What is wrong with Daniel Alfredsson? There were rumors yesterday that he was on the block, and now today I am hearing that we are looking to bring in someone to play with him. Craig Conroy of all people was mentioned... I say bad idea and I don't think he is the answer. Alfie has so much skill he is bound to turn it on sooner or later.
I would actually love to see him dealt. I think it would wake the team up. Ottawa fans have been losing patience with him because of his struggles like these and his failure to perform in the post-season. I think he needs to go for the same reasons that Thornton needed to leave Boston.
Just imagining something.... Alfredsson (and a youngster) for Datsyuk??? That would be a blockbuster deal and it would wake both teams up. It just might be what they need.
I would love to see it. I dont think Detroit would go for it though. Datsyuk is young adn Alfie is old. You are probably right that it would probably take a youngster too. Maybe Meszaros?
"Some people skate to the puck. I skate to where the puck is going to be." ~Wayne Gretzky
I wouldnt mind seeing that either, but you're right...it won't happen unless Detroit gets someone back like Meszaros, Eaves, and/or a 1st rounder.
I had this theory the other night...tell me if I'm way off but: Put yourself in Alfie's shoes...one minute you're the team leader, top scorer, the guy everyone wants to talk to after the game....then we start hearing about Spezza and how he's the future of the team. Then you deal for Heatley. All of a sudden, you're not even top dog on your own LINE. Spend some time back and forth between the second line and top line...lose any ounce of confidence you once had. Last year's playoffs were a nightmare for him...expected to contribute once in a while, but every finger in the rink is pointing at him when they get knocked out of the playoffs? Where was Alfredsson? Why didn't HE score?
