LA will be a tough team to beat but Vancouver gets this in 7. Experience and home ice advantage. |

The Kings just cannot score to save their lives, despite getting some pieces at the deadline. Plus, Dough-boy took a big step back this year, production-wise.
The Canucks need their secondary scoring to come alive, but still, as long as Luongo doesn't fall apart, Canucks should have this in five or six. |

Wow! Lunchbox, this post has me shaking my head. No, not just for the last bit about "as long as Luongo doesn't fall apart" either . The Kings have outscored the Canucks since the trade deadline where both teams made bold moves! Doughty had a slow start, but if you've seen the Kings in the past couple months, you may have noticed that Doughty has looked much more like the guy from a couple seasons ago than the guy who took a step backwards. Also, remember that the slow start could definitely have been impacted by his late signing which saw him miss training camp!
I'm still picking the Canucks as i think the Kings are slow and that Vancouver can outskate them, but it's not gonna be a cake walk. |

I'm gonna admit that I haven't watched the Kings at all this year, I just know that Doughty didn't crack 40 points (or maybe just got there, not sure) and LA is pretty much last in the league in goals scored (albeit very low goals against as well). That's why I said if Canucks get the secondary scoring, it could be a short series. LA cannot seem to run and gun, despite the offensive names they added.
You're right about the better play of late from LA though, so we'll have to see, but I still say 5 or 6 games for the Canucks. I certainly wasnt calling for a 4 shutout sweep...even leaning towards six... |

This series scares me because of Quick. The one thing that the Canucks don't seem to be able to overcome easily is a hot goaltender - see last year vs both NSH (which they won in 6 games largely on a heroic effort by Kesler, but it was a close series) and BOS. If Quick has one of those magical runs, he could steal this series, he is certainly one of the best goaltenders in the NHL today. LA has more than enough firepower to score on VAN.
However, so long as Quick is his regular self, I see VAN taking this in 6 |

I think this could be a huge upset, myself. Everything is there for it: an underachieving regular season team in the LA Kings, who were picked by many to win their division this year and take a step forward; a great goalie; very solid defence; lots of playoff experience, and leadership now, with Richards there.
On top of the Kings perspective, we have the Canucks having Daniel Sedin out with a concussion (likely to return in the first couple of games though), and even though they finished out on a high note, LA is a team which has given Vancouver trouble in the past. Add in the mix the possibility of a goalie controversy that may be mostly media-driven but could certainly have an effect on the psyche of the players . . . and the unthinkable could happen for the Canucks here.
I'm picking the upset, LA in 6. Mike Richards is an unstoppable force, and Quick wins the series.

I see this going two ways...
Vancouver in 5 where they come out with a vengeance and Lou stops everything in sight...like he can!
OR Vancouver comes out flat letting the Kings take the play to them and the Kings win in 7 behind Quick.
Should be fun to watch! And since my Oil is golfing...Go Van/Go Sens!

Just read an article yesterday in the Vancouver paper. All the local insurance companies have put a hold on fire insurance until the playoffs are over. |

S'all good. ALL of us Vancouver fans are rioters you know, and we're so good at it that we've already come up with better ways to destroy things. Gasoline and fire is so yesteryear. While i can't fill you in too much, we're far more advanced and prepared this year. We're even distributing Brian Burke masks to the masses, making every effort to not just hide our identities, but to get Burkie in trouble too! That'll teach him to mess with our Sedin Sisters! Watch for me though, i'm gonna be the one with a mask making me look like a hot chick, i call it my FER's wife look. She's gonna take some of the heat this year too! |

I am picking Van in 6 on the strength of a team thats been there done that type feeling. I have a hard time betting against a returning finalist. LA although they have all the pieces and played well during stretches dont look like a team that can knock off the Canucks this year. They might scare them but I dont think can win a 7 game series with all the veterans and experience Vancouver has.
Either way should be a fun series to watch. Bet Schneider gets 2 games in the opening round. |

I am first and foremost a hockey fan. I have lived all over this country but I am now in Vancouver and have been a fan since I moved here. It always amazes me how many fans from Ontario (where I am from) like to crap on the Canucks. Just face it, they are without question the only top tier team in Canada. Just facts.
Anyone with a Leafs logo who is hating on the Canucks needs to take a good look in the mirror. I would like to see it change, but your team really sucks. They are an embarrassment. Once they change, I will be the first to defend them. The more competitive Canadian teams the better.
Canucks in 6. |

Just because the Canucks are the best team does not mean people have to like them.
If there is a Christmas tree full of empty boxes wrapped in newspaper and one box of crap wrapped is pretty wrapping paper, even though it might be the prettiest it still stinks and it's not the box that I want to open.
I know the Canucks are a better team than LA and I didn't bet against them. But I don't have to like them because they are a good hockey team.

VanderBay....
Just a quick note, it's pretty obvious that Vancouver is the top Canadian team right now, but to defend the Leaf faithful, i will say this...... One day, the Leafs will prob be better than the Canucks. I will still be a "hater" towards them more likely than not. So, i have no problem with any haters coming at the Canucks, as long as they're reasons are not totally off the board!!! To hear someone say they hate the Canucks cuz ALL THEIR FANS riot and are bandwagonners, etc is ludicrous and drives me nuts. That sort of thing......
By the way, welcome to PUH. |

Hey Alex, don't hurt yourself jumping off the bandwagon on your way to the riots.
By the way, I don't think LA has a hope against the Canucks. I can't stand them. But I think that the Canucks can win the Cup with a little bit of luck in the health department.

Although they lead early 1-0, the Canucks look anything but good thus far. Ironically, it's Luongo who looks awesome thus far. Him, and the Kings so far are the story. Oh, and one Vancouver goal that prob shouldn't have counted!!!! |

the canucks caught a break on the goal; kesler made some definite contact that didn't let quick get set. |

2-2. Canucks just tied it up. (Edit: And have now lost 4-2)
They're taking WAY too many penalties though. I think Bitz will get a game or two for his hit.
As for the OP / Poll - I think the Canucks but in a dogfight. 6 or 7 games.
@Alex - For the most part, the Canucks didn't look very good. Their late PP had some good chances and Luongo played pretty well but that's about it. |

What a huge gaping hole in that line up with Daniel Sedin. I see similarities in discipline issues of Cancks teams of years past. AV better get one kids to stop the nonsense quickly.

It's too early to make long term series predictions based on game 1 most of the time,
but I am seeing exactly what I thought might give Vancouver trouble. A solid and stifling defence that is super tough on the boards, and a skilled and offensively minded counterattack that is also very tenacious on the boards. Let's face it here - Quick did not have to be spectacular tonight.

Really great point on using game one as a prediction. I would not bet against any of the teams who lost their games last night.
The thing that surprised me the most in the Van/LA game was how badly the Canucks defense was physically outplayed by the Kings forwards. The Kings have some very big, fast, and ill-tempered forwards that can clearly dominate when they want to. Even if LA doesn't win the series, this might be trouble for the Canucks in the long run. The last this that team needs is a banged up defensive core after the first round.
And speaking of pancakes, who was that guy wearing #25 for the Kings?? What an absolute beast!! Get that man some flapjacks, stat!!!

the Canucks took some very unfortunate and tons of penalties and that cost them the game. the snow shower from Kesler and then the Delay of game from Higgins cost them a goal which got the ball rolling. I don't think Vancouver will let another like that slip away.

OMG the tweet is funny. I know i know but dam it made me laugh. Yes Canadians are pulling for Vancouver...despite media sentiment! Or I am speaking for myself anyway.
M. Richards was all over the place! This game would not have been close except for the double deflection past Quick and the great play of Luongo.
If Lou keeps playing this well Van wins in 6! Great hockey, game 2 will be a barnburner! Go Sens tonight!!! |

Being from Edmonton the Van Love is 50/50. I for one dont like the team or the direction they are headed not to mention they are a division rival. Also I have always been a fan of Chicago and Boston but a lot of people I know are from Van or B.C. and cheer for them. Makes for some interesting bets and if L.A. beats them first round which I think L.A. deserves, than I will be more proud a Canadian than if Van takes home the Cup. Also I think a first round exit will show Van's fans/GM/coaches/players that something needs to be done before they hit the basement floor. In which case they will finally realize they should just trade Luongo. I dont care if he had an excellent game. He usually does at home. The things they could do though if they traded him would make them president worthy.

Yup, i have to agree. The penalties they took def had a bearing on the game, even if LA only got one PP goal. Taking into consideration the number of PP's and the length of the two 5 on 3's, i think the Canucks would be happy walking out of that game with just 1 PP goal against! BUT, the fact is, those penalties kept their top player parked on the bench for much of the first 2 periods. H. Sedin ended up with 20 mins of TOI but much of that (8 mins or so) was in the final frame. This, along with having no consistent flow to their game, was affected by those penalties, even if the Kings PP didn't kill them.
Also, if the Canucks PP had scored a goal or 2, the outcome could easily have been different. They scored at a 23% clip during the season yet failed to score in 5 chances last night.
All in all, the better team on the night won. Simple as that. Bad, bad, bad for Vancouver to waste a very good performance by Luongo!!!
Also, not a mention around here (unless it's in another thread) about the Bitz hit? Bad hit, will be suspended seeing as not only is he easy to suspend, but Clifford will miss at least a game they say and maybe more. Suspension worthy and will prob get him 2-3 games i'm guessing? |

The good news is Vancouver lost by one goal 3-2 with an empty netter despite the fact that they played horribly. Way too many penalties. The only Canuck that game to play was Luongo which might be a blessing in disguise

Obvious to mention, but this game 2 is absolutely crucial for the Canucks now . . . giving this LA team a 2-0 lead would be too much, I think - especially with their defence, goaltending, and with Vancouver's sometimes fragile psyche.
Well, maybe not the last one, I don't know . . . IS Vancouver's psyche still fragile, even after last year's one game short run? We'll see, especially if the Kings score first.
Stoked to stay up late and watch this one, hopefully the wife lets me
