Daniel Sedin is on his way to LA. It's not 100% certain he will dress for game 4, but he must be close to ready.
Will it be enough to give the Canucks a boost?

Posted - 04/16/2012 : 09:42:57 I agree, the Hodgson factor is very minor in regards to where the Canucks find themselves today. He was a 2nd unit PP guy and with the Canucks, the 2nd unit often plays very little because the Sedin's play such a puck possesion game. It's so easy to say that Hodgson would have had goals or points but let's face it, he too would be facing the same J. Quick that his former teammates are! It's not like the Canucks aren't producing chances.
As for Gillis, i'm pretty sure he's not going anywhere and i'm happy with that. AV on the other hand, i can't see him keeping his job without a miracle comeback. I said before the playoffs that he needs to get back to the final or he's likely toast. I don't put all the blame on him, but i don't like some of the moves he's made either and perhaps it's time for a change. Wonder if it will be MacT? |

I say screw Lou make a statement the team is staying with Scnieder win or lose Lou needs a new employer.
The D Sedin injury is devastating but LA a couple of years ago put up a better fight without Kopitar than the current Van team and that was before they had Richards and Carter so you can't use that as an excuse.
I think the real problem and I know this will sound a little silly was the Cody Hodgson trade. Think about it, if we still had Hodgson I almost guarantee you the canucks would not be 0/15 or whatever it is on the PP. Cody made a 2nd unit effective but now the canucks only have one unit and Henrik can't get it done. One or two PP goals over these last few games could be the difference and maybe the series would be 2-1 LA or even 2-1 Van if Van had a timely goal or two scored or set up by Cody. Cody was even dangerous on the 4th line Manny can take defensive zone faceoffs Hodson could put the puck in the net on any goalie from the top of the circles. The canucks need a true sniper!
Fire Gillis first the Grabner and a 1st for Ballard trade and now a rookie of the year contender (before the trade) in Hodgson for a prospect sorry Gillis your OUT! The time for the canucks to win is now yet our GM is trading good players for prospects as if we are trying to re build.
The reason they went for Kazzian over Hodgson is because you need size to compete in the playoffs and Vancouver management probably pin pointed that as one of the reasons Boston was succsessful last year. I don't think it was a bad trade and it remains to be seen who will have the better career

Posted - 04/15/2012 : 12:16:22 Clatts, good point about the space between games, but the vibe i get is that he could be done for the year even. I guess with these concussion though, they're just totally unpredictable. I heard he seemed fine but had a setback after a good hard skate. This is similar to what Crosby went through and look how long he was out! Even a guy like Toews missed a couple months didn't he?
As for the goalie, i too think Shneider will get the start in an effort to do something to shake things up. If last game wasn't a must win, this one surely must be! |

word is they'll start Schneider. No fault to Luongo in either game, he was arguably the best Canuck on the ice in both, but they need to change something and swapping goalies is an easy one. |

Posted - 04/15/2012 : 01:19:07 So, it was announed tonight that Daniel Sedin will NOT be making the trip to LA for games 3 and 4 of the Kings / Canucks series. Certainly doesn't help the Canucks comeback chances and DEFINITELY makes anyone who claims Sedin and the Canucks were making the injury seem worse than it was, in an effort to get Keith a harsher suspension, look foolish! |

Absolutely. You cheer for your team through thick and thin. It sucks sometimes, but you keep cheering. Still, there's a difference between unreasonable expectations (say, for example, the Cup every year...) and being realistic about chances.
Apart from cheering for your own team, I, as I'm sure many others here, always appreciate great hockey - no matter who's playing. |

Posted - 04/14/2012 : 09:10:13 So far so good in Van as i see it. No fires reported, no looting, no signs of a riot whatsoever! Oh wait, it's not over? Cuz the way the Canucks are playing, it sure as hell should be!
I don't blame coaches often, and i can't claim to be better than him, but i didn't like his lineup changes at all. I liked what i saw from Lapierre on the top line late in the season. He chose Hansen there, who did score, so i'll give him that. I didn't like his insertion of Ballard. This guy hasn't played in months and he throws him into a must win game? I know he played pretty good with Tanev last year, but it still surprised me a bit. Their d was getting pounded the first game, why not get a guy like Alberts in there with some size??? I know he's not fast, but i think the Kings speed i keep hearing about around here is far overrated. EVERYTHING i heard leading up to this series was how Vancouver's skating would be the difference, not LA's! They have some big forwards, and i'm not saying they're slow, but i don't think Alberts would have been exposed any worse than the way the others are playing out there.
Def the PP is killing them like it did vs the Bruins last June. Having Daniel out doesn't help, but these guys are NHL calibre players and playing with the man advantage should net you at least a goal or 2 by now, not 2 against!
Things look really bleak. Sure they can come back. Would i put money (or my avatar) on it? NOPE. Am i making the bandwagon jump? Never! But it's times like this when expectations are so high, that it's awfully hard to be upbeat regarding your team! |

It seems to be both. Vancouver is playing so-so hockey, at least by their standards - lots of missed passes, not using open ice to their advantage, indecisive in the opposing end. However, LA is clearly playing a very good game as well. Their key guys are stepping up, they're playing a good defensive game, and Quick is sharp (46 shots last night).
I missed the last few weeks of the season, but even before I went on vacation, it was obvious that things were not going well in Canuck land. The PP has been virtually non-existent since February. The PK has been struggling since about the same time. The Sedin's had struggled, and all the main forwards had gone through long scoring slumps. Luongo was up and down (although I have to say, he was the best Canuck last night, several key saves at key times). All the things that have made VAN successful over the last couple of seasons were not ticking - and that is never good.
I don't know what to expect going forward. I agree with Beans that VAN has the ability to win 4 of the next 5, but the way they're playing right now and the way LA is playing, it doesn't seem likely. Game 3 is as "must win" as they come - the Canucks are a very good road team, so maybe getting out on the road is what they need. |

I watched most of the game and it was a really great back and forth battle. IMO, this game came down to special teams. LA scored 2 goals on the PK(both by Dustin Brown, remember all the trade talk involving this guy) and another on the PP. I don't think you will see many W's when a team is -2 on their PP!
It really is that in a nut shell. Vancouver has not scored on 10 PP changes, have allowed 2 SH goals, and have given up 3 goals on their PK.
Mike Richards was an absolute beast and the LA forwards continued to beat on the Vancouver defense. Ballard looked horrible most of the time he was on the ice. On the flip side, Vancouver is taking every opportunity to try to crash the net and get something going after the whistle to try to knock the Kings off their game. I don't think it's working as I watched Doughty literally laughing an Hansen when Hansen was going bananas.
Luongo looked great all night with the exception of the Trevor Lewis goal. It is likely Schneider will start in LA but not because Luongo is not playing well. I almost feel bad for the guy. If he played on another team I would certainly feel bad for him.
It goes without saying that Van is in big trouble. I know they have the chops to win 4 of the next 5 games but against a very physical (and confident) LA team and likely without Daniel Sedin for the series, I think it's all but over already.
The Chicago Blackhawks beat the Canucks in these playoffs without even playing them.........

Yup, i have to agree. The penalties they took def had a bearing on the game, even if LA only got one PP goal. Taking into consideration the number of PP's and the length of the two 5 on 3's, i think the Canucks would be happy walking out of that game with just 1 PP goal against! BUT, the fact is, those penalties kept their top player parked on the bench for much of the first 2 periods. H. Sedin ended up with 20 mins of TOI but much of that (8 mins or so) was in the final frame. This, along with having no consistent flow to their game, was affected by those penalties, even if the Kings PP didn't kill them.
Also, if the Canucks PP had scored a goal or 2, the outcome could easily have been different. They scored at a 23% clip during the season yet failed to score in 5 chances last night.
All in all, the better team on the night won. Simple as that. Bad, bad, bad for Vancouver to waste a very good performance by Luongo!!!
Also, not a mention around here (unless it's in another thread) about the Bitz hit? Bad hit, will be suspended seeing as not only is he easy to suspend, but Clifford will miss at least a game they say and maybe more. Suspension worthy and will prob get him 2-3 games i'm guessing? |

Also I have always been a fan of Chicago and Boston but a lot of people I know are from Van or B.C. and cheer for them. Makes for some interesting bets and if L.A. beats them first round which I think L.A. deserves, than I will be more proud a Canadian than if Van takes home the Cup. Also I think a first round exit will show Van's fans/GM/coaches/players that something needs to be done before they hit the basement floor. In which case they will finally realize they should just trade Luongo. I dont care if he had an excellent game. He usually does at home. The things they could do though if they traded him would make them president worthy.

Posted - 04/12/2012 : 08:32:24 Really great point on using game one as a prediction. I would not bet against any of the teams who lost their games last night.
The thing that surprised me the most in the Van/LA game was how badly the Canucks defense was physically outplayed by the Kings forwards. The Kings have some very big, fast, and ill-tempered forwards that can clearly dominate when they want to. Even if LA doesn't win the series, this might be trouble for the Canucks in the long run. The last this that team needs is a banged up defensive core after the first round.
