Think the guy just really enjoys playing hockey. He has done it all and is an amazing hockey player and still decides to come back, the same reason scott neidermeyer plays they just can't get enough |

Good for the Wings, and generally good for the NHL. The guy has been an absolute professional on and off the ice and a classy representative of what an NHLer "should be".
This guy could give Joe Sakic a run for classiest player in the past 20 years!
Not a Wings fan, but can't dislike this guy whatsoever! |

+1 - that pretty much sums it up, even though I don't like the Wings, you cannot say anything bad about Lidstrom, he is the consummate professional on/off the ice and still one of the best defencemen in the game even at 40.
Interesting comparison to Sakic, I would agree as well. You don't get too many very-good-but-always-classy players in a lifetime, and both of them are definitely up there. I would add Iginla to that list as well. |

Excellent for the Red Wings. You can't replace a guy like Nicklas Lidstrom within one off-season. Perhaps even, ever. He's a quality, top-tier NHL Defensemen who, will go down in history as a top 10 D-man. Perhaps, top 5 when it is all said and done.
So, it's obvious that sooner rather than later, the Wings will lose a big piece of their franchise, and back-end. Hopefully, guys like Ericsson will learn from Lidstrom, and Kindl coming up, and develop atleast some of his hard work ethic, as it will go a long way.
