I can't disrespect Bobby Clarke by even mentioning his name in the same sentence as Ulf. There are a small collection of players who were dirtbags that you wouldn't even want on your team. Ulf, Kasparaitus, Marchment are charter members in this classless club. Tiger Williams and Dave the Hammer are not even remotely the same thing as those pieces of work. These guys were pugilists and they filled a role/need. They also operated with a certain code of honour.

I'm surprised it took so long from someone to mention Marchment - he's definately up there. For me, It would be a faceoff between Marchment and Samuelsson.

Chelios used to be kinda rough, but in his old age he's mellowed some.

I agree Ulf and Bobby where both the dirtiest

Bryan Marchment! How many times did that dirty SOB intentionally try to take out an opponents knee?

Bobby Clarke was dirty, but I hate Todd Bertuzzi for that hit on Moore, that was just cheap

Yes, let's not confuse 'dirty' with 'pesky' or 'agitating'. Also, you can't see it on tv, but most players are doing something dirty out there. That being said, Tikkanen, Kenny Linseman, Theo Fleury were all fantastic agitaters. But Ulf, Marchment and ,sadly, on at least one occasion, Bobby Clarke were actually dirty and broke the code.

I'm not confusing anything. If you don't think Tikkanen was dirty go back and watch a few Oilers games. He was as dirty with his stick as anyone I've seen.

I don't need to go back and watch a few games , my memory is quite fine.

I just don't agree that he was dirty - I feel that he was a pesky agitator that fell under the category of "you hated him unless he was on your team - then you loved him".

Its for sure Darius Kasparitus. He is not only dirty but sometimes does not have much respect for other players on the ice.

When life gives you lemons throw them at the Ottawa Senators and their fans and hope it gets them in the eyes ;)

I totally agree. He was a huge pain in the a**, but he wasn't dirty. Two teammates of his, Ken Linesman and Craig Muni, were both dirty players.

It would be tough to argue with Bobby Clark. He was pretty dirty.

My answer would probably be Bobby Clarke, BUT, it should be noted that, even with Schultz as his bodyguard, Clarke often ended a game with a lot of his own blood on his face or uniform. I'm not defending him (see the 1972 thread), but I would say that, unlike a sneaky premeditated "terminator" like Samuelson, who would then run and hide after his assaults, at least Clarke was an "honest and sincere" axe murderer.

Early in his career, Chelios was one of the dirtiest I can remember.
Gordie Howe was also a mean guy. But with him, usually you deserved it.
Tikkanen.
Marchment.
Schultz
Clarke
U. Samuelson

Good choices Beans, I was just threw a Leaf player out there to see if I could stimulate some other, or different choices...

My real choice would be Bobby Clarke...as dirty as they come...

Lead, follow, or get out of the way...

Kasparitis or Samuelsson.

From from old highlights I've seen, I'd have to say Dave Schultz.
