Poll Question:
All things being equal, most would say that at the end of the year, Ovechkin will once again win the Rocket Richard trophy (without any more injuries or long suspensions).
There are some familiar names atop the goal scoring leaders, and many surprises as well . . . Who will come in second?

I'd have to say the biggest surprise is Crosby, who is tied for goals with Ovechkin (although he's played 8 more games). With a slumping Malkin, can Crosby keep on scoring his way to second best perhaps? I don't think so myself, but I also didn't think Crosby would be sitting at 20 goals before Christmas, and here we are at Dec 8th . . .
Gaborik, I'd have to think, is going to pull a groin at some point, and he can't keep up this level for much longer.
I am going to say it'll be between Heatley and Kovalchuk, and that eventually Heatley will come in second . . . a distant second, I might add.

If Thornton keeps dishing the puck equally to Heatley and Marleau (they are tied in points right now, in fact they have the same amount of goals and assists) it could be a tight finish but I voted Heatley. I think if Gaborik can stay healthy all year he may even beat Ovie in goals (not likely though), he seems to actually be enjoying hockey more so than ever and has developed some great chemistry with his line mates, especially Prospal. A couple players that have really suprised me so far this year are Dustin Penner and Steven Stamkos, they could both be in the top ten at the end of this year.

I agree if Gaborik can stay healthy he has a strong shot at second if not first but if his injury troubles return it'll be heatley or Marleu.
There's a lot of dirty old occ's around thats the problem |

Heatley is my vote. But I will say this, never count Crosby out... even when it comes to the goal scoring race.

I went with Crosby here. I'm actually not surprised that he's at 20goals before christmas, a good number of those goals are absolutely brilliant. I could see him in second.
There's also a really strong case to be made for Heatley though.
And Gaborik could theoretically thump Ovie as long as his legs don't fall off or his groin go on vacation. He's a scary guy when he's in your zone.
The arena wall in chicago should be credited with a goal. |

Season is still young. Gonna go out on a limb and say 2nd best goal scorer is gonna be OVIE's teammate SEMIN |

I see no reason Marleau can't get 2nd or even the Richard Trophy. This is after all a contract year and he is finally playing on the #1 line. Marleau has always had the talent he just never had the linemates before. |
