I voted Bruins. They have the most complete team in the Northeast by far. Solid D. Solid Keeper. Solid Forwards. I think that they will finish as high as first in the East.

NE Division rankings
1.Boston Bruins 1st in East
2.Montreal Canadiens 7th in East
3.Ottawa Senators 8th in East
4.Toronto Maple Leafs 9th or 10th
5.Buffalo Sabres 12th

well if the Leafs play in the Regular Season like they did in the pre season they should be the top team in the NHL... But of course they'll have to do something about Toskala he's brutal.... Play Gustavsson more

...And the LEAFS Win the CUP

And if the Canucks play like they did in the pre-season they will have a 200 point regular season then win the cup in 4 straight sweeps, but one can dream.

you sure can dream for the canucks(and for the leafs), but no offense, it's impossible a 200 points season. at least Hanley's statement is "probable".

for the subject matte, my hearts says montreal, my head says Boston

I'm really surprised that it's not over 80% for Boston. They lost Kessel, but other than that, the team is basically unchanged, and they are already very deep for scoring.

I suppose anything can happen, but I really don't see Montreal as a top contender, at most they went sideways. And frankly, it'd have to be a total miracle season, combined with a Boston collapse, for any of Toronto, Ottawa or Buffalo to win the northeast.

I think any other vote other than Boston this year is a "homer" vote.

Totally agree here Slozo. While not a "homer" for any of these teams, i've never liked the Bruins as i grew up with a Hab loving father, however, i picked the Bruins in the poll. I mean, the poll does ask which team WILL win and not which team i WANT to win right? Can never understand how some will pick their favorite team in a poll like this? I mean, does Buffalo really have 3 votes?

ya i went with boston on this one too, they are the logical answer. I can understand people voting for ottawa, they actually look pretty good. i think both spezza and alfie will have good years, and i really hope michalek and cheechoo will play well there. kovalev was inconsistent, but i think he was a good pickup for this team. and now that i think they've found their coach in clouston, look for them to have a pretty good year. still dont see them beating boston though

Guess I'm a Homer because I did pick Ottawa. Like you said Boston is pretty much the same team except Kessel and (Fernandez) which you didnt mention. My biggest thing is I dont think they improved at all and lost quite a bit. Kessel took the pressure off everyone of the other scorers and hasn't been replaced at all.

The biggest question mark is can Thomas play a full season without a good backup like Fernadez. Boston did not effectively replace him eitherIts surprising but he is a 32 year old goalie who is now peeking but has never been the #1 goalie and played more than 54 games in a year with a winning record. It has been a knock on him for the last 3-4 years he cant win back to back games, he need to rest between games.

On a side note did you know even Bostons team website hasn't replace Kessel, he still shows up on there roster. Even the web guy can replace Kessel.

Your right in that Boston can't replace Kessel, but they can replace 30 of his goals with their 2007\08 leading goal scorer Marco Sturm. He missed almost all of last year and is ready to go. Also I think they have a very good Goalie prospect in Tukka Rask. I think hell get 20 to 30 starts this year. We'll see if he can live up to the expectations Boston management have of him.

I agree in that they may not get 116 pts again but I cant see them doing less than 100 this year and that should be enough to take the division.

The Bruins should definitely be the front runners. I could see one of the other teams be the surprise in this division though.

Yeah, I was going to pipe up about Sturm coming back injury free. And, Krejci and Wheeler's goal totals could and should easily go upwards, great young players with lots of upside. Other rookies may also fill in for scoring, like Bitz. And on goaltending, I agree about Thomas, but Rask is ready to be a solid back-up. Besides, a back-up goaltender is the easiest thing to pick up on a moment's notice.

And holy crap the Bruins are scary big. Frankly, with their defence, they don't need any 40 goal scorers. They are very deep anyway with scoring, with about 8 guys who can get over 20 goals this year, and at least one or two should get to thirty or close.

I didn't say Ottawa by a mile and I am not suggeting Boston is going to fall apart. I always have a problem with a team without a proven #2 goalie and anytime you lose your best goal scorer, you dont always have a pickup from the remainder of the team. Sometimes the opposition can isolate your best lines better when you lose depth, the whole team loses because that great player does not get the focus of the opponents best shutdown players. With regards to Sturm, he is a good player, but somebody is going to be on the injury list this year as well. Not everyone stays healthy.

I still say the depth is there in Ottawa which they more than replaced the outgoing talent and bolstered there goaltending. The question mark in Ottawa is Offensive talent on the D-men cause most of the defenseman in Ottawa are either 2way or stay at home defensemen. I am aloud to have my opinion and my opinion would be Ottawa #1 in NE. and Boston #2

First, new avatar.. Heatley is a Shark Second .. Boston has a more then capable back up in rask lol dont even worry about that, and nor am I anything close to a Bruins fan I'm just stating the obvious. Ottawa very well could win the division by chance but lets be real... today, this day, Boston, Montreal and heck possibly even Toronto would beat Ottawa. Kessel only had 36 goals and 60 pts, not that hard to replace so lets get real here, he wasn't even close to one of the main players for the B's.

Boston

There's too many question marks about Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal. And Buffalo will finish at the bottom.

. . . and that's exactly it: besides Boston, the other teams are too weak. If someone came to me and said that with a "perfect" season, Montreal could end up finishing ahead of a faltering Boston, I'd say sure, it's possible. A perfect season for Ottawa, Toronto, Buffalo? Maybe second in the division.

You can have your opinion, Joshua - but it's no coincidence that you are a Sens fan, and that you are going against every single prognostication I have seen so far and predicted, by chance, your team to do well above what can be expected of them.

Besides, you know you want to see Beans with a Leafs avatar during the playoffs . . . and that means Ottawa finishes third or fourth, behind Boston and Toronto!

I don't know. I think people are looking at Ottawa as a pushover since they had the weak season last year. But were they not the hotest team in the NHL over the last 20 games last year?? That was without a #1 goalie and with a disgruntled Heatley. Also throw in Kovalev and the young player with another year under their belt?? Michalek is a nice add and Phillips and Volchenkov are brilliant shut down guys.

I think they are being under rated. Granted, I agree that Boston is the cream of this crop, I put Ottawa easily as the 2nd best team in this division. They will also have the benefit of spanking the Leafs 6 times this year. An easy 12 points for the Sens!

You best warm up that Oiler Avatar Slozo. Put it on and see how it fits. Make sure it's the right size as you will be wearing it for a while!

Beans, i don't think anyone many here are saying Ottawa won't improve and perhaps even come 2nd, but the division title? I mean, yeah, it's possible, but for a fan to come on here and say he actually thinks Ottawa will win the division, that's absurd. Yes, everyone's entitled to their opinion, but i'd be giving you the same response if you told me you voted for the Oilers to win their division. Possible, yes, but c'mon......

I wouldn't say it's completely absurd to think that Boston will not be as good this year as last year. So if Ottawa is the 2nd best team in the division and Boston slips????

I mean, take nearly 40 goals away with Kessel. Krejci is injured and won't be back for a little while. And one has to remember that Thomas and Chara both had best in league performances in their positions last year. What's the odds of that repeating?? How many rookies were on the team last year?? Some are bound to have a sophmore slump.

Now again, I agree that Boston is the best team in the division on paper but it a very long season and many thing could happen. Look at Markov last night going down for 4 months. How well would Boston function if they lost Savard, Chara, or Thomas for any length of time.

I agree Boston is the team, but absurd is a pretty strong word. Unlikely yes. Absurd, no.

Ok, Ok. 6 games does not make a season, but I think someone has egg on his face, hhuummmmm.

This team has some legs and my prediction stand so ppppllleeeewwww(rasberry).
