Posted - 01/18/2008 : 11:58:54 I think the best rookie has to be Tobias Enstrom -despite the fact that most people don't know how good he is playing. (myself included -I just looked up the statistics)
Keep in mind that he is a DEFENSEMEN!! 25 shifts per game 24 minutes per game 28 points -which is good for 12th place in the league among all defensemen and ahead of redden, visnovsky, timmonen, and blake.
(kane is in 35th place among forwards) |

Indeed. Great start for Enstrom.

Posted - 01/08/2008 : 16:42:24 If I had to choose someone who may zero in on them, i'd choose Backstrom (forward.)
Although, I like Cogliano and Gagner. I don't think they will be finishing top in the league in points by rookies - or as the best rookie in the league by years end.
My top 10 rookies this season, in order: (Forwards/Defense only.)
1. Kane 2. Toews 3. Backstrom 4. Cogliano 5. Enstrom 6. Gagner 7. Mueller 8. Hanzal 9. Niskanen 10. Chipchura
I am sure plenty will disagree, but that's fine.
So to answer your question, the only two i feel will have a chance to pass Toews, will be Backstrom and perhaps Enstrom. I don't feel they will pass Kane though.

Posted - 01/08/2008 : 15:34:52 OK but seriously, before this even happened it was Kane over Toews. Before they even stepped foot on the ice. Not by performance, by public opinion. They hype does a lot. Realistically, most of us thought Kane would win.
Without Toews, I am asking, do you think someone on ANOTHER team can zero in on the both of them? Gagner pehaps?

Posted - 01/07/2008 : 23:10:24 Ah, right.
I do believe it will affect Kane, during the times when Toews would have been on his line.
Kane seems to like setting up Towes, for goals. (and vise versa, a bit.)
I think we will see Kane's assists not going up as quickly. I'm thinking if Toews misses let's say 10 games... we'll see Kane only put up around 3-4 points.
Of course, I could be totally off. Just my thoughts.

Posted - 01/07/2008 : 23:01:29 In my opinion, I don't feel it will end his hopes of winning the Calder. He is a great young player, injured or not. If he is back within 3-4 weeks, I still feel he has a shot at taking home the Calder. I do feel some people are slightly biased towards Kane, as he has more hype than Toews does seems to.
But, Toews seems to be more the goal scorer of the two, and Kane more of the setup man.
At time of post: Kane: GP: 41 G: 9 A: 30 P: 39 (-4) Toews: GP: 36 G: 15 A: 17 P: 32 (+5)
He's not far behind in points, and has played 5 fewer games. Even missing 3-4 more weeks, this gives Kane even more of a chance to gain points on Toews, but in my opinion Toews to date has played just as well as Kane. Maybe even slightly better.
I'd still give him the chance for the Calder. But I guess that's just me.

Posted - 01/07/2008 : 16:04:26 Toews is a great young player. It is a damn shame he has to have an injury, so early in to his career. Hopefully, it does not affect his future career.
But, I do believe Toews will have a good career in the NHL. (if he does not turn to be injury prone, as plenty have had happen in the past.)
Post 200.

Posted - 01/06/2008 : 19:04:55 Obviously Kane but i also like Backstrom its just he has players to play with like oveckin, nylander which makes it better but i believe he could turn out 1 of the best playmakers in the league
