This is my day of reckoning, the day I let loose on all hockey topics. Why am I doing this, because it is my 1000 post. Please try and keep this topic strictly hockey, try and not get off topic.

Orr vs. Gretzky
The age old debate is back. If Orr had not retired because of faulty, injured knees, or had not had bad knees at all throughout his career, would he be considered the greatest player of all time?? Personally I think he would. The Norris would have belonged to him every year and he would have been dominant for at least 10 more years. He probably would have even been better then how we saw him play. I'm my opinion, he is the best ever.

Toronto Maple Leafs
JFJ has to be much smarter if the Leafs are going to contend for the Cup in the near future. Here are some of the ways I think we can be better:

Option 1:
Ferguson waits until late February, early March and does 1 of the two.
1) If Leafs are in contention, sign Forsberg for a 500k contract for the rest of the year. I think if he can help Sundin win a Stanley Cup he will do it.
2) If Leafs are out of contention, trade Sundin for some young guys and draft picks. Trade to a contender. Sundin deserves a Cup.

Option 2:
JFJ makes Toronto the worst team in the league this year and for the next couple years. Leafs get some young guys and high draft picks. I can handle the Leafs being the worst team in the league for 5 years if it means they will win it in the next 10.

Option 3:
The moves for this year that I would make.

During the season:
-Send Kubina to the Minors; this frees up 5 million dollars
quote:
Trade:
To TOR:
Joni Pitkanen-2.4 mill
Kyle Brodziak-.5 mill

To EDM:
Hal Gill-2 mill
Matt Stajan-.85 mil

This would give Toronto a capable puck moving D-man and also gives them some youth. Edmonton gets a big man on their roster, as well as a pk player.

-Option 1
-If this doesn't make Toronto better then they hold on to their number 1 pick. If they have pick 14 lets say, then they chose Michael Del Zotto.

During the Offseason:
-Resign Sundin to a two year, 4 million dollar contract
-If you never got Forsberg before, get him now.
-Pick up Kurt Sauer for 500k to fill out the blue-line.

Cap Hit=0.476
After moves=
-5 mil from Kubina
Trade=Minimal Cap movement
Old Sundin Contract (5.5)-New Sundin Contract (2.2) = +3.3 mil
Forsberg+Sauer signing =.850 +.500= 1.35 mil

New Cap Hit= Approx. 10 million more room in cap space.

GHL:
We on pickuphockey have our own http://www.goodhockey.com league. The new season is starting so we are looking for some new blood. Our league name is pickuphockey.

That concludes my post. It's not long but it represents me somewhat. I would like to say that this site is the best and I am happy to have been here for a relatively long time. Long live pickuphockey and long live the great hockey discussions had here on the site. Cheers!

Indeed, I get through the first page asking for my details and get to the page that asks which league I'd like to join.

I type in pickuphockey, with the password Fizzle, and it says pickuphockey doesn't exist.

So I did a search, and found a league called Pickup Hockey, with a space between the two words. It says 20/20 slots are full, and a password is required.

I type in that league name and the password you gave and it says the password is incorrect.

Did you put the league name correct.
League Name: pickuphockey
Password: Fizzle

Did you make a BSG account? You need one to join any league :p
hkalirah Posted - 10/31/2007 : 19:06:28
Can't seem to join, says the password is incorrect.

Thanks Oil (BTW why are you posting as a guest.) The password is Fizzle. The GHL is a virtual hockey league where you manage your team, assign lines and draft players. Its really fun
Guest8815 Posted - 10/31/2007 : 15:02:38
I could be wrong but try Bizzle. If not ask Babs or one of the other members who may remember. BTW this is Team AO a.k.a -oil-country-.

After playing in the NHL, it's hard to watch hockey games.

Well, I think you know what I think Paintrain.

It was Gerry Cheevers Boston's goalie who said Orr should have won the Vezina.

Congrats Leafsfan101! You're one of the more knowledgeable younger forum members!

Now to the discussion. Well me being a young one I didn't get to see any games of Orr but with links from the help of Willus and other forum members of Bobby Orr I got to watch some hockey moment of Bobby Orr. There is one clip I saw where it was all about Bobby Orr's defensive play. Many times he would cough the puck up at the blue line and he would end up skating bad so hard and get the puck back and start the play up again. Now that's good!!!!

I remember hearing Willus say that someone said that Bobby Orr could have won the Vezina because he blocked so many shots. I don't know who said that but that just proves his good defensive play!

Bobby Orr could do both offence and defence. In my mind if you can put the puck in the net and protect the puck from getting in your own net as a defenceman while still being over a +100 and getting over 100 points and being told that you should win the Vezina. I think you're the best player ever! And that's what Bobby Orr did so what is he? Willus do you care to answer?

Ya, just go to www.ghl.com, create a bsg account and look for a private league called pickuphockey. It will be there.

Welcome hkalira.

Willus, I told my uncle to make a topic about NHL questions and answers, we can continue our discussion there.

The fact is Orr didn't stay healthy and Gretz did. If you want to use the injury/forced to retire argument, wouldn't Lemieux be better than both of them?

Why not bring Maurice Richard into the mix, he played in a 6 team league where they only played 60 games a year. It can be argued that this was the era in which the league was most competitive since the league wasn't watered down.

In my opinion, Gretzky is the greatest because his stats say so.

Probably not the greatest deal by me value-wise. The Gretzky card was close to mint. I really liked that Orr card though. There were a few other cards in the deal (an Espo one and maybe one or two others) and about $300 as I recall . This is back in about '90.

The most memorable part of that day though was going up to get Eddie Shack's autograph (I made that deal at a card show). Just as my friend and I step right in front of Eddie, he lets out this huge sneeze all over us. He was well-endowed nose-wise too as you probably know! That's a true story!

Edit - can't find any Greg Smith card yet but I have another box somewhere so some other time I'll try to dig it out. I remember seeing a card of his before. Anyway, must be interesting to talk to him. You are a lucky nephew Nash. My nephew only gets to hear about me being sneezed on by Eddie Shack!

wow that's nice willus care to say it to greg smith he's here right now. He surprised me tonight. He played with Gretzkey. so maybe you better stop talking before you dig yourself into a hole.

Who the hell is Greg Smith? Sorry Mr. Smith, no offence meant.

Sure I'll say it to Greg Smith.

Greg,
Bobby Orr is the greatest hockey player there has ever been, bar none. Was and still is referred to as the "perfect hockey player".

How was that Nash? Did you think I'd be intimidated by a pro hockey player or something?

"You are not your desktop wallpaper"

Sorry, was a little trigger happy with that blank post just now. Anyway, I'm gonna check my card collection. Almost sure I have Greg Smiths card! Also have Wayne's Rookie card. Had another one too but traded it a long time ago for some money and a slightly roughed up third year card of the greatest hockey player ever!
