Posted - 08/02/2007 : 13:40:39 Hah, Leigh. Yeah, Wellwood is really something and I'm starting to think we don't need Cammalleri
Also, maybe Steen should wplay with Blake and Sundin. He plays pretty smart and should be good. This vid isn't great quality but it's great.

That's Steen. Not NHL but still pretty damn good. |

Didn't know that Kash. Thanks. I pulled the positions from NHL.com. I knew Wellwood played center mostly so I looked up the other guys to see too.
I think Wellwood is amazing and I hope he keeps getting chances, that kid shows flashes of absolute brilliance. Plus I'm 5'8" so I'm a fan of the smaller guys in the NHL. haha! |

Posted - 08/01/2007 : 21:47:30 But take a look at all the teams, and you will see that most teams are in the same boat...
Many players are signed during the season, or have extensions to their contract...they are not all that bad, look at the Rangers...

LA Kings are about 7 mil under the cap this season...

Posted - 08/01/2007 : 21:04:43 I don't think the Kings are planning on re-signing him. He will want top dollars and with the new UFA's they brought in they don't need his offense too much. He is going to want 5-6 million and if they give him that then what will Kopitar ask for? |

Posted - 08/01/2007 : 20:36:48 He is arbitration at the moment, and who said they are not talking?
We would have to give up a first round , and a third round choice to sign him. (Over $2,3M to $3,5M) according to NHL.com Free agent signings...That is what I think he will be offered from the arbitrator...
Now who do we move for Cap space, and roster positions...We are already too close to the cap limit to be able to sign more players...
You can not trade for a player in arbitration...

Posted - 08/01/2007 : 20:22:51 I don't want to trade for Cammalleri, PuckNuts. I am quite aware of the leafs position. We have a strong, big roster and we could do many things next year too, I know we don't need rentals. I suggest to trade LA for the RIGHTS to deal with him. It looks like LA and Mike aren't very friendly at all right now. They haven't even spoken. No calls have been made. If they don't sign then I fully support going after the rights to him. If he is signed then I wouldn't want to get him. As you say, he is too expensive.
Now the Wellwood deal. Mike's stats show that with 35 goals on the Kings last season he is capable of finding the back of the net, along with setting up plays effectively for linemates as can Wellwood. Wellwood is very versitile and can play with alot of people. He also has the same skill set as Camm. I would bet they fit nicely on a line together. Even if they don't there are more possibilities.

Posted - 08/01/2007 : 19:18:37 Just curious, what makes you think that Wellwood, and Cammalleri will have good chemistry, they may, but do you think LA is going to give him up, they are building for the next two years, and they seem to have a good foundation that includes Cammalleri...
We will have to give way too much to make it a worthy trade...

Posted - 08/01/2007 : 19:11:59 We didn't know he was going to be picked when we gave him away though. He wasn't a huge pick people were after... I don't think it's rught to rule him out just because of that. Him and Wellwood would probbaly have great chemistry and it would be a huge move for the leafs if they were to lock him up in a long term extension.. Imagine this,
Wellwood, Cammalleri, Tlusty, Kulemin
Colaiacavo, Kronwall, Stralman, White, maybe Harrison, and if his heart isn't hurting his game Pilar
Pogge
That is a bright future... and a few current guys should be in that too. |

Posted - 08/01/2007 : 19:07:45 We already had our chance at Cammalleri, we traded his draft rights to LA for Aki Berg, and we know how that turned out...He is not in the cards for the Leafs...

Posted - 08/01/2007 : 19:01:30 Good point on Tucker but, I already knew that. Thought he could be used on the PP more. His 5 on 5 play hurts his possibilities though he might be able to play with Wellwood. They had chemistry for a bit last year.
I'm also hoping we trade for bargaining rights on Cammalleri. He is really talented, though I think he might be a little gready for an "A" and seems like he isn't too nice a guy. I can't see why else LA isn't wanting to make a deal and I think I recollect about his attitude not being great. I'm not sold on the idea but I think he would be good for the "One, Two Punch" line up. |

That is not a bad line up, but remember the Leafs signed Tucker for 3.0 Mil, he will never be on the third, or fourth line...
Blake - Sundin - Ponikarovsky Antropov - Wellwood - Tucker Kilger - Steen - Bell Battaglia - Pohl/ Stajan - Devereaux
Kaberle/Kubina McCabe/Colaiacovo White/Gill
Toskala Raycroft
If the Leafs decide to sign Peca then they will move either Steen, Stajan or Pohl...Belak will be put on waivers...

Posted - 08/01/2007 : 17:22:57 Apparantly PM says he is predicting it to start out as
Blake - Sundin - Antrapov
Also, I don't know if you knew Leigh but Tucker was a left winger but is able to play both. His lack of size and speed will probably make him a constant pest and I think that could possibly get in the way of the goal producing. I think we should grab Peca, trade a small forward preferably Devereaux or Pohl(maybe both) and get that checking line I mentioned on another topic.
Kilger - Peca - Tucker
This would give Tucker the chance to work on his checking and two-way playing.
Line up for 07/08 as of now:
Blake - Sundin - Antrapov Ponikarovsky - Wellwood - Steen/Tucker Kilger - Stajan - Bell/Tucker Battaglia - Pohl - Devereaux/Tucker
Somone will be getting moved down for Tucker.

Posted - 08/01/2007 : 17:01:03 Well considering that Sundin plays center and Blake plays left then you probably want to choose a right winger for the job. So that only leaves Tucker from your list.
Stajan - C Wellwood - C Steen - C Antorpov - C Ponikarovski - L
Of course some guys can play other positions but given the choices in the poll I would say Tucker. |

I like that idea of Tucker,Peca and Kilger on a checking line. With that it could give young gun Alex Steen some more playing time.

Posted - 07/03/2007 : 06:16:47 Last year it was tough to get the puck from Sundin, Poni, and Antropov when they were cycling the puck down low. Mats had 27 goals, his lowest output since the 94-95 season where he played only 47 games, and the Leafs never made the playoffs. That type of play will not win you the Cup, they need a Wellwood on that line to feed either Mats or Blake...
