Was watching a bit of the Sens/Lightning game and couldn't help but notice that someone in TBay better sit Steve Downie down and have a talk with him. The so called "code" out there says that you don't continue to throw punches at a guy once you're (or you both) are on the ice (no longer standing). The exact example came up recently with Iginla did it not. The class act he is, didn't continue to pummel his prey.....
Anyway, end of the second period and the refs have Downie and Phillips somewhat tied up. Downie continues to throw punches through the refs grasp and also tries a few more once they're both taken to the ice. He does the same thing in the 3rd when he ends up getting beaten up by Carkner. Both on the ice and the punk that he is, continues to try to land a blow.
Gonna learn the hard way....

No, he won't. This is the same guy who decapitated Dean McAmmond in a preseason game a few years ago and didn't think there was a problem with it. Even after his 20 game suspension. This is the same guy who, after getting sent down to the AHL, received an indefinate suspension(turned out to be 20 games) for physically abuse of an official.
110 pro games(AHL and NHL), 68 points (18 in the NHL), and 40 games in suspensions.
Guys like this never learn. When he finally runs out of chances in hockey, he will be the guy at the bar getting in fights with college kids to show everyone how tough he is.
He's just a tool. |

Beans, good points! Downie was so fun to cheer here in Vancouver during the '06 WJC's but i can't stand him for his actions since! Wasn't he the one that Jack (or was it Eric) Johnson took out with a knee on knee hit that year in the WJC?
Guest 4629... YEAH, i'm serious, it's not a bar fight, like the ones Beans has predicted Downie will find himself in one day sooner than later, it's a hockey fight. There's "unwritten rules" and if they're not followed, he'll get his due..... Guys don't forget. Class goes a long way in the NHL and Iginla's the latest example of how to show it! |

Downie is a complete tool like Beans said.
Same as a lot of goons in the NHL.
I haven't met Downie personally, but I've run into guys like him . . . Belak, for instance, The arrogance and outright bully attitude is really something to behold when you see it in "real life" . . . it's completely flabbergasting, seriously.
He'll be out of the NHL in a year or two, he doesn't even have enough brain cells to last much longer than that. And, most probably, he'll seriously put a crimp in some star player's career before he is pushed out . . .
Yet another reason properly enforce no fighting.
