Beans Im coming to Edmonton to watch the Oil play the Caps. I am wondering if you can suggest an area to stay in that allows me to get to the rink in a easy fasshion, get to the West Edm. Mall, and maybe near a few decent resturants and Bars.

Any Sugestions?

T Bar, if you stay downtown there are many restaurants/bars and hotels. You can take the LRT to the game and the mall very easily and it is cost effective (cheaper than a cab). You can find the LRT stations on the web and pick a hotel near one of them. I don't live in Edmonton but when I go to a game that's what I do. Beans may have a better idea or more details though.

Wow, that's interesting. Access to West Ed Mall and the Stadium is not very easy without a car as they West Ed is on the West end(ironic isn't ist) and Rexall place is the North East.

However, Rexall is on the LRT route (public transit train) and it is BY FAR the best way to get in and out of Rexall. It would cost you a total of $5 for a return ticket from any LRT station. Furthermore, the LRT will take you to the University which has reasonable proximity to Whyte ave where the trendy Bars/Pubs are. There are also 4 stops on the LRT along Jasper Ave where there are also pubs and restaurants. There is a 2 block area around 109 st that has about 10 pubs/clubs.

It really depends on what kind of money you are looking to spend on the hotels. If you can afford it, I would suggest a few places downtown. The Delta Centre Suite Hotel is actually attached to City Centre Mall. There is an LRT station assessable from inside that Mall and there is a decent pub there as well. The Matrix is also 3 blocks from a LTR stop. The Westin is also downtown and close to everything. I have no idea what the room rates are, but there are a little more than your regular holiday inn.

From downtown you are looking at about an hour long bus ride or a $20ish dollar cab ride.

If you are renting a car or driving, I would still recommend downtown but really anywhere is fine. Edmonton is extremely easy to get around and really have about 6 main roads that will get you anywhere. If you are cabbing it, spend the extra money on staying downtown as save the money on cabs. A cab from the airport is $50ish. Don't know about a shuttle, but I know there is a direct shuttle from Delta City Centre to the International Airport.

However, would strongly suggest taking the train to the game regardless of have a car or not. You can get there faster, cheaper ($12+ to park over the $5 for the train), have a few pops, and then head to various bars/pubs after the game.

Let me know if there is anything else I can help with. Depending on how old you are and your tastes, I could recommend some nice drinking and eating spots.

Hey I appreciate the input guys.

What do you think of the Sutton Place Hotel?

As far as bars goes we would probably be looking at something for the 25-30 age range perferably not to far from downtown.

Sutton Place would work just fine. 2-3 blocks from just about anything, including the LRT.

25-30, anywhere on Whyte ave would work for you. $10ish cab ride from Sutton Place. There is also Lux or Lazia in the City Centre Mall that might treat you well for a dinner/drinks kind of place. Clubs downtown would be Oil City Roadhouse, The Bank, and the Globe. There are also some more pubish type clubs like the Druid and Prohibition that are a little further down Jasper Ave.

I'll compile and list and a map and send you an e-mail in the next couple of days.
