Hey Pucker I'm not trying to steal your thunder! As they say though, imitation is the greatest form of flattery! That thread is getting long and so I decided to create my own little trivia section. These questions might be very easy or very difficult, all you have to do is use your melon. I would also like to ask that people do not look these questions up for the answers, as it ruins the whole fun in trying to answer them.
My first question is as follows:
We all know that Jarome Iginla won the Art Ross in 2002 (especially all of the Flames fans here). So what? Well with this win, he also accomplished something that hadn't happened since 1966. What did he do??

One more to make this a grand opening:
Most people know Bill Mosienko for having scored the fastest hattrick in NHL history - 21 seconds - a record that may never be broken. Well, who scored the fastest 4 goals in history and how long did it take them? Credit for the second part if you're +/- 10 seconds. |

For the first question, is it the fact that he won 3 awards that year? Wild guess but maybe. I have no idea about the second.

I honestly don't know either of these... but I do what team scored the fastest pair of short-handed goals and who it was against. Any takers? |

Was it that Iginla won the Art Ross on a team that did not make the playoffs that year???
Fastest 4 goals?? That's a good one. Let me think about it. |

Iginla - won without scoring 100 pts?
4 goals - Maurice Richard, 3 minutes?

Well there was a sufficient amount of guesses at the Iginla one, I'm actually surprised no one got it, but they were all good guesses. What he did was win the scoring race having scored more goals than assists (52G, 44A). It was the first time since Bobby Hull did it in 1966 with 54G and 43A.
And Nordiques, either you're an amazing guesser or you knew it. It was indeed Gretzky who scored 4 in 7min:58sec. Now for the next one:
You guys brought up an interesting question about Iginla having scored less than 100 points. In fact, there are plenty of trivia questions I could ask about the Art Ross:
1) Since the league expansion of 1967 (not including the lockout season of 1994-1995), before which no one had ever scored 100 points, how many times has the Art Ross been won with less than 100 points? Extra credit for naming the player(s). You already have one answer...
2) Which TEAM has won the Art Ross the most? Think about it for maybe 30 seconds and it should click. Extra credit for the amount of times and/or the players that were part of those wins.
That should be good for now... |

1) Iginla, and between 1967 and 1970, maybe one other, but nothing can come to my mind...
2) Pittsburgh?? Lemieux and Jagr... 8 times together at least... |

1) Pretty sure the 80's had 100 pointers every year. '67-79 also included some Orr years, as well as some solid habs, Flyers Bruins etc. Plus Dionne. 90's were high scoring too. I dont think Jarome was the only one in recent years.
I will say 5 times? Iginla Esposito Clarke Forsberg Lafleur
2) Habs. 15 times? Rocket Richard, Beliveau, Courneyer, Lafleur...

Ok I'll give everyone a tiny bit of help for the first one. Between 1967 and 1970 there was only Stan Mikita who did it. So only worry about the others between the 70s-Now. Plus, you already know of Jarome Iginla... Another hint: There are only two others...
6916: Rocket Richard and Yvan Cournoyer never finished first in league scoring. Richard often finished first in GOAL-scoring, but never in points. |

Guest is right, Jarome wasnt the only one in recent years. I am pretty sure St. Louis win was under 100 pts. 2004 was a notoriously low scoring year. Not sure of the other one though. All I can think of is Lemieux, Gretzky, Jagr and I am pretty sure they all got over 100.
For the most teams, Les Canadiens is my guess: 20 times: -Boom Boom Geoffrion -Guy Lafleur -Jean Beliveau

Players to win the Art Ross without 100 points.
Iginla, St. Louis, and Jagr.
How sick is the fact that there were only 3 players to win the Art Ross in a 20 stretch from '81-'01.
If you don't know who they are you don't know anything about hockey! |

Beans did you look that up? How did you know about the fact there were only three players to win between '81-'01. I mean it's not hard to remember once you know it but to figure that there was no one else...? |

I was thinking the exact same thing.
Can I cut in?
Give me the top 20 active all time point leaders. Actually one is not really active as he is still unsigned. There is your only hint. |

Hey Pucker, remember the thread you have in your own name? Lol...
Well Beans15 got it right, whether he looked them up or not (I have my thoughts).
But there is still the second question... Which team has won the Art Ross the most often? Note that I mean which team has won the ART ROSS, not the scoring title the most often. The Art Ross was only instituted in 1947. |

I thought the others were right about Montreal. Hmm. I never thought about that. Its either Boston, or Pittsburgh. Edmonton had lots but that was Gretzky alone. Pitts had Jagr and Lemieux. Ok Pittsburgh.
Didnt mean to intrude on the thread, but If Im right we go onto my question above. |

Sorry but I like to talk these thru... Ok so we know 81-01 had 3 guys. Lemieux started in 85, Jagr in 91ish. 80's dominated by the great one except for maybe two years tops. Giving Lemieux two there. Gretz had maybe 4 tops from 90-99, so 6 for Lemieux/Jagr. 00 and 01 for Jagr is two more. 10? |

I knew St. Louis, we had Iginla, I had to look up Jagr. Also, if you look at the post from Babs at 11:10 today, is says there Iginla is one and there are two others as his only hint!
I had the question on who won the Art Ross since 81, so I knew that. Besides, I might be the worlds biggest Gretzky Fan(see the Greatest Player of all time poll) so there is another reason.
And if the team with the Most Art Ross trophies is Pittsburg than the answer is 11. Wayne won 10 in his career and his first was in 81. So if the other 21 years were won by Jagr and Lemieux(all with Pittsburg since Lemiuex never played for anyone else and Jagr has not one it since he left), that leaves 11. However, if we are saying the strike shortened season doesn't count (where Jagr won) then it is 10. If that is the case, than it is a tie between Edmonton and Pittsburg with 10 each.

Except that I am an idiot and forgot that Wayne won 3 of his with LA, giving Edmonton 7. Yikes, that was a mis-step.
So the answer is Pittsburg. 10 if you don't count the strike, 11 if you do! |

That is correct. So yeah if you knew how many Gretzky won, it just took a bit of logic. But not all people knew how many Gretzky won so it might not have been that easy for all, oh well good job. So I guess I'll move on to my next one, now on the subject of the Vezina trophy:
1) We all know Hasek won it 6 times, all with Buffalo. But, as a team, Buffalo has won it 7 times (since it was awarded for best goalie as opposed to goalie on the team with fewest goals against - since 1982). Who is the other Sabre who won it?
2) Hasek won his 6 over the span of 8 years. Who are the other two goalies to win during that span and what team did they both play for at the time? |

Ok, without looking it up, I am going to say the other two goalies were:
Roy and Belfour???
And the other Buffalo goaile. Wow, that's tough. I don't have a clue. |

Think of this, when I asked what team did they both play for, I meant they both won with the same team, but which one?
And Beans, if you do look it up, please don't answer it here. |

For the Pucker's question:
I throw 10 names to fill in the 8 empty slots:
Markus Naslund Nicklas Lidstrom Peter Forsberg (but not sure: often injured...) Eric Lindros Pau Kariya Alex Kovalev Peter Bondra Doug Weight Alexei Yashin (not so sure too)
How many are good?
edit to add #10: Jeremy Roenick |

For the blablaboushka's questions:
1) i'll guess Tom Barasso, at his rookie season (in 1983 or around).
2) Probably Jim Carey with Washington for one, and.... Vanbiesbrouck with Florida? |

Washington???
So I assume Carey is a good answer.... but the other one.. .. I remember Don Beaupre to be in front of the net for the Caps in mid 90's, but i'm sure he's wasn't even a possible nominee for the Vezina.... so, I can't see who's this goalie.... |

There we go, all three are correct from Beans's post. Here's an easy one:
Back to the Art Ross. Last year Thornton was the big winner with 125 points, two ahead of Jagr. But he also accomplished something with this win that had never been done before. What did he do? |

1.Joe Sakic, 1489 2.Jaromir Jagr, 1432 3.Pierre Turgeon, 1320 4.Mark Recchi, 1265 5.Brendan Shanahan, 1232 6.Mike Modano, 1183 7.Mats Sundin, 1167 8.Jeremy Roenick, 1142 9.Sergei Fedorov, 1063 10.Teemu Selänne, 1041 11.Brian Leetch, 1028 12.Rod Brind'Amour, 981 13.Chris Chelios, 925 14.Doug Weight, 885 15.Peter Bondra, 878 16.Tony Amonte, 870 17.Keith Tkachuk, 868 18.Gary Roberts, 846 19.Eric Lindros, 839 20.Trevor Linden, 830
Got them all but Amonte. Good job guys. Nieuwendyk was a good guess too but he retired this month. He would have been top 10.
Too tough to answer more than one question here so I will post next time in the other thread. Well done Babs, Great questions!
For the Thornton question, I think either Nords or Beans has it. |
