If Ovechkin had the heart that sid or iginla, for example had, would he be the best player in the NHL. He doesn't try his hardest, when he loses the puck, sometimes he just gives up. If he tried his very hardest and had more potential, he could very well bethe most complete player in the league.

Ellis or Mason?

Seriously, the two play different styles. Crosbys more complete while OV is pure goals. All you gotta do is watch em play to see the difference in thier respective games. Who has more heart? Its debatable. They both want to win REAL bad but I think Crosby has more of a team first attitude. OV tries too hard to be the goal scorer and sometimes tries to wade through several opponants instead of making a play. The thing is he can usually do it. they are both great players on good young teams. BTW IMHO Washington will be just as good as Pitts this year and both will challenge Montreal for top in the east.

Crosby is the reason Pittsburg lost in the final.. He was to busy crying.. Not enough passion.. if crying was passion in the game.. pittsburgh would have won hands down.. Tell me his actions were heart.. i don't think so..

I forgot all about this topic, I thought this was a joke .. lol He single handedly carried a less than mediocre team from the basement to the playoffs. Scored 65 goals, first time since Mario.

Worst topic ever...I don't think anyone has more heart than Ovi. HE is one of the few guys out there who actually seems to be having FUN playing in the NHL. Most Canadian stars (except for Iginla, who really seems to have fun playing) act like they do something important. Ovechkin does what an NHL player is intended to do, he entertains! He has more shots by a mile than anyone else, he's the best!

ov has as much heart as any other player in the league. the difference between ov and iginla is ov over his career will be a much more consistant player and will easily have out produced him pt wise [goals and assist] when there careers have finished.right now it stands at,
ov ---------- 239 games-----158 goals--146 assist---1.27 ppg
iginla--------852games-------369goals--383 assist---.88 ppg
iginla is seeing a freight train comming at him and leaving him in his tracks.
iginla is a great player but ov is on another plateau compared to iginla.
ov is just on another level.

how do you not think he has heart... only player this year to record multiple 4 goal games and he is first in goals with 47 after today... i can see him scoring 60 goals this year being the first player to do it in like 13 years... how could a player go out one season score 60 goals in like 82 games and you say they dont have heart? .... wow..... he has so much heart and determination.

LeafsFan4Life Posted - 02/03/2008 : 07:16:18
Who has the Gull to say that Ovie does not heart. I dont even know where to begin on this, how can you say that the Heart of the Caps team does not have heart, great goal scorer, great playmaker, and great leader. I wont even justify this with a response. All i can say if the caps did not have this great player on the team then they would probably be in last place and lower then the Kings in the standings.

The draft istn't all that bad. First 7 picks have promise, then the rest are pretty much duds. Top 3 are huge though, Stamkos, Doughty and Piertrangelo.

Also, it doesn't appear to be a really great draft.

Also, they have Semin, Backstrom, Green, as well as Ovechkin. They have a pretty nice looking core of young players. Add in Clark and Nylander and they are not that far off. They could do with a couple more solid D-men, a solid 3 line.

Also, Kolzig is not getting any younger. They will need a goalie in the next few years.

That being said, I think that Washington is on the right path, they just need to let some talent develop and pick up a couple of decent players. Don't forget they have about $14 million under the cap to play with.

Hence the word ''hypothetically''. Forget the rules forget everything. You are the GM / owner. You can get your team in the post season, or get a corresponding pick (read in to that as you wish). What do you take?

Personally, I say forget the pick. As you said, the draft is not so great, 14 mil under the cap, excuse the pun, and the team really needs the morale boost that making the post season brings. Plus, for argument's sake, let us say a lot of their guys develop by next season and they make 7th in the east -- the experience of already being in the post season together can only help, along with whatever they chose to use the 14 mil on. More so in my mind, than a young prospect.

Here ar five of ther other solid prospects to build on...
1. Nicklas Backstrom (C),
2. Karl Alzner (D),
3. Eric Fehr (RW),
4. Semen Varlamov (G),
5. Francois Bouchard (RW).

Notice how their goalie of the future is Semen Varlamov, a great up and comming goalie.

The Alex/Iggy question, agree or disagree with the assumption built into it, at least is within the realm of reasonable debate. The Lindros example of someone with NO heart - well, I think even most of Lindros's biggest haters would probably quickly say that he had some heart - and many would even acknowledge that for a time he had a great deal of heart.

If anybody read my first post or any of ythe other ones after it, you'll see that is exactly what I meant, Thank you Andyhack. The title is merely a gimmick. I wish people wouldn't just read the title and respond.

It was neither an attack on you or the guest. It means sometimes we read things we may find hard to not laugh or poke fun at.

Allow me to share an observation. As you have just stated, sometimes you say things that are off. Why not either wait and read a few other posts and gain some insight that way or do a little research on your own before posting or even just not posting if you don't know anything about the topic. It is ok not to respond to every thread. You may get far less personal attacks that way which of course would make moderating a little easier.

By all mean post and post often but consider what I mentioned above.

Of course they try night in night out to when. But this is hypothetical as many of the forum questions are.

Realistically, Washington probably is one good player short from a good team.. And they can acheive that through the free agent market. I think that they have amazingly solid picks to back themselves on. And they have loads of cap space, so the future looks bright in Washington.

Ovie has looked sensational in the past month or so. He is on pace for 67 goals, 43 assists, and 110 points.

More importantly, he is huge had in Washington winning games. Interesting to think a team that was predicted to play for a high draft pick is only 3 points out of the playoffs today.

What are you talking about?? Lindros underachieved only after he suffered his millionth concussion. For a time there, you were starting to make sense but then you decided to make this comment to bring you back to the silly square again.

Ovie plays his heart out all the time. If a person could give 110%, it would be Ovie. After signing his monster contract, does he slack off? Nope picks up the pace and now leads the league in goals and points.

Yashin, Kovalev, Lindros are all great examples of no heart. Most NHLers have it though, the vast majority carrying the pride of Canada on their shoulders

I think that your nationality really has a lot to do with it. When was the last time a player died from the excietement of a soccer game here in Canada? Yet a couple years back I remember a story of a player literally having a heart attack scoring the O.T. goal.

It all depends how you grew up and if the sport meant something to you or it was just a way to make money.

Ovechkin has no heart? Did you guys see last night’s games, or the highlights?

The kid takes a huge hit from Boullion, which breaks his nose, and also receives a high stick which busts his lip which required stitches.

After all that he still get’s the overtime winner which was his 4th goal of the night.

Everything with a smile on his face/

Wow, that’s all I have to say.

If he has a chance of catching the puck he tries 100% but when there's a breakaway, no team wants the guy on the ice. there's a reason he doesn't get PK time.

Nash, how many Ovechkin games have you watched. I have watched about 6 or 7, and in those games he dominates the offensive zone and isn't a liability on the defensive end. He works hard every shift and after a missed pass he ALWAYS skates back hard to his end. So I don't know where you are getting your facts from.
Guest9537 Posted - 02/01/2008 : 07:31:48
and the reason he doesn't get penalty kill time is because he is an offensive player. He knows how to score goals and that's what you want him to do. Why waste the energy on the PK??? Does Crosby kill penalties?? Does Iginla?? Did Gretzky??

You don't send your goalie in on the forecheck... so why would you play your top offensive player on the PK if you don't need to.

Just common sense.
Guest9642 Posted - 02/01/2008 : 07:29:19
Ahhhhh... when the other team has a breakaway already, the only player on rhe ice that matters is your goalie! Unless your wanting Ovechkin to do that too? How many actual hockey games have you watched???
Guest9537 Posted - 02/01/2008 : 07:28:12
Anyone arguing Ovechkin has no heart should watch last nights game VS Montreal.

He got hit in the face with a stick, checked into the boards and broke his nose...bleeding all over his face on the bench.

He went on to score 4 goals and 1 assist including the game winner. Not to mention he was a physical presence all night throwing big hits every chance he could.

How does anyone say no heart to that?
" * * * the kid" would have probably been crying after the high stick...

Man, I don't know where that accusation comes from. I was at the last Washington game in Toronto and being a Leafer, I spent half the game with my heart in my throat everytime he touched the puck.......It seemed like he had it all the time? I can honestly say I have never seen him dogging it and can only dream of having a player like him on my team some day!!!!!

Ya Nash, this is pretty dumb. Sorry but c'mon, I think you are being WAYY to stereotypical towards Ovechkin. Have you watched him play. What does he do that makes him lazy. Gve a reason and explain it?
n/a Posted - 01/30/2008 : 05:01:28
This is a ridiculous opinion . . . not because I disagree with it, but because it clearly hasn't been thought through, as is evidenced by this long thread.

Ovechkin has tonnes of "heart", is a GRITTIER player than Crosby, and is a MUCH BETTER GOAL SCORER. Hey - I love Crosby, he's a fantastic player - but don't sell this Ovechkin kid short.

You mention Sid and Iginla in the same sentence, where I would lump Iginla and Ovechkin together as very similar players, although I think Ovie is much more talented. Crosby has heart; sure he does. Do you know how easy it would be for Ovechkin to pad his goals total (yes, PAD - as in, ADD TO) by not playing defence at all?!? On a bad team with heartless talents like Semin around, he is a +11! Cripes, look at some other great talents on bad teams - like Kovalchuk, Lecavalier, Jokinen. How do they compare? The only plus player there is Lecavalier (+3), and he's playing with St.Louis and I think Prospal now. Can you even name who Ovechkin is playing with?!?

And lastly - in my opinion, if I were picking the best player in the NHL right now, it would be a three-way tie: Alfredsson, Iginla, Ovechkin.
