Posted - 01/04/2007 : 12:09:17 I agree that inconsistency is a major issue. The root of it is the two ref system. No two refs call the game the same way. Players are left to guess. Plus having 4 officials on the already small enough ice surface doesn't help to create any room. |

Posted - 01/04/2007 : 11:46:04 I think the biggest problem with the officiating is the lack of consistency. Some refs let the game run its course while others follow the rule-enforcement guidelines to a tee. It must be frustrating when you can get away with something one game, then get called for it the next. |

Posted - 01/04/2007 : 09:59:42 I said overzealous officiating. The others, I agree that they come as little surprise. I am however, shocked at the amount of penalties being called. In my opinion it makes for a worse on ice product. The league needs to re-examine its mission to crack down on obstruction. I am all for it but some of the calls are a little much. At least 25% of them are poor calls. |

Think about it, all of the above had already occured, even just a bit. The only thing up there that hadn't already happened was Anaheim's dominance but that was easily foreseeable with the acquisition of Pronger and the "rebirth" of Teemu Selanne. |

One thing I do find surprising is that goalies like Tim Thomas, Chris Mason and Ray Emery have shown that they are all starting-goalie caliber. |
