. The team won the East last year and were 3 games from the east final. To have that kind of season, keep basically the entire team (save Streit and Ryder) and pick up Lang. There was no reason for Montreal or their fans to not expect more. However, the team was in turmoil before the all star break. Price slid, Lang got hurt, the Mob ties, the coach firing. All that is a lot to overcome. Obviously they didn't.
The problem is moving forward. I think they have 10 UFA's and another 6 RFA's. Not condusive to improving unless they can be cost effective is re-signing some players and being active on the UFA market come July.
The fans, well they are what they are. Always have been. Passionate to say the least. However, their passion is getting clouded with some pretty classless actions. But that's the same as any other team out there. I can count the times I hear on televised games when they start chanting "Let's Go (insert team name here), Let's Go - (Insert oppositions team name here) Suck!" I never heard that up until the past 4-5 years.
And don't get me wrong, I am not painting all fans of teams with the same brush. There are great fans and bad fans for every team. It's just unfortunate for Montreal that it appears their "bad" fans are the one's making the most noise and making their "good" fans look bad. |

I think the Montreal fans pretty much sealed Carey Price's future with the organisation once his contract is up. |

typical leafs fans bashinh the habs when the leafs have been playing golf for the past how many post season? OH DONT BET ME STARTED. The habs would of maybe lost no matter what, i have to give all the credit to the world to the bruins who have a very good team (possibly the best post season built team in the league)
You say ur talking about the facts... LETS GET THE FACTS STRAIGHT RIGHT NOW!
The habs are probably the most injured team in the league this year. I dont know the numbers but put all the teams that made the playoffs i would bet anything the amount of starters the habs missed this year would be number 1. WITH THAY SAying the bruins would of probably still beat the habs if they have everyone BUT would of never been 4 games.
I wont go on with the injuries cause if you are to ignorant to realize it well that not my problem grow some hockey sense.
Lets put it this way. Remove the bruins from there best defensemen (chara)... there best powerplay point guy ( wideman? not sure) There best centreman (Savard) And there speediest player (Kessel) and tell me if boston would be the same time. YES your argument will be markov is no chara and lang is no savard..... BUt they mean as much to the habs team as they would mean to the bruins team if they would lose these guys. Alot more injuries during the season made it very hard BUT HEY ATLEAST WE STILL MADE THE PLAYOFF!!!
All im going to say is i am dissapointed the way the season ended BUT with all the injuries i never though we would make the playoff even. WE were lucky to make the playoff not cause the habs stink but cause of half our team this year was playing with AHL players. LIKE THE LEAFS BUT US ITS CAUSE OF INJURIES AND NOT CAUSE THEY ARE OUR STARTERS.
I hope the habs make the right move and let gainey go at the end of they year. Its the way it goes in a big market u gotta blame someone and they blame it on the wrong guy (carbonneau)so my guess gainey as seen his last days.... but thats just my guess or my thoughs/
thanks. |

Beans, you have a point. The hype heading into the season was warranted, as they had a great season the year before and the young players on the team were expected to improve. I guess what I was saying is that I wasn't sold on it. But i guess my bias is to blame for that.
So many things came together last year, it seemed like everyone on the team had a caraeer year, and to try and repeat that is very difficult.
I've kind of noticed alot of people on the forum are really running high on emotion right now. You've gotta love the playoffs, the fans are really getting up for it. The NHL is running strong and I can't wait to see who brings home the cup this year.

Actually the bruins were missing their leading goal scorer from last year. Marco Sturm lead the team in goals. |

Hey Pasty, Yea it has been awhile but when the Habs lose you have to jump back on the bike you know? Now I can relax and just watch the games in a relaxed manner. I am kinda' partial to Vancouver though. I have always rooted for them in the West so coupled with my affinity to the Mighty Maples I haven't had alot to crow about in recent years. I guess that would explain taking solace in the fall of the Habs and the Senators. I am still partial to my man Antro. I would like to see him come back to T.O. as a free agent this summer but I'm not holding my breath of course. When they traded him I shorted out my keyboard with my tears and had to replace it....just kidding, but I was pretty miserable about it for sure!!! Anyways, I think our club played pretty good this season and were more entertaining than anyone suspected. Thanks to Burke and Wilson I really enjoyed watching the Toronto media cower and squirm for a change. Hopefully our club will start to improve over the next couple of years? |

From Guest 9244: BUT HEY ATLEAST WE STILL MADE THE PLAYOFF!!!
That is funny! The Habs made the playoffs because the Bruins had mercy on them and beat them in overtime during their last regular season meeting. Had they beat them in Regular time, Montreal would have been out! Habs fans are starting to sound like us Leafs fans.
Also, every team has injuries. The Leafs beat a much better Senator team in 2002 with many players out including Sundin. Then they lost against Carolina when those players came back. Go figure. So let's not harp on injuries.
With all the turmoil and distractions, the plain fact is that there was no heart in the Habs this year. You can see it in their faces. And, this was not a united team. |

Poor habs fans... missing the playoffs would have been better than having to see that. But I really do feel sorry for Habs fans. I mean, their No.1 goalie isn't turning out to be who they thought he was, so there's an issue. They have something like 10 UFA's this offseason, so their team will look alot different next season. Not to mention the fact that they now have to live with the burden of having been swept in their centennial season, a season in which many "experts" had them pegged to win the Cup at the beginning. The future sure does look bad for them, just what that city full of losers deserves.

To the one guest making the comments about losing players to injuries. Not even close. Here is information from April 9th, which was only about a week before the end of the season. Here are the teams, in order, by most man games missed.
Team Man Games Lost New York Islanders 551 St. Louis Blues 457 Washington Capitals 366 Dallas Stars 366 Tampa Bay Lightning 334 Colorado Avalanche 333 San Jose Sharks 330 Columbus Blue Jackets 325 Philadelphia Flyers 320 Calgary Flames 304 Pittsburgh Penguins 274 Minnesota Wild 264 Florida Panthers 257 Anaheim Ducks 245 Montreal Canadiens 245 Nashville Predators 225 Boston Bruins 217 Edmonton Oilers 217 Buffalo Sabres 213 Toronto Maple Leafs 210 Carolina Hurricanes 208 Vancouver Canucks 201 Detroit Red Wings 180 Ottawa Senators 180 Chicago Blackhawks 172 New Jersey Devils 153 Los Angeles Kings 147 Atlanta Thrashers 142 Phoenix Coyotes 78 New York Rangers 30
As you can see, there is really no link between man games missed and success. Washington has one of the best regular season teams and they missed more than 100 more man games than Montreal. St. Louis, San Jose, Calgary, Philly, and Pittsburgh all missed more games than Montreal. Hell, even Boston was around 30 man games less than the Habs and were SIGNIFICANTLY better.
Now, I know that it depends on the players who get injured as well, but c'mon, that's hockey. Pitt lost Crosby for almost 1/2 last season and they still made the finals! Sounds like an excuse to me.
And you are dead right. Take Chara, Savard, Wideman, and Kessel off the Bruins and you more than likely have the Habs. So all that says is that the Canadiens are simply not good enough to compete with the best teams in the league.

Antroman - Few guys, if any, here are going to get the place where your words are coming from more than me.
The Habs - dead and buried! And at the hands of the team they have dealt SO much misery to over the years, a whole new brand of it in the 2000s, let alone the real painful stuff from yesteryear.
A question to ponder then.
Has any series, EVER (and I mean this) been as utterly satisfying for the fans of a team than that one was for Bruins fans?
Think about it - out of 240 minutes the Habs were only in the lead for roughly 20 minutes.
SWEET JUSTICE! |

I'm no Bruins fan, but I can appreciate your feeling of elation, Andyhack. I share in it!
Loved the barb about Toronto having as many playoff wins as Montreal . . . that one made me laugh out loud.
In all seriousness though, I had predicted a closer series, with Montreal getting at least two wins. Boston has shown themselves to be exactly what San Jose hasn't: they are as advertised in the regular season, the team to beat. Krejci is a monster out there; Chara and Wideman are playing amazing; Thomas has played at the same excellent level; Savard is leading by example; the depth up and down the line-up unsurpassed by any other eastern team.
I really wish I had picked more Bruins players now, but who knows - every team is just one hot goalie away from 4 losses (see: Washington).

Here it is the second day after the Hab massacre and I just can't seem to get the smile off my face. Hey, and I'm not even a Bruin fan!!! There is almost nothing more satisfying than watching anybody kicking the crap out of Montreal. Why are they called The Canadiens anyway? Didn't 49% of them vote to separate from Canada in the last referendum? Just wondering!!! Unfortunately, it has almost made the playoffs anti-climatic for me but I am throwing my hat into Vancouver's ring. Go Canucks.
By the way: Did you hear the one about the Hab fish? IT DROWNED!!!!! |

YES! There is indeed nothing more satisfying than seeing Montreal lose. But I have to say, it is because of the fans and not because of the team.
They are poor winners (very arrogant) and the sorest losers. I actually felt sorry for the players and I am glad Gainey put them in their place yesterday during the press conference.
And best of all, we don't have to hear that STUPID and RIDICULOUS Ole Ole chant for the rest of the season.

The crowd wonders why Carey Price has been shaky lately. Hmm 21 years old and the crowd is on his case after the effort the Habs give in game 4. I'm embarrassed to be a Habs fan after that, but not in the least was it Price's fault. He is the only diamond in the rough I see in this team this year, with that being said may I ask why O'Byrne even has a pair of skates? Absolutely horrible. |

I feel sorry for Koivu abd Price. Saku was the only one who seemed to truly give a damn out there and price is just a 21 year old kid. The fans should not have booed the hell out of him the way they did. This guy is closest thing to a franchise player they have, yet the want to run him out of town. How stupid.
Anyone here sakus comments? If hes not resigned by July 1st hes gone.

Wow this is just sad... Are leafs fans really that insecure that they have nothing better to do than content themselves with the fall of their rivals??? Oh wait, thats right, they've been dead in the water since when? November?
And beans, those stats are bullsh*t. It's not simply number of games missed, but who the injured players are and when they miss the games. Montreal was a threat into January. I believe they were 4th in the east and running with the top teams, except Boston of course, who, lets face was obviously better then the Habs this year, and all the other teams for that matter.
Then Lang goes down... leading scorer out for the season. Komisarek and Price come back from injuries and are clearly not the players they were before. Then come playoff time, the most important time of the year, and were missing Lang, Tanguay, Markov, Scneider, Kostitsyn, Bouillon...
Name me a successful team from that list who has lost four significant players from their roster (Lang, Tanguay, Markov, Scneider all for playoffs)?
A lot of those teams' Man games lost stats are very inflated. For example, Washington. I'm sure Brian Pothier's 73 missed games are counted even though he hasnt played for... 2 years maybe with a concussion. |

Yeah, Thrasher, that is really sad . . . sad to see that all those Habs fans who jumped on the playoff bandwagon hoping for a series win are now crying fowl for getting laughed at!
If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen, brother. It's not just Leafs fans (and obviously Bruins fans) who celebrate Montreal leaving . . . and it's nice for a change when the bashing is against some other team, rather than than you-know-who.
And the fact that Lang WAS leading the team when he went down? THAT'S one of your problems, actually. Kovalev, Tanguay - these guys should have been your leaders. Spotty, inconsistent play from your leaders was always going to be an issue with this team of underachievers.
I find Montreal a very badly put together squad in general, and despite the talent on the team, their fate seems deserved.

Leafs fans are not insecure. They are true fans that stay behind their team no matter what. We take abuse from everyone, especially Montreal fans. I cannot tell you how many times I have heard "When was the last time the Leafs won the cup?" along with the same stupid jokes year after year.
So now it is our turn to enjoy sticking it! And they deserve it. Montreal fans are spoiled. They have the most cups and are the most successful franchise next to the Yankees.
And yet, they act like it is their right to win. When they don't win, they act like babies. They boo their team at the drop of a hat. I have never seen any other fans from other teams boo their team off during the play-offs. EVER!
I think this ceremonial season went in one ear and out the other. To the Habs fans I say: Stop your crying, grow up and be proud of what the franchise has accomplished in the last 100 years.

Hey Guys, I am starting to like that NAH NAH NAH chant/song. After all, it is appropriate? Next Line HEY HEY HEY GOODBYE!!!
Pack up your Toilet Seat shirts and your little Toilet Seat flags. Another story has been added to your storied franchise history book. The last 13 years, I mean pages, have proven to be the best reading in the whole book.

Ahh the stats are not b****** as you expressed. They are actual. I can provide the site I found them at if you wish. The simple fact of the matter is that Montreal was in the middle of the road when it comes to man games lost. Every team has to deal with it. Some have the team to deal with it better than others. Take Colorado for example, do you think they expected to have Sakic, Stastny, and Smyth gone for any length of time??? Please.
Every team has to deal with injuries. Some or more impactful than others. I was simply stating that the post from the guest was not accurate in that he or she stated that Montreal missed more man games then most teams. That is inaccurate. |

Ahh but this was the point i was trying to get at. I was not not arguing the accuracy of the stats but more the point you tried to prove with them. Take your example, Colorado. Yes they lost Sakic, Stastny, and Smyth and were absolutely crippled by it finishing with the third worst record in the league instead of being a potential contender for a playoff spot.
Obviously all teams have to fight through injuries. And I'm not trying to make the excuse "the habs would've won the cup without these injuries". I'm just saying they were a huge factor in montreal poor playoff performance.
I personally don't think the habs had the team to win the cup regardless of what they accomplished last season. I just don't appreciate leafs fans who bash my team for a horrible ending to a horrible season when theirs is laughable at best. God... you guys cant even lose properly |

Leafs fans can't lose properly? Huh? What does that mean? Leafs season is laughable, Montreal season horrible? Is there a difference?
By the way, losing properly is not booing National Anthems, not booing your team, not picking on your goalies, not making fun of Hall of Famers during a game, not throwing stuff on the ice after a loss. Shall I go on?
Oh yes, not vandalizing your city, when you win or lose. Not rioting when your players get suspended.... |

You know, when a team you abhor almost since birth, and that was many moons ago, gets trounced and humiliated while humiliating itself at the same time, it is almost as deeply enjoyable as kocking off the Nottawa Senators from the playoffs every time the Leafs have played them. I can't help but feel truely blessed and totally elated that the Bostonians swept the goombahs from Montreal four straight. It is almost euphoric to tell you the truth!!! I think we can put to rest all that Hab superiority crap that we have been subjected to over the years and parcel it up for the cat to bury in it's sandbox. Let's face it, last Cup in '93? Great fans too? Are you kidding me? Please Hab fans, close your toilet seats quietly and we will all rest in peace. Nah Nah Nah, Hey Hey Hey.............Goodbye............... |

"Take off, eh?" - Bob and Doug
exactly Lang was brought in to be solid secondary scoring his usual 20 goals and 50 points,,,, Tanguay though did have a good season while he played but him and kovalev should be up in at least the 75 point range period.... i said this last year Carbo is a bad coach and Gainy a worse GM last year went well njsut because everything clicked,, i would almost call it a fluke... and again noone remembers but PRICE was in the minors last year when Huet won player of the month two straight months and rocketed the habs into 2nd place,, then we dish him off we let Ryder go and look how they both turned out,, and what were we missing among a lot of things scoring (a proven 30 goal scorer) and expirenced goaltending (huet is no superstar but is consistent and steady and has moments of brilliance)
