Rumours say that Patrick Roy is being offered the avalanche job of not just coach but coach and GM. Is this the best choice for the avs? Can he handle both the jobs? Thoughts?

Yeah i just read about the same offer in Colorado.. I also am with you there. Colorado is the best fit for him!!!! Where do you think their current head coach Granato will go?? No way Roy goes to Habs.

I heard about Colorado offering him both positions, but I never read/heard anything about Montreal offering him a job...
I would question the decision to hire Pat Roy for Gm. As far as I know, he has 0 experience building an NHL team. Can he handle contracts, and balancing budgets and things like that... he seems to be more of a coach, a players type of person, as opposed to a number cruncher and an architect of a team.
He won the memorial cup recently, so he has proven he can coach a team and win. I know he would come into the Avs room with a ton of respect, but I would suggest easing him in with an assistants role, ala carbonneau, or if it was for the gm position, like Nieuwendyk is doing in Toronto.
I can see him being a coach, but not a Gm.
we shall see.

What is it lately with these celebrity coaches and GMs? I really can't see how this is going to work out as anything other than a PR move for the Avalanche to boost fan interest after a woefully disappointing year.
Moves like this are bush league, in my mind.

Slozo I think that there are many GM's and Coaches in the league that have played hockey before and have done well. Look at Bob Ganey in 99 he won the cup with the dallas stars. Savard who played for the Habs became there GM and won the cup like 5 or 6 times so there are many famouse hockey players who own, GM and Coach a team and do good Look at Mario in Pitt or Yzerman in Dertiot or even Scott stevens in NJ they all got Jobs with there teams and have done very well. So dont talk about What is it lately with these celebrity coaches and GMs. Many famouse Hockey players have come back behind the bench and even upstaris and have done well. |

Bobby Clarke deserves some respect here. You think any team wanted to play in Phily when he coached here. He brought hardwork and hardknocks back to the Flyers. |
