           	| hey i was just thinking to myself and i started to think about the playoffs and how 2 eastern conference teams or 2 western conference teams cannot meet in the stanley cup finals and i have a solution to this.
1st of east plays 8th of west
1st of west play 8th of east
2nd of east plays 7th of west
2nd of west plays 7th of east.
 and so on...
i no this would not gaurantee 2 easts or 2 wests but i think it would make the playoffs more competitive but i have taken into account that it would be hard for say a team like vancouver to play a team like tampa etc. because of the time change but i think it would be cool to see this.

                      | cool idea to think about, but i dont see this happening (at least any time soon). like u pointed out the time change could b a problem but also the travel involved as well. As for right now i think the playoffs are fine as they are right now.

                      | I'm not sure this is a problem. Time zone change is pretty irrelevant. One thing I would like to see though is the top seeds get to pick their opponents.
Say San Jose wins the west and say Detroit finishes 8th. It would be cool if San Jose could pick the LA Kings or something who may end up finishing higher, but San Jose feels they have a bigger advantage over.

Certain teams have a bigger edge against certain opponents, and this would give a ton of incentive to the teams that get picked even when they aren't the lower seed.

                      | I would certainly not mind seeing East vs West match-ups during the playoffs (besides the Stanley Cup final).
I have thought of this before, similar to your situation. But I can not determine what would be the best way to implement this just yet.

I do believe it would add better match-ups during the playoffs, and the final result may allow for the true top two teams in the finals.

 Perhaps something like:

 East1 vs West8 -- West1 vs East8
 East2 vs East7 -- West2 vs West7
 East3 vs East6 -- West3 vs West6
 East4 vs West4 -- West5 vs East5

This way we still have the potential East/West rivals, but we also allow for cross-conference match-ups. This will also allow for an East-East, or West-West finals.

(I think I covered all 16 teams properly there. It got a little confusion at a glance, but it's really not as confusing as it seems. lol.)

                      | You might as well seed the teams 1-16 regardless of conference and have the playoffs that way- 1 vs 19, 2 vs 15, etc.
This would certainly give a mix of West vs West and East vs East but also East vs West.

It'd be interesting but I don't see that ever actually happening.
