2005-06: Kovalchuk got 98 points (52 goals) in 78 games.
Hossa got 92 points (39 goals) in 80 games.

2006-07: Kovalchuk got 76 points (42 goals) in 82 games.
Hossa got 100 points (43 goals) in 82 games.

They both played on the Thrashers those years, whether or not they played on the same line, I'm not sure, but still, Hossa does put up the same kind of number Ilya does. Also, Hossa was a +35 those years, and Kovalchuk was -8.

Habs get number 25 this year

Wow. I'm glad someone revived this thread. Check out the date on this one! And now for this weeks lottery numbers.

Hossa's career season in points is better than Kovalchuk's career season. How well is Kovalchuk doing now, WITHOUT Hossa?

Kovalchuk is doing fine with 21 points in 23 games. That only 5 less than Hossa in the same amount of games.

And I think you are failing to appreciate the linemates Hossa has now compared to Kovalchuk. Do you not think that Hossa is realizing a positive impact from playing with Datsyuk and Holmstrom for the most part?? What about the PP time with Rafalski and Lidstrom on the points??

Detroit's 3rd line is about as good as anyone that Kovalchuk is playing with. Little bit of an unfair comparison.

No, people are saying Hossa because they are smart. He is easily the best all around player.

You contradict yourself too, you say people are picking Hossa "because he is doing really good right now", therefore, implying that Kovalchuk is not doing "really good" right now, even though you say Kovalchuk does well every year.

Both good players.... Hossa mayne a little stronger in d end. Kovalchuk more of a pure goal scorer.

Kind of a toss up.

I vote for Kovalchuk...... he was never a Senioritta!!!!!!!!

GO LEAFS GO!!!!!!

wow understatement of the year....
have you watched kovalchuk play, i have never seen him come back past his own blueline, unless for faceoff. He is still one of the best offensive players in the league, but Hossa is more well-rounded.

i know its been months since somebody actually posted here... BUT....

id pick Kovalchuk

I went to see ATL play in ottawa with year... and ATL was down 5 - 0 in the 3rd with about 11 minutes left... ilya kovalchuk took over the game by scoring a hat tick while eric perrin also scored once to make the game 5 - 4... but Kovalchuks 3 goals were all by sher talent and the ability to shoot the puck, his 2nd being his classic slap shot goal walking in from the point this time on the right side, and his 3rd goal he jumped around Mike Fisher and walked in and shot the puck putting it RIGHT under the bar... making it a 5 - 4 game and it was so exciting Hossa was no where to be found that game.... now im not say only cause of this game i'd pick kovalchuk, ive been a fan for a while and hes got the talent to take over games and he can literaly score from anywhere

leafsfan1 Posted - 03/31/2007 : 05:51:43
i say hossa he is a great player
jbraiter Posted - 03/05/2007 : 13:36:59
I would normally say kovalchuk, but by the way he is playing Hossa

Go Canucks

Hossa's a winner.
Saku Steen Posted - 03/05/2007 : 12:25:15
Kovalchuk is better but its pretty close.
bablaboushka Posted - 03/05/2007 : 08:50:17
Hossa plays with Kozlov. For most of the season Kovalchuk played with Metropolit and Jon Sim.

Hmm...
PainTrain Posted - 03/05/2007 : 08:28:07
Hossa has 38 goals and 46 assists for 84 points and is a +16 while Kovalchuk has 34 goals and 28 assists for 62 points and is a -10 and in his past 5 seasons he is a -69 while Hossa is a +97 in 8 seasons.

Stats say Hossa is better and he is.

GO Sabres GO!!!!!

i really don't know because hossa is good but kovalchuck is also good
Kashmire Posted - 12/12/2006 : 20:40:14
You talk of Hossa as if he is 2nd to Scott Neidermeyer in the defensive category. Hossa hasn't much skill for defense, he is overrated in this poll when comparing his defensive skills to Kovalchuk's. Yes, I know Kovalchuk has a poor defenseive game but Hossa doesn't have a that much better one. Just some different insite I thought might be interesting to share.
B-rett10 Posted - 12/12/2006 : 19:58:41

Its based on opinion, I think it is Kovalchuk, you think it's hossa. That why there is a poll isn't it?

Kashmire Posted - 12/11/2006 : 19:18:24
Kovalchuk is the stronger of the two offensively, his mind set is all about scoring and settign up those plays. Hossa, while having a great offensive strength, is better than Kovalchuk, Kovelchuk can't defend at all. In the end i would want Kovalchuk though, hes just so smart and skilled.
Trevman12 Posted - 12/11/2006 : 19:04:37
