Posted - 10/11/2009 : 20:23:29 I guess somebody wrote a biography of Peter Pocklington and said that there was an agreement in place in the early 80's for the Oilers and the Leafs to switch teams 100%. In addition, Pocklington would pay $50 million. Guess who bailed on this one. Harold Ballard. Apparently, when asked why the deal didn't happen, Pocklington replied, "I don't know. He was a crazy old bugger." Next in line for "Crazy Old Bugger of the Year"....how about Burkie?
The Oil WILL make the playoffs in 2010. |

It would have been a tragedy for the Oil but I am sure Ballard would have sold the team soon after cashing Pocklington's $50M cheque.

I think Pocklington would be the one who was shot, he wouldve traded away the Oilers dynasty haha

Posted - 10/11/2009 : 21:29:47 I don't know, that stuff is before my time, but would the NHL have approved such a massive move? With the way they are now, it is amazing that they were even close to thinking about something like that. |
