What is happening? Do we miss Chara and Smolinski that much? The room is rumored to be a finger pointing party and our leader is not stepping up. Our goalie is awful, and our backup is hurt. What changes do you think need to be made?

Man, I don't even know what is happening. We're not getting any secondary scoring, but the top line is finally picking it up. Gerber is a sieve, I've been skeptical since day 1 about that guy. It's really too bad we didn't go after one of the Big 4 out West (Giggy/Byrzgalov/Nabokov/Toskola). Priessing and Corvo were really nice additions with the loss of Chara, so I really can't justify blaming the defense. Or maybe it's the coaching? Has Murray lost the room?

About time. The Sens finally won. And Redden actually did something. I hope they will keep it up. |

Ouch. Rough night for the Sens. In a division game too.

I've always had a weird vibe about Murray, since day 1... maybe it's the lisp. I have a tough time believing that some players don't burst out laughing when he's yelling at them during practice, "You're thuposed to prethure the puck... puck prethure ith the firtht thtep in killing penaltieth".
First off, gotta build up from the goaltender, and Gerber is underachieving like a mofo. Not altogether too surprising that an Senators team is underacheiving... just be glad it's happening at the beginning of the season and not the playoffs.
This team has all the tools, and with all that firepower up front they shouldn't even have to worry about Gerber poopin' the bed every night. I say, fire Murray and get a fire lit under the asses of the whole team... not just pockets of scoring from the guys who should be doing it anyways. |

Slapshots from the faceoff circle? Dump-ins from the blue line? Can you stop ANYTHING?

Seems to me like there is too many "stars" and not enough guys actually willing to do the work. Gerber is having a horrible start but then maybe some of the other guys need to step up and help out remember its a team game and sure a goalie can win a game for you but it takes a team to lose. |

How come no one is talking about the absence of Chara? Ottawa's problem is clearly in their defence. Redden hasn't done much of anything this year. I know saying that they are losing beacuse Chara is gone is kind of a scapegoat; but when a team scores 3-4 goals a game & still loses............& of course there is Gerber's performance, or lack there of.

I just had to say, thanks man! I've been chuckling at that since I first read it about three hours ago. It's horrible and terribly un-PC. But thanks for saying what I've been thinking!! |

Redden hasn't been scoring, but he's been taking care of his own end...in any of the games I've seen, anyway! Losing Chara was bad, yes, but getting 2 quality D-men in Priessing and Corvo should more than offset that big behemoth! Maybe years of high expectations is finally taking it's toll on these guys...who knows?
I still put at least 75% of this on Gerber and/or the coaches expectations on him. Let's end this project, name Emery the starter, and put the Swiss Miss on the bench...or in Binghamton, where he belongs.

I think Corvo was a nice addition but I'm not at all satisfied with Preissing's play. And, as much as I think Redden is over-rated, he would certainly be a big help if he was actually healthy.
Gerber is not playing the same style as he did last year for some reason (whether that's his own doing or Ottawa's coaching staff trying to teach him a different way - I don't know) From a technical point of view that's his first problem, which leads to confidence issues and then sieve-like performance. Of all the positions I think confidence is most crucial for a goaltender.
Finally, I think this slump might be a good thing for the Senators. For too many years they've waltzed through the regular season blowing away competition with virtually no adversity and then crumbled in the playoffs blaming injuries, or bad luck, or good goaltending on the other team or whatever. Maybe this year they are learning what it truly takes to win hockey games without relying on talent alone. And for this to happen early in the season rather than later is a very good thing ... assuming they learn their lesssons soon enough and actually MAKE the playoffs!

I've never hated the Senators, and nor was I Leaf fan when I lived in Toronto for 3 years... but it's a travesty what happens to their teams year after year. Almost a bad luck thing.
Plus, Redden's been somewhat injured this year as well, and it's not like they could predict the future and believe that the loss of Chara could have had such a huge impact. I mean, out West here we're realizing that the loss of an all-star blueliner leaves quite a significant hole in a team, regardless of who you put in there to fill the void... unless of course that void filler is Chris Pronger.
Hopefully the Sens pick it up, but it's a case of their management being somewhat of a lame-duck, not really doing anything and hoping things will get better before making any changes. I mean, I personally wouldn't rush trading or even thinking about trading any one of Spezza, Heatley or Alfredsson. That team is stacked, and under this salary cap system that's a true win in itself.
I think they'll manage to work the kinks out with the current lineup. |

The Sens need to gain confidence, and Redden is costing be a batch of points for sitting out. |
