Ok the two biggest franchises in NHL history are without captains. I was just wondering who do you think will be the next one. It's hard to chose a captain in those cities because of the history there. And also there's so many new guys in both teams.
In Toronto at first I thought Beauchemin and Komisarek were gonna be contenders. But Komisarek is always in the box and Beauchemin is making mistakes after mistakes. Schenn could be the next one but only in 3 or 4 years from now. So I think it leaves to Stajan, Blake or Kaberle. Stajan and Blake doesn't have the star status (which seems so important in todays NHL) and Kaberle would be more of the quiet captain. I have no clue who should get it here. Or maybe Ian White.
All right in Montreal, the captain Koivu is gone, Komisarek and Kovalev were runner up to take over and they're gone. Markov is their best player but he's really quiet and plus he doesn't speek much english, nevermind french. They are talking about Gionta right now. I think maybe Hamrlik could be a runner up also. Who do you think should be captain on both these teams? I say White or Blake and Gionta or Lapierre.

It's hard to pick a guy when you're not around the teams, at their practices, meals, etc, in the dressing room, on the ice....etc
I say, TO's in a rebuilding stage, hand the C to Schenn. I just don't know though, is the kid mature enough to take it and handle the pressure in a city like Toronto? It comes with having to do extra interviews, more commitments, etc. Maybe they don't wanna hang that on a young kid in that market? I'd understand if that was the reason why. Put Schenn in say, Carolina, i'd bet in the same situation, he'd already be wearing it?
As for the Habs, same thing, don't know all the details but i'd see no surprise if it were Gionta or Lapierre from what i've heard. Maybe even Camallerri? I did hear they offered it to Markov at the outset and he declined? |

As a habs fan, I'm glad they didnt hand it to Markov, doesn't seem like the type to hold the captaincy, even though he is their most important player. Gionta seems to have the qualities of a captain, but kudos to them for not just giving it to him right away. You have to earn it.
As for Toronto, jeez its a bit of a nightmare at the moment. Stajan, Blake or Kaberle are all brutal choices. Blake seems like a guy his own teammates hate, Stajan wouldnt crack the second line on any other team and Kaberle seems too quiet for the role. If Komisarek matures a little more I could see him wearing the C, but if I were toronto I wouldnt give it to anyone until next season, or whenever Wilson is fired, whichever comes first. |

I bet Toronto rotates captaincy until next year, when Schenn will inherit the role . . . unless Schenn doesn't start to play better, that is - and he has started to play less horribly than he started out this season.
Montreal, I don't know as well, but I'd guess Gionta or Lapierre - depending on how well Lapierre plays this season.

The Habs did hand it to Markov, and he handed it right back, said he didnt want to be captain.
