Rematch of last year's second round matchup, right?

The Canucks will have beef with the Hawks for sure... it will be entertaining!

vancouver will stomp them; just cover Hossa and use speed to beat Keith and Seabrook easy 4-0 win (Luongo has to play as good as he did in the season only to win this)

i'd like to see the nucks take it but unfortunately I believe the Hawks have the edge in Defence. Goaltending may be a question on either side, Lou just needs to play good, not great, to win this. No more 7 goal nights.

reg season Van vs Chic
goals 11 10
wins 2 2

2009 playoffs
goals 19 23
wins 2 4

so close....but Chicago just has to many guys that can score, Vancouver has a mediocre defense,( but they put up points) and to tell the truth the goal tending could go either way. Chicago already has 2 shutouts..
Going to be a brutal series...Chic wins 4-1

well, of course I gotta go with Vancouver, but its going to be a close one for sure, and honestly could go either way. Anything less than 6 or 7 games means that the losing team did a huge fail and collapsed.

I agree, this is going to be entertaining - all season long we've known that a trip to the finals will include a stop in Chicago, and here we are.

Before the playoffs I would of voted for chicago but after the first round I wasnt to impressed with the blackhawks at all...It will be a tought and close series for sure but I think Luongo seems to be getting back to the form he can play and I think that will be the difference in the series and the Canucks win in 6 games.

Ill be praying for the nucks penalty kill to improve big time

Canucks are looking strong right now. Lot's of scoring (and some guys have yet to wake up - Burrows) Chicago didn't look very strong in the first round and goaltending is suspect. I think they are too young yet (maybe next year) The huge chip on Vancouver's shoulders from last year will fuel the fire in this round. I think the Canucks will win in their own building in 6.

I to obviously think the Canucks will win, 6-7 games like last year. As for the Blackhawks having to many guys that can score, its hard to say that there better in that department then the Canucks when they lead the West in Goals for. Should be good, Vancouver get the edge in goaltending (despite what the Chicago news papers were saying) and as long as there's not a 3rd period collapse in an deciding game like last year the Canucks will go on to the next round.

CANUCKS RULE!!!

Leigh echoed my sentiments exactly - with a grudge and a rematch opportunity, the Canucks will know how to match up against the Hawks. The big key for me is the goaltending in Chicago, as it is the one big change from last year . . . and it hasn't been piss-poor, but it hasn't been great either. Chicago's defence has looked lost at times, and looking at the teams they beat, LA was playing much better in my mind.

Also, people are forgetting who the higher scoring team was during the regular season . . . lol - ok, the Canucks scored one more goal during the regular season. But the point is, their offences are pretty evenly matched in a lot of ways, and I think the key is defence and goaltending.

Canucks in 6.

Good point slozo The canuks are blood thirsty for a stanley cup win and if they dont take stupid penaltys they will win this in 6 or 7 games. I am surprised that half of vancouvers goals are from defence like erhoff and bieksa. Luongo has his good and bad games so has neimi.

CANUKS RULE!!

Well, this is a series a lot of fans and players were hoping for! Well, i know the fans were and while the players on both teams claim to have been looking forward to it, they'd prob not have minded an easier second round opponent?

The offenses are very even, Chicago has the edge on D and Vancouver has the edge in goal. Goaltending IMO, is gonna be what wins or loses this series, then again, it often is isn't it? If Luongo can continue to improve as he did in round 1, the Canucks should win. However, if he fails to do so, or, Niemi plays above the level we've seen thus far, it could be enough to give the series to the Hawks. Niemi's as much or more of a key than Luongo. I think we'll see in game 1 where his mind and game are at. If nerves show through and he lets in some soft goals, he could be in trouble early. Just how quickly would they go to Huet?

This one's so tough to call but i'm gonna have to be a homer as well and go with Canucks in 6. I say they'll steal one of the first 2 in Chicago and wrap it up at home but this is clearly one of the toughest series to call.

It depends which Vancouver team shows up. If the Canucks of games 1-4 against LA show up it will be Chicago in a landslide. Chicago has FAR more fire power than LA and will completely embarass the Canucks if they have a 40% PK. Vancouver was LUCKY to split the first 4 games. However, if the Canucks of games 5 and 6 show up, I think Chicago will be in tough. Not a landslide for either side. 6 or 7 games for sure.

Ultimately, my opinion is that when you have two teams that are very evenly matched, coaching is the difference maker. I don't like Vigneault and never have. Looking back to last season, Quinville completely outcoached Vigneault and that was the difference in the series at that time. I alos completely agree with Slozo on the goaltending. I think IF Chicago has a downfall, it will be in net. They may sorely miss Khabibulin.

All things considered, I like Chicago for a win. I still think Chicago are a better team(specifically on defense), they are pretty even looking at the forwards, Chicago is better coached.

Bottom line is for us Non Canuck/Non Chicago fans, it is going to be a great series.

Be careful what you ask for Vancouver...

What happens if Chicago lights up Luongo...

Both teams were shakey to start...But now they have played and most of the bugs and jitters are gone. I think that one of the twins will get injured this series and I also don't believe that Samuelson can keep it up. 0.7 points a game in reg season now in the playoffs 1.8
Both are excellent teams going to Fantastic hockey !

When asked about the exectuion of his offence he responded " I'm in favor of it"

Its gonna come down to Luongo's confidence. If the hawks light him up in the first game, look for a breakdown by Luongo throughout the series. If he shuts them down, look for the nucks to pick up on his confidence and follow suit.
Its going to be a great series for sure!

Really looking forward to this series. I give it to the Canucks in 7. I'm just not sure if the Hawks can play their run and gun offensive game against the Canucks 2 years in a row.

I love the fact that after Canada beat the US in the Olympics, during the hand shakes Luongo said to Kane "See you in the playoffs." That could be good or it could be as bad as snowing a flag kid!! We all know how that turned out!!

When Hell freezes over, I'll play hockey there too.

My favourite serie of the second round. Two bad the games are so late. Well Chicago in 6. Unless Luongo plays like he can and the Sedins continues their MVP like season.

But Chicago has too much fire power and Niemi is playing really good right now, although not totally constant yet.

Chicaco essentially has to stop 1 line.
Vancouver has to stop 3...

I like Chicago in 6. More balanced offense, better defense and, this year anyway, roughly even goalie.

Chicago in 5 if the Hawk's D can get back to allowing the fewest shots on net like they did in the regular season.

If they're not consistent then it will be Hawks in 7.

Like someone said earlier, this is the best match up of the 2nd round.

The arena wall in chicago should be credited with a goal.

How do you think Chicago has to only stop one line?? Vancouver was the only team in the league that had 6 players over 25 goals and 2nd in the league in scoring.

Even Cheechoo can be made into a Rocket Richard trophy winner... How many of those 6 earned the vast majority of their goals on the top line? It's at least 4, if not 5... Just compare what Samuelsson and Burrows have done these playoffs; it proves the point pretty succinctly.

I'll admit that Kesler is exceeding expectations, but it still doesn't stack up to Chicago's more balanced offense...

It sure appears that Chicago is getting in the Canucks' heads. Burrows, losing it, Sedins , losing some of it, Luongo, bad night of bounces.

It will be interesting to see if they can settle down and get back to thier strengths, if not, Chicago may take the next 2 and be done in 5.

How awesome was Byfuglin last night??? Seriously, that guy is worth his salary for his games against Luongo alone!!!

I stated it very early in the playoffs, if anything will hurt the Canucks it will not be the team on the other side of the ice. They can literally beat anyone at any time. However, what does hurt them is their lack of discipline and playing style. It's not a controlled agression, it is often completely out of control. That starts with their coach.

Chicago is just illuminating this for everyone.

On a side note, is a line of Toews-Kane-Hossa even fair?? That is some seriously fun hockey to watch for the 5 or so shifts a game you see those guys together for.

Byfuglien was amazing last night! What a game! And Kane, Toews and Hossa ont eh same line really isn't fair to the other teams is it? Haha!

Sedin in the box shooting his mouth off? Didn't see that coming!
I kind of expected it from Burrows.

GO HAWKS!

Seriously, where is the Vancouver coaching staff enforcing discipline to their team?? Vancouver is seriously outplaying Chicago in 5 on 5 situations but the team and their coaching staff are too stupid to realize that they are handing the series over on a platter because of taking penalties. A Jack Adam's WINNING coach should have to be told that 14 PP chance for the opposition is a little too much if you want to win especially when your PK as gross.

It's unfortunately for all you Canuck Fans as you deserve better. The team this season is good enough to win, but they can stay out of the penalty box enough to do anything positive. Unfortunately, it's too little too late. I can't see Chicago losing 3 in a row with 2 of those games at home.

On a side note, if it was November and not May, Burrows would be getting 2-3 games for cross checking Byfuglin in the head from behind when Bufuglin was down on the ice. Classy guy proves once again who classy he is. Does anyone still have questions as to why I think the guy is dirty bag???

WOW Beans, can this guy get in on the pool late? Assuming to pumble is the same as pummel, he might be on to something? I bet he's picking the Pens to win last years cup too?

Beans, as for the coaching, it seems like they're not getting the message through, what else can they do? They can't go and bench 4 or 5 guys for doing stupid things. All that's been emphasized by the coaching staff and team since this series began was how they were gonna turn the other cheek sotospeak. This has been preached over and over again and once on the ice, bang, a few guys forget the message and have likely cost the team the series. I've defended O'brien all year and what does he do for me? Here, remember this one:
Byfuglien goes down, O'Brien crosschecks him, no call, crosschecks him again, no call, a third one, still no call, fourth, PENALTY! WTF did he think, he'd be able to get 10 or 12 in before a call would be made??? As i'm typing this, Don Cherry's on Coach's Corner saying how brutal the reffing was in the game last night and how they have to let the guys play? I usually agree with Cherry, but the Canucks didn't give the ref's much chance! Sure, a couple calls could be considered questionable but let's face it, the Canucks lost their composure and as you said, with a pk that's not working, they're toast!

I saw the Burrows crosscheck live but didn't see a replay as my beer was empty and i was on the way to the fridge but i didn't think it was in the head? Maybe i missed it, but i thought he got him in the shoulder? If it was as bad as you make it seem, playoffs or not, he'd be suspended. As for your opinion of him being a dirt bag, we need not go there, the guy could save your life and you'd still hate him.

Alex, agreed - these past 2 home games have been the most frustrating to watch, to see them meltdown like this at the worst time is unforgivable. IMO, this is the end of O'Brien in Vancouver, I don't think he'll be signed next year. His defensive upside is overshadowed by the emotional liability. For 1.6M, we can get better.

Beans - I have to agree, I don't see Van winning 3 straight against Chi with two in their town. Of course, after game 1, I didn't see Chi winning 3 straight including two in our hometown. Stranger things have happened - gotta have faith!

As I have tickets to game 6 (should it happen), I also have a vested interest in seeing this series continue. If Vancouver wins game 5 tomorrow night, GM place will be an amazing atmosphere for game 6.

Yup, the bandwagon will be full once again!

nuxfan, did you listen to Luongo's interview after the game? He seemed pretty pissed and while he didn't name names, he did say the coaches have been preaching "turn the other cheek" and "don't retaliate" and "don't take stupid penalties" and that some guys just didn't seem to listen! From everything i've heard from interviews with several Canucks, they were all aware of what they had to avoid, sadly, once the puck was dropped, some seemed to have a proverbial brain fart!

Things def don't look good for Canuck faithful at this point but as you say, you have to have faith! Here's hoping you get a chance to enjoy game 6 live! I will say this much, i'd been combing Craigslist the past week for game 3 and 4 tix and almost paid $500 (for 2) to go to one or the other. Kinda glad i didn't now!

The coach should have enough control of his team that they will follow his direction. The fact that for 3 games now the Canucks have completely lost composure during some of all of the game tells me their coach has no control of the team. One game, sure. 3 in a row???

No team will win the Cup without a solid coach and the discipline to follow his system. So either Vignault is telling them to play that way, which is dumb, or they are not listening to him, which is equally dumb.

As much as I dislike the Canucks, fans like you and Nuxfan don't deserve this. The Canucks are the better team 5 on 5 and they just keep giving it away by being stupid.

As far as Burrows goes, he could save my life and I would be eternally greatful, but that doesn't change the fact that he is a dirtybag on the ice. Shoulder or head is irrelevant. No hockey player with an ounce of class crosschecks from behind when he is down on the ice. It's garbage.

Well, then O'Brien's a classless dirtbag too then because during that incident i described earlier, that of the 4 cross checks, at least 2 and maybe 3 were after Buffy was on the ice! You could prob add in dozens of other players as well, but i get your point, Burrows isn't on your Christmas card list!

As far as the coach goes, you have to keep in mind that he's icing an already thin blueline corps. What more can he do than to preach to them what he wants and what he feels they need to do. If this were the reg season, sure, bench one or two of them but unfortunately in a short series, you don't have that luxury, especially when you consider injuries and inexperience of possible subs. I put this far more on the players than i do the coaching staff.

From the interview with Luongo, i got the feeling that he was absolutely horrified with the way some guys fell apart and handed the Hawks PP's! This tells me that it's def not the kind of tactic the coaches have/had been preaching!

I guess the coaches have to take the blame and are often the "fall guy" when a team doesn't perform, but ultimately, it's up to the players to perform the way they're instructed! From everything i've read/heard, a few Canucks players haven't done so......

In this case, I do blame the coach 100% for the reasons I stated above. The players have their faults as well, but if the coach was directing traffic properly and establishing the expectation of no penalties, Vancouver would be winnint 3-1 right now rather than losing.

Honestly, I do not recall the O'Brien incident. I do recall him beating the crap out of anyone near him, but I don't recall the crosscheck while the guy was down.

I really think this series is over tonight. I can see the Chicago Fans being complete crazy but it being a very close game. Maybe a goal in the final couple of minutes will win it.
