I wish he would have got that cup though, he just had awesome character. Always a buzz when he was around and hell of a player in his day. |

The next question would be, is Roenick HOF material. We all know that is big mouth brought enormous attention to the NHL but do his stats warrant a call to the HOF. Roenick collected 513 goals and 1,216 in 1,363 games. I know its better than some guys already in the hall. But it is not as good as some others who are not. He does not have a cup, nor any major hardware, and has only 9 all star appearances and he also never made 1st or 2nd all star teams during his 20 years. |

He'll probably get in for putting up those numbers while being an American born player. |

There is absolutely no question that Roenick will be in the HOF. First ballot, first opportunity. He was a top 5 player in the league for a decade. He was in a small group with the likes of Lindros, LeClair, Stevens, etc that was completely physically dominant in the period of hockey know for physical hockey players.
Roenick is one of the best of all time. He we definitely be in the Hall. |

Lindros don't belong anywhere near the HOF, except for maybe a guest

Different Thread if you want to discuss Lindros. This one is about Roenick.

The question begs then- what about Dino Ciccarelli, Guy Carboneau, Steve Larmer, Doug Wilson, Bernie Nicholls, Rick Vaive, and so many more who many believe to be in the top the league during their prime (not all as point getters but as players). These guys are certainly comparable to Roenick. I personally believe Ciccarelli and Carboneau to be better than Roenick and deserve a nod before him. I am not going to research players with comparable stats because I am sure I will find a few but I would but a few in the Hall before JR. In my opinion he was a good player for 5 or 6 years of his career, then just a big loud mouth who used that gimmick to stay in the game for the last 5 years. He should have retired 5 years ago. |

I tend to think that Roenick was the best american forward (not counting Hull of course.... maybe lafointaine would have something to say about that), so that might get him in, but he really wasn't a superstar. He really only had 3 -4 years where his points were in the upper escehlon. He did play physically and I like the guy, but to me he is a real border line call.
I tend to think the Hall is a little watered down, so it wouldn't surpirse me if he got in and I wouldn't be too upset if he did. I just don't quite regard him as one of the greats. |
