Posted - 10/05/2010 : 21:04:55 If you guys have seen any of the top tens of shoot outs, then pavel gets the all time winner. He undresses goalies like nobodies buisness, and he makes it look soooo easy !! My personal favourite though would be jussi jokinen. His one handed shootout goals are just priceless ! Riberio did a great copy of it as well! Ah I just love shootouts :D |

This is a good link for shootout stats: http://www.nhlshootouts.com/ShootoutStats.htm
How come no one is mentioning Nummelin, Pavelski, Kariya?

Posted - 10/30/2008 : 15:17:18 yeah, this poll needs some serious updating. Hagman made one of the best moves I've ever seen. I know what it's like in Brodeur's case, since I get sprayed with snow almost every game. Very nice move by Hagman, I started laughing out loud in the middle of the shootout.

Posted - 10/30/2008 : 06:54:38 I thought that was a great goal, it's actually somthing I used to do in minor hockey years ago. It's incredibly effective. Broduers expression was priceless. I'm beginning to respect him less and less as a person, but to be fair I didn't like Roy much as a person either. |

Posted - 10/26/2008 : 05:09:41 Pretty sure I saw Pat Lafontaine pull off the "Jokinen" or "Forsberg" or "Lemiuex" whatever you want to call it way back when he was with the Islanders during a penalty shot. I am trying to find video but am having no succes so I could be wrong but I remember it being a huge highlight in the day. Anyways best shootout player is Sam Gagner in edmonton, the kid has the puck on string, doesn't have the same success rate as Jokinen but he does different moves all the time and is exciting to watch. Also look at Steven Stamkos's move on you tube during the OHL young stars . Amazing! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxDchLQIQa4 hope that link works |

Posted - 01/17/2008 : 14:20:03 Exactly So while you do give credit to Forsberg for the deke, you still mentioned Jokinen is the best player in shootout? I would hazard a guess that this is because he is active whereas Pete is not.
Which I think explains why I also mention Jussi even in spite of the fact that many pattented the move before him

Posted - 01/16/2008 : 14:55:18 Oh no question The thing is Datsyuk has a whole repitoire. He can pull off any move, based on what the goalie does. I am convinced that half way in he can read the goalies eyes and decide. It takes a player with his skill, and more importantly, his knowledge of the game, to be able to do that.
I think if he wanted, he could mroe times than not snipe it wherever he wants. But for insurance, he could go VOKOUN style on a goalie and know that he has a whole net to shoot at. Wow.

Posted - 01/16/2008 : 14:20:15 I know I saw Lemieux do that move loooooong before Forsberg.
I would like to put Datsyuk out there as one of the best to have in the shootout arsenal. |
Alex |
Posted - 01/16/2008 : 14:09:31 Yet again, someone feels I am a stupid 13 year old. Yet again, I realize I am.
But, let me explain. This is the logic of an adolescent brain. SINCE today Jokenin is the one who the move is most commonly used by and reffered back to as, I chose to call it the Jokenin. However, if we are going to debate the originator, then I would say that all time it is called the Forsberg, with its origin to me unknown, though TSN seems to point to Lemieux.

I've watched and played fairly competitive hockey for about 20 years now, and I have one question.....What the sweet jesus is a "dangler"? Is he the old perv trying to lure kids into his van by dangling candy in front of them?
Also, if it can't be denied that the move is most commonly called the Forsberg why oh why did you call it the Jokinin? You my young friend are the Anti-Bobby Clarke. He picks a side and stands by it right or wrong with unwaivering conviction. You however flip flop more then Hasek. Put a little more thought into what you're saying as opposed to writing the first thing that pops into your head to increase your post count and then changing your position the second someone writes a contradicting statement.....sorry to go off on a rant there big guy, just trying to help you give your 473 posts a day a little more substance....
Back on topic, I have to disagree with the people saying that the guys shooting and picking corners are more effective shoot out performers. Goalies are to good at covering the angles and their gear is just to big. From what I've been seeing in the shoot outs is the guys going in with a good deke and a decent back hand are scoring more often then the guys picking the corners. There's obviously certain players that are more effective then the average player at one or the other. Over all I think there's a higher percentage of goals scored on dekes then straight up shooting. |
Alex |
Posted - 01/15/2008 : 17:49:40 According to TSN, the innovator of that deke is Lemieux. Not to revive old topics, but I just wanted to mention this because it was featured in the NHL top 10

Posted - 12/14/2007 : 08:32:58 I'm sorry Alex, but you went from "knowing full well it was Forsberg" to responding that people recognize and remember Forsberg more than Nilsson. There were a lot of great Euro players back then who didn't get nearly the publicity that current Europeans do. Early players like Salming were recognized, but it wasn't until Fedorov, Bure and the like started to defect. The draft position of good Europeans started to increase dramatically shortly thereafter.
Sorry all - off topic.
As stated - some of us have been watching hockey for a long time. |

Well there is a video of Forsberg doing it in 94, was it earlier than that?

The first player to use that move was Kenta "Mr Magic" Nilsson who was Forsbergs childhood idol growing up.
So it should really be called The Nilsson, even though Forsberg made it famous by doing it at a very young age and in an important moment.
Heres Kenta doing it in 89: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QobAlzxDdXc
And who remembers Magic in comparison to Petey F?

Someone a bit older than you perhaps?
Kenta had two 107 points seasons when first coming to the NHL and still holds Calgarys record of 131 points in a season...not too shabby.
Edit: Got a bit offtopic, as for the best shootout player today i have to agree with the popular vote that jokinen takes it. |
