Should they allow the spin-a-rama in the shootout?

the thing ive always found iffy about the spin o rama is at seems illegal because the players making backwards progress. i dunno, i guess ti just depends if the refs have a bug uptheir ass or not.

On friday night my hockey team went to a shootout and this kid from the other team pulled it off and scored it was nice.

Of Course

Exactly Luck luc i agree lots!

broduer actually brought this up with the leauge. i think it iz ok to do if you dont interfere with the goalie but what bouchard did shouldnt of counted because he hit the goalie.
bablaboushka Posted - 12/12/2006 : 15:18:12
Well it is so literal that it isn't logical. When a player stickhandles, the puck is not always in forward motion toward the goalline. It clearly refers to this act before the player shoots as "and once it is shot" follows. So TECHNICALLY speaking, none of the shootout goals should have counted?

Titster you bring up a good point about the goalie not having a chance. But can the player who has possession of the puck be called for goalie interference?

NHL Rule 78 states that "Goals should be disallowed only if: (1) an attacking player, either by his positioning or by contact, impairs the goalkeeper's ability to move freely within his crease or defend his goal; or (2) an attacking player initiates more than incidental contact with a goalkeeper, inside or outside of his goal crease. "
As for the motion of the puck, Rule 30 states "The puck must be kept in motion towards the opponent's goal line and once it is shot, the play shall be considered complete. "
I think we all agree that this is far too literal.

the spinerama is wicked and requires awesome skill.

the rule on forward motion makes it even better when someone does pull it off. whoever has the guts to pull it off my hat goes off to them. i think the rule on forward movement is stupid anyway, i think they should get rid of that.

I think that it is too much to have to slow every deke down to make sure the puck is always moving forward. Plenty of dekes have the puck puled back and then forward again so quickly that it would be insane to try to enforce this rule. What about the Pavel Bure stick-to-skate-to-stick move. Dont tell me that is against the rules.

Bouchard did interfere with him though. That was obvious.
bablaboushka Posted - 12/11/2006 : 15:48:52
I'm not sure about the rule, but I didn't think it mattered about the puck. I thought as long as the shooter has forward momentum the whole way through. Some moves involve bringing the puck back and even the technique of stickhandling when the puck is at your side involves bringing the puck backward, be it a very short distance.

Titster you bring up a good point about the goalie not having a chance. But can the player who has possession of the puck be called for goalie interference? I can't picture how he could because the premise of it doesn't make sense to me. I think in a 1-on-1 situation, it is the goalie's responsibility to make sure he has proper positioning to be able to make a save wherever the puck may be. If this is the case, I think the move is genius and goalies will have to find a way to react quicker.

I managed to pull off the spin-a-rama in practice last night.
ultimatetitman Posted - 12/11/2006 : 14:03:15
I don't have a problem with any player using a spin-o-rama in a shoot out, but I do have a problem with the spin-o-rama you refer too. There is NO doubt that he interfered with the goalie and completely prevented the goalie from moving to his left to make the save. It doesn't matter whether or not he could have made the save, it matters only that he didn't have that chance.
As far as the puck having to maintain forward momentum, it's a moot point. Even if he did move the puck away from the net, so what? How many players have deked a goalie by faking a shot, then pulling the puck back to go the other way? It's absolutely uncallable.
I personally think the shoot out is a joke in a team game, but as long as we have to watch it, I hope the creativity meter keeps moving up!

Pierre-Marc Bouchard. I think he wanted to do it because his brother tried it in the Q but didn't score. Big brother always has to show off to the younger one!
Guest4615 Posted - 12/07/2006 : 21:02:02
I saw it the one the other night - It was sick! Cant remember who did it but it was awesome.
bablaboushka Posted - 12/07/2006 : 20:57:44
Why not? It's 100% legal and it's hard to pull off = awesome to watch.
