Poll Question:
With only a handful of games remaining in the NHL's 09/10 regular season, which player is most likely to reach 50 goals?

I voted for Sidney Crosby. With just 3 goals, he can reach both 50 Goals and 100 Points on the season. Something I believe he can do this year, establishing him as more of a goal scorer as well.

Voted Crosby. He needs the least goals to get there and out of the options, he's tied for the most games remaining... |

I'd be disappointed if Ovechkin doesn't reach 50, and it'd be a shame for his run on historical records in the future if he falls just one or two shy. Ah, the price of suspension!
Crosby has just been amazing, and every single time Ovechkin caught up and we all thought "ok, that's done now", he just kept on scoring . . . and the fact that Crosby still leads by a goal is just amazing.
It sure seems like destiny that Crosby wins the Rocket Richard trophy this year, and I have to say, it'd be a shame if Ovechkin still manages to pull it out. And let's not forget Stamkos has a great chance at 50 as well, what a season he's had.
Crosby - 47 goals - 4 games remaining (Was, NYI, Atl, NYI) Ovechkin - 46 goals - 3 games remaining (Pit, Atl, Bos) Stamkos - 46 goals - 4 games remaining (Car, Ott, Fla, Fla)
I say Crosby edges out Ovechkin and gets to 50 while the reigning MVP falls a goal or two short. But who's to say that Stamkos doesn't sneak it out from under both of their noses?

I sure like Crosby's match up's better. Really, getting 1 in each of those games doesn't look too difficult.
However, I need Ovechkin to go off the hook for me to win a pool. I am ahead by 1 point in one pool with Vanek and Connelly both hurt and I am behind by 7 in another pool. Both have Ovechkin so I need a big week from him.
And as much as I verbally smackdown Ovechkin, I do want to see him keep his 50 goal season streak around. He can stop at 7 consecutive seasons |

The way these two play each other, The could both have 2 or 3 tonight. I think Wsh-Pitt games brings the best out of these two.
I'm kind of rooting for Stamkos though. What a season. |

While both Crosby & Ovechkin have been held goal-less thus far tonight, Steven Stamkos has potted his 47th for Tampa. |

So much for that...Crosby has scored #48. He also has a pair of assists in the game, which gives him 100 points on the season. Too bad he was injured in 07/08, otherwise this would of been his 5th straight 100+ point season to start his NHL career.
Edited b/c Ovechkin has scored #47.

Wow, if Ovie reaches 50, I will remember the luck of an empty net goal against Pittsburgh in a hell of a game.
Like someone said, Washington Pittsburgh is just very fun to watch . . . even with Malkin and Green out, it was back and forth, old-time hockey - can't wait for the playoffs.

I didn't see the most recent Pens/Caps game (Rangers were playing), but for me at least, it's the most entertaining match-up going today by far. The game a couple months ago when Crosby scored a pair of goals in the 1st period, and then Ovechkin scored 3 goals as the Caps cameback to win the game...probably the best game i've seen all season. |

The race is over!
Sid the Kid nets two this evening versus the New York Islanders. Reaching the 50 Goal mark, for the first time in his early career.
Well done Crosby, the first to 50!

Crosby also had a pair of helpers in the game, so he's up to 104 points, only 3 off the lead.
Steve Stamkos scored again tonight as well, so he's at 48. |

Hats off to the kid, who'd have thunk it - not only 50 49 goals for the first time, but a solid two goal lead with a couple of games left for the competition.
An amazing accomplishment for a player who was never thought of as a goal scorer.

Crosby is still at 49. The goal was given to Guerin. Its to bad, but i still think he wins in. Hopefully gets another before the seasons over. |

Looks like the first to 50 is Ovie. My pool team and I thank you Alex!
The arena wall in chicago should be credited with a goal. |

Ovechkin is also now leading the league in points with 109. I'm really hoping Sedin can win the scoring race & Crosby or Stamkos the Richard.
Backstrom also passed the 100 point mark tonight for the first time. |

Don't take this as I hate Ovechkin, as I truly enjoy his style of play and scoring prowess.
But, I was really hoping Crosby would win the Richard this year. Just to silence the naysayers, that Crosby is not a goal scorer. Even if Crosby finishes second in goals, or at worst 3rd, people will still put the kid down regarding that.
Crosby could still take it, and I hope he does. But things are starting to look down hill.
Ovechkin will likely win many more Richard's, it'd be nice to see the Kid take one.

I was with Irvine on this one.
What a crazy race, and with a game left for most players, it could get crazier still. I honestly want Crosby to at least tie for the lead or better yet win . . . but it won't be easy, and he'll need at least two more goals to do it, probably three. At least he's got two more games.
Have to say I am sorta rooting for Stamkos to net 50 as well.

It's going to be an exciting weekend of hockey. This race is still up in the air, so is the Art Ross race.
Then you hav ethe crazy Eastern Conference playoff race. There's still 3 spots up for grabs. Montreal, Boston, Philadelphia, New York Rangers...not one of them has clinched a playoff berth as of yet. Montreal & Boston both have a chance tonight, but no matter what happens in those 2 games, the Philly/Rangers game tomorrow will have direct playoff implications.
And with most teams only having 1 game remaining, there still isn't a single playoff matchup decided in either conference!! |
